Ah the nostalgia. It's great to see how websites have progressed over two decades!
Actually, I spent about 10 years in the CIv4 forums, modding and offering support for mods and coding. I even wrote a couple of guides.
Came for the arguments about which Civs were included in Beyond the Sword, stayed for the arguments about Bush-era foreign policy.
christ i'm old
I joined staff approximately when the Civ V forums were just getting going, and someone asked if I'd be interested in taking that on in addition to Arts & Entertainment. Since my only extensive Civ experience is in I and II, I didn't feel confident in moderating a forum for a game that I don't know anything about (to this day I've never made it through a game of III, though I've tried).Mmmhh... there was a time when I had so little life that I could post in Civ IV, Civ V, moderate these forums, and would still be bored at the end of the day.
that's how I got into OT. Might have been before Civ V, can't remember.
I can't remember the precise details, but I'm pretty sure that I won all the arguments and everyone agreed that I was brave and handsome.Say, I've been meaning to ask, how'd that end up working out?

Pfft, nobody believes those old stories, grandpa.back when there was this place called “the mall,” and it had shops where people went and you could buy stuff in.
August 2001 was really early to be here. #2036!!It was an adequate substitute for a real social life during that time.
I remember there was another site, which shall remain nameless, that was once I think bigger than CFC but a lot of people just seemed really hostile. That was the vibe I got.
I probably came here because I got Civ II in the discount bin at Software Etc. back when there was this place called “the mall,” and it had shops where people went and you could buy stuff in. It was a great big building and you could find almost anything in there, and I used to go to it because people like me then didn’t have fast internet access to get software, so we’d have to buy it at the store. So as I was saying, I tied an onion to my belt, which was the style at the time...

Timmy, my boy, let me explain something to you about numbers: there are times when....oh never mind, figure it out for yourself, it's not like postcount.Pfffft. My user number is way bigger than that. Size does matter.
Say, I've been meaning to ask, how'd that end up working out?
And I vaguely remember some Civ4 guides by Lemon Merchant.
I think I showed up looking for help with Civ3. And no, I don't remember how that worked out.
Wow ! One of the earliest posters !!

I saw what You did there xD![]()
