Howard Stern...Entertainment or Smut?

for those of you who are not familiar w/ "Howeird", he is a NYC disk jockey who has hosted a syndicated morning radio show (broadcasted all over the US) for the last 20 yrs or so. most conservatives deem his material as 'smut' or 'shock-jock' b/c of the sexually explicit content. he often has porn stars strip down during the radio broadcast while he and his cronies yuck it up. it's really quite amusing. however, he's been the target of the neo-conservative FCC who are trying to squeeze him out. this ain't the first time he's butted heads w/ the Feds.

most folks either love him or hate him. what's your take?

as for me, i think he's hilarious and have been a fan of his ever since i was a youngster. his radio show (and his E show) has entertained me for yrs during my morning commute to either work or school. my only criticism is his penchant to get political on his show. i do not want to hear about why john kerry should bepresident. i'd rather formulate me own opinions.

I don't particularly enjoy his show, mostly because I dislike "shock-jock" radio. He doesn't offend me, he simply fails to entertain or enlighten me.

I personally hate his show, but I know people that like it. I see nothing wrong with it, even though I personally think Howard Stern is an idiot driving for attention and will grab at anything that comes his way.

I used to like his E-show because it was the closest thing to porn I could get(back when I had dial-up internet which is horrible for any downloading) now I don't bother to watch. I don't really love or hate him, but I do think the FCC should leave him and all other radio broadcasts alone(especially the bob and tom show which for the most part sucks now) I mean if you don't like it change the station. I don't like the religious channels on TV especially the fire and brimstone sermons that could scare the kiddies, but you don't see me trying to ban their propaganda.

i don't find him funny but don't think he should be taken off the air, especially by a federal establishment.

Entertaining smut. His show is very hit and miss. Sometimes I'll watch the T.V. show.

Why can't he be smut and entertainment at the same time?

I saw his show once when in America (he's totally unknown in Britain) and thought it pretty tame. American TV blurs out even bottoms! Very funny. He's nowhere near as risque as, say, Graham Norton. Graham Norton is on American TV at the moment but it's a very toned down version compared to his shows here. American TV seems, in general, to be a lot more prudish than other countries, for some reason.

Its funny you should say that, I was thinking recently that when he's political, he's the liberal alternative on talk radio. Air America is terrible, painfully unlistenable. He's the only entertaining liberal voice on the radio.
