How has CFC changed you?

mmmm

You have good taste in beer.

I learned to not bother arguing if it's not worth it.

It's been a looooooooooong time since I frequented OT, and I opened this thread just for a laugh so it was jarring for me to see this in the second post. This is the place where I learned to say "Okay, you're an idiot and that costs me nothing. Good day." It's so much a part of who I am now I'd forgotten where I learned it.

Of course, IRL I stop after the "Okay" . . .

This has got me salivating.

Tbh, I do like just looking at beer.

Which reminds me, there's a minor beer festival coming to my town on Friday. "Beer on the Beach." I think I'll give it a look, too.

It certainly has flipped my opinion on economic policy, I was a pretty hard-lined conservative only a few years ago (Thanks Cutless and Hygro!). CFC has also helped my confidence in entering debates rather than lurking 100% of the time.

:hatsoff:

and CFC helped drive my interest further into economics.

It gave me something to do back in 2001 and 2002 when the internet was rather different. A few years after that, it gave me somewhere to go when I discovered Civ3, which lead in turn to some good links with people that have persisted through to this day.

It now serves the same role as would a bar in a far away city that I used to frequent. One can wander in and see how things have changed, yet still see a familiar bit of wall and the very occasional familiar face.

I got my use of the :ack: emoticon from you.

I haven't seen that one in years. I got it from being hit over the head with a frying pan by my wife.:ack:

It's a waste of time and energy to post anything longer than a couple lines. The same applies to arguing with people with stupid opinions.

How do you know they have stupid opinions? I'm genuinely confused.
If someone says something dumb, it's a waste of time/energy to contest it, as they will only become more entrenched in the dumb belief. See any feminism thread.

Yes. But how do I, for instance, decide what is a dumb belief? Is it just a belief I don't agree with?

If anything the OT forum has made me more aware of contemporary news stories, and that many people feel very strongly about certain issues that I don't feel so strongly about.

Also I've discovered a love of animated emoticons
:gripe::cowboy::eekdance::lmao::woohoo:

This is exactly the kind of dumb, pointless argument I try to avoid.

I thought you'd say that.

But what exactly is dumb about it?

And who is arguing? I'm certainly not, I don't think. I'm just asking questions.

As for pointlessness, what are you doing on CFC at all? Pointlessness is the name of the game here, isn't it?

Is this you?

Also from you I got my use of  smiley.

I'd like to say the same, but if I was honest I'd say I'm still learning it. Taking it one day at a time y'know?

nope. It hasn't.
