How Do You Feel About Gun Rights?

Uhh.. They're machines designed to kill.

Which can be useful. Hence why someone might own a gun for self-defense and not say a plush toy.

Of course you need a good reason, if you're going to allow people to own them.

If you're going to allow people to have them then why does one have to give a reason? Do you seriously believe they will write down "mass murder" or "bank robbery" as a answer on a prerequisite questionnaire?

No one is arguing the right of people to own plush toys.

Very funny, but is that what he was talking about?

I would imagine that "overthrowing the government" would be a legitimate reason as well

Funnier still. Actually, recognizing gun rights allows people with illegitimate goals to aquire guns for this purpose in a legal manner, thereby ultimately undermining both the rule of law and legitimate government.

That was entirely serious, if the government ceases to listen to its people, then by all means the people should be allowed to overthrow it. In any case 'rule of law' and 'legitimate' government are overrated, one mans lawfully constituted and just government is another mans tyrant.

What? No, I mean, society as a whole is going to need to give a reason for allowing people to own the things, which is something you seemed to disagree with in a previous post.

In the case of the U.S., the reason seems to be the 2nd amendment, which can be extrapolated further down to - so that people can form a militia and fight against a tyrannical government.

Which I think is a silly reason to allow people to own guns these days, but at least it's a reason. No country/society is just going to allow the ownership of deadly weapons without some sort of a reason.
