Er.... tricky question. Very tricky.

Definitely the real mermaid.

On the other hand, some of my best friends are fish.

Poor things. Neither can handle sharks.

Presumably, regular mermaids are faster than reverse mermaids and might be able to outrun a shark.

I doubt it. Sharks are fast, and the female human upper body just isn't as streamlined as a fish. Plus they might have to surface for air pretty often.

Outrun! Ha!

I'm glad somebody caught that, given how intentional it was.

So they stay near the surface. Better off than a fish torso with slow human legs and no appreciable propulsion whatsoever.

Besides the mermaid could punch the shark. Right in its effing face. Or use weapons. The fish torso can't do that.

On land, my money's on the reverse mermaid over the shark, any day. And on water, she could operate a speed boat pretty well. Though probably her navigation skills might be a bit haphazard.

Normal mermaid. Far more that is attractive, far less that is unattractive. In addition, a reverse mermaid would be useless; a regular mermaid would have the swimming power of a fish, and be able to leave the water, albeit with great difficulty. A reverse mermaid would have to stay completely in the water forever, but would be a comparatively poor swimmer, with those human legs and feet.

Ah yes, the infamous land shark. Can't be too careful with those guys around.

I agree with Cheezy's analysis too.

Sorry folks:
US government statement

In July 2012, the National Ocean Service (a branch of National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) stated that "no evidence of aquatic humanoids has ever been found".[50] The statement was a response to public inquiries following Mermaids: The Body Found, a docufiction television film which aired in May 2012 on Animal Planet and which some had mistaken for a factual documentary

I call conspiracy.

They would deny it wouldn't they? On account of the military possibilities. (Amongst other things.)

I will add that having human brain is also an advantage...

I would want them both to be real.

If they are both real then there is the possibility of a threesome with a mermaid and a reverse mermaid, which might be not so weird and even kind of hot. All you do is cover up the fish parts with towels and line up the bodies. and if that doesn't turn you on enough, all you do is think "hey! I'm in a threesome!" Win-win

Of course the feasibility of that might be in question since who is going to agree to you covering up their fish parts with a towel during intercourse?
