I have an idea (CFC OT Member of the Year Poll.)

I advocated for something similar to this years ago, and I'm still in favor of the idea of acknowledging good posting.

@Knight-Dragon: I'm one of the moderators of the Arts & Entertainment forum. If Plotinus agrees (being the other moderator), would your comment indicate you wouldn't mind if I was allowed to hold some kind of "good posting" award? (hypothetically, as I don't have any plans currently to do this; my future plans for A&E involve something a bit different).

Would you also include categories for creativeness? Since I know there are artistic people with various mediums (Drawing, Computer Generated, Machenima, etc) that posts there creations on some of the threads there.

If you want to do the creativity, my suggestion would to make it anonymous so people would vote based on the artwork and not the people who made the artwork

Let's not get too far ahead, folks - I said I was speaking hypothetically. However, IF A&E were to hold any sort of forum awards, of course the creative talents of the posters would be included. It's part of the Arts portion of the forum, after all.

@Aimee: I understand what you mean, that there is a risk of a popularity contest and people not voting based on the artistic merits alone. The thing is, people do generally know each others' styles, as regards drawing, computer art, etc. so it would be next to impossible to make it truly anonymous.

But this is something I need to give more thought (and get permission for, since it's not the same thing as my original proposal to the admins).

The best way would not to talk about it here. It is true the subforum have their own little communities, an if left alone can handle such threads (an some can't). Raising aawareness of it here will only pull in people from the wrong areas. Most people know of the gaggle of chatters who like to move en mass and ruin such things...

Speaking just an any other forum goer... Hmm... The only thing I could think of would be if the staff allowed for Mods only to give rep points. They would not be publicly displayed or for public discussion. Then, at the end of the year, we could acknowledge worthy posters. Probably more trouble than its worth.

I'm not crazy about Poster of the Year, but we've discussed having some sort of general OT yearly awards, and I strongly support it. People respond to incentives, and having a sort of public attaboy will be more effective towards building better threads than playing cosntant wackamole with infractions.

Bird and I talked about this a few years ago I think, and if you wanted a neutral person to help, I'd be happy to do it.

Doesn't take long to be corrupted by the benefits of appointed station, does it?

How quickly they forget... It was you, Birdjaguar, and I who had a marathon PM session going, in which we discussed a doable way to hold an awards vote/ceremony (this was before Birdjaguar became a moderator)... which was subsequently vetoed by the admins.

Since I know what we said via PM (I still have them in archive) and what was decided in the staff forum, I really can't see a way to satisfy both sides of the issue to make this work. :(

I still believe in the "you won't know until you try" philosophy, though.

Care to share the reasons why it was vetoed by the admins (assuming they are more specific than the objections put forth in this thread)?

The reasons are no different from those already posted here and in other threads on the issue.

I think post/thread of the year in categories would be good fun.

If they existed a few years ago Id think my "listerine" thread would win an award just for the hilarity

There should be a punning awards!

Best thread title!

I liked my "Balls dropped?" thread title, when Ed Balls failed to be appointed Shadow Chancellor.

The reasons are no different from those already posted here and in other threads on the issue.

Given that one of those reasons was that 'the moderator team has no energy or motivation left to do this', and given that yourself and Birdjaguar and now both moderators, would it be uncalled for to revisit the issue in detail?

I think the more essential dislike of elitism and anything that promotes it is the biggest and immovable roadblock to these plans...
