How is your EU3 Game going?

I challenge you all to a Maldives only game. It much unite the whole Indian subcontinent. :)

I would be tempted to play as some oriental power, but it seems quite hard to westernize with them since by the time you own land next to a western nation you are likely to be its next target :)

However i am not sure if another Byzantine game will be fun. I already went both the Alexander and the Justinian way, and Basil's empire was significantly smaller. However i might try a truly Byzantine approach and attempt to mesh with ALL the major other powers, so as to balkanize them :D

Ottoman Empire, 1485

Significant expansion in the span of 19 years. The three states along the southern coast of modern Turkey were my first targets, and were taken at the cost of much infamy, and in the case of Adana, many more troops (but successfully this time, with the help of a true naval blockade). Those conquests were complete by 1480. Then I turned on my old ally Ak Koyunlu. Sibir and Astrakhan allied with them, but to no avail - they're one-provinced now. I'm pleased with my expansion thus far - definitely shaping up to be an empire rather than a small kingdom.

Also significant is the opening of four refineries, in Morea, Crete, Ionia, and Smyrna. I am the most advanced country in infrastructure, at the cost of one level of military advancement relative to most of Europe, which clearly isn't mattering right now. These refineries will pump money into trade research as well as increase my trade efficiency, which will hopefully make me good at trade as well (right now I'm slightly, but not a full level, behind the major powers).

Abroad, the collapse of Burgundy (via an event) to the benefit of France and Austria is the biggest news. Austria beat up on Venice some as well, and somehow managed to get a united empire, if a bit odd-shaped. Eire has also re-emerged, although Portugal does control part of the Emerald Isle and Ulster remains on its own.

Infamy is not yet high, at 14.2, but is drastically increased. Albania would seem a logical target but is allied with Naples (who has 22000 men in Napoli), Siena, Venice, and The Papal States. The last one is the big problem, especially with regards to Apulia. Austria + Hungary and Mamluks + Oman are the other choices in the logical directions. My only core in Georgia is their capital so that doesn't work quite so well unless I want two countries completely surrounded by me.

1806 btw

It's 1649 and I'm fighting a stupid war against Great Britain. They invaded several of my colonies in Labrador & area, which I don't really care about (i consider it a failed experiment), but I can't seem to be able to get Great Britain to agree to anything.. even though I've got all their aegan provinces occupied.

The trick is to be pro-active. In my Ayutthaya game I sail west to meet Castile in Benin, while keeping good relations with them.

Finally bought EU 3 Complete and started as the Byzantine Empire.

My first major war against the Ottoman Empire ended in a strange victory, I captured all of their provinces but was forced to take only 5 of them, nonetheless it was still a total victory over them as Patriot Rebels rose up against the Ottomans and defected to my Empire, giving me the 2 provinces I needed to connect Greece with Thrace as well as relocating the Ottoman capital to Asia Minor. I love those rebels :). The Ottoman Empire now only has 1 province left in Europe and I have yet to infiltrate Asia Minor.

My second major war involved just about every Italian state and their mothers. One by one they realized the error of their ways and sued for white peace. I accepted all of them save for Venice. I needed Crete and needed to build up my navy for the invasion. So I am still currently at war with Venice. After the Italian city states signed peace, 2 of them, Milan and Naples signed a Military Alliance with me.

Check the war status screen. You will see WS% and a number. When it goes down to below 30% or so, the AI will peace out. The AI will not give up anything if it is above 70% usually.

It seems that each patch makes things more difficult for the Byzantines.
Although, again, the entire difficulty is the first three wars, the new patches have:

-Made Epirus guaranteed by Naples. This gets negated since Naples moves on to declare war on them in the first few days of the game. But:

-Candar is not allied with Karaman at the beginning, however it will be allied to it in a few days after the game starts. This means that the Byzantine player has to declare war on Epirus fast, then Candar before it allies with anyone AND land troops in Candar and defeat them before Candar tries to ally, while first having landed the remaining 1K army in Epirus :D

This is not impossible to win, but it is pretty irritating, since in effect it makes the first few years a load-reload fest. ;) Also i noticed for the first time that the ottomans may place a guarantee on Candar. Again i had not seen that before, and if it happens you just have to reload since it is impossible to win against them in the first year of play.
