How did you end up in CFC OT?

Been here long enuf to see like 6 threads like this.

I signed on in 2002 to find people to play Civ 2 multiplayer with.

Ah the nostalgia. It's great to see how websites have progressed over two decades!

Wow ! One of the earliest posters !!
Spoiler :

I saw what You did there xD ;)

Mmmhh... there was a time when I had so little life that I could post in Civ IV, Civ V, moderate these forums, and would still be bored at the end of the day.
that's how I got into OT. Might have been before Civ V, can't remember.

Actually, I spent about 10 years in the CIv4 forums, modding and offering support for mods and coding. I even wrote a couple of guides.

Mmmhhj... do I remember you from there?
(Normally my memory is not that bad, I e.g. remember Ajidica from there, but it's been a lot of people...)

Came for the arguments about which Civs were included in Beyond the Sword, stayed for the arguments about Bush-era foreign policy.

christ i'm old

Say, I've been meaning to ask, how'd that end up working out?

And I vaguely remember some Civ4 guides by Lemon Merchant.

I think I showed up looking for help with Civ3. And no, I don't remember how that worked out.

I joined staff approximately when the Civ V forums were just getting going, and someone asked if I'd be interested in taking that on in addition to Arts & Entertainment. Since my only extensive Civ experience is in I and II, I didn't feel confident in moderating a forum for a game that I don't know anything about (to this day I've never made it through a game of III, though I've tried).

What I recall of the interactions you and I had from that time, some were in the staff forum but most were in Site Feedback. I don't remember that you were very active in OT back then.

I actually have no idea how I found this place, probably just googling civ 4 stuff

The funny thing here is that this is one of those six. You said the exact same thing about three pages back.

It was an adequate substitute for a real social life during that time.

I remember there was another site, which shall remain nameless, that was once I think bigger than CFC but a lot of people just seemed really hostile. That was the vibe I got.

I probably came here because I got Civ II in the discount bin at Software Etc. back when there was this place called “the mall,” and it had shops where people went and you could buy stuff in. It was a great big building and you could find almost anything in there, and I used to go to it because people like me then didn’t have fast internet access to get software, so we’d have to buy it at the store. So as I was saying, I tied an onion to my belt, which was the style at the time...

August 2001 was really early to be here. #2036!!

Pfffft. My user number is way bigger than that. Size does matter.
Timmy, my boy, let me explain something to you about numbers: there are times when....oh never mind, figure it out for yourself, it's not like postcount.

elsewhere on the web , a plastic scale modelling site and Wrymshadow shows his latest batch of Civ lll units . ı have older brother's first computer , 5mb RAM , a whopping 256mb hard disc space to play Civ l and similar , have carried Panzer General over . The link leads to here , ı lurk once or twice . Sometime later acquire lll , enroll , spend mytime mostly in World History and r16 understanding of history or maybe misunderstanding of the said involves a lot of contemporary stuff , ı get advised a couple of times that offtopic is better for rambling nonsense . No , ı didn't kill the WH subforum .

I think that the conclusion from those debates on civ4 civs was that Poland should be in because there were few african civs?

I think I cam here after being ran out of that other civ site which may remain nameless, after making some not-family-friendly considerations there about a very nasty american state secretary. Some things never change, given that about 15 years later I was complaining of another here!
And I wanted to find some old civ2 scenarios. Those I never found.
