Illegal immigration supported by the media

This is really offensive to me. As an American and a Russian (legal resident, naturalized citizen), I find this whole issue offensive to me. I find it offensive that Mexicans in California do not have to pay out of state fees to attend colleges (and AMERICAN citizens do) even though they aren't even citizens. I find it offensive that the media uses terms like "undocumented workers" instead of the correct illegal immigrants. I find it offensive, especially, that people say immigrants without adding the illegal prefix - because I am an immigrant - they are not. They are not even Americans and even though I can tolerate them being here, they have no rights to demand the US government to give them rights. It's a privledge for them to be even here without being deported - not a right. I don't believe that illegal immigrants deserve the rights that I cherish as an American. My opinion is shared by most of the country.

But go turn on CNN and you'll find almost the opposite. Headlines are often just "immigrant rally" or "undocumented workers", and are being painted as some sort of Civil Rights movement. The liberal media has again glorified something very wrong and offensive. Why is this happening? Can someone explain it to me? I can't even fathom their rationale.

Just watch fox news and you will see they dont support illegal aliens.

I'm not surprized since you're from Oregon.

I watch CNN, FOX, and my local news. FOX more or less has disappointed me by also somewhat supporting the illegals.

Your mixing up supporting with not taking a vocal opinion

Illegal immigrants cannot attend California state universities. Legal California residents, who may or may not be citizens, pay resident fees for college. Non-residents, regardless of citizenship, pay out of state fees.

Sorry, but your complaint has nothing to do with illegal residents.

The media is a mouthpiece of the U.S. government and the corporations, both of which do not want to see the steady flow of cheap labor and political support dry up any time soon. The media would not be such a problem in this country if the general population were not made up of such gullible idiots who believe whatever pops up on the tube. The media grants zero airtime to anyone who truly opposes this illegal alien quagmire.

Have you seen the statistics on views regarding [illegal] immigration based upon political party? The views are shaped by many factors, often personal experience. And a lot of people are also being pragmatic about the situation.

I would say that many news organizations have become more critical of illegal immigration when compared to the past few years. Check out Lou Dobbs and his segment, "Broken Borders." But what matters in the end is actual government action aimed at preventing more illegal immigration.

If you don't mind my asking, but are you originally from New Zealand or Russia? I thought I remembered reading a post stating that you used to live in New Zealand.

He's right, most of the country doesn't share your opinion.

Cause the media is a bunch of overpaid news anchors and reporters and they "need" the illegal immigrants to tend to their household needs such as landscaping, construction, masonry, and other projects that they employ illegals for. Of course they're not going to condemn illegal immigration.

Reporters aren't overpaid....reporters at most newspapers (other than the big ones), make almost no money. Ron Burgundy might have a mexican to mow his lawn, but not most of the "media"

it's all a bunch of bull. of course the media supports illegal aliens, they hate america and will do anything to turn it into a socialist hole like mexico. yes even fox news hates us.

politicans care more about people who can't vote than they do about actual voters & citizens.

At lunch I saw a great commentary on Bill O'Reilly that basically stated my view in simple turns: "Build a wall, but have a really big gate." I'd like to see us stop illegals and close this avenue to terrorists, but make it easier for hard workers to get here by having a guest worker program that is huge. I've seen similar commentaries on other news channels.

The free market requires freedom of movement of labour as well as goods and capital. It is central to capitalism that workers are allowed to move around.

Is Mexico really less capitalist than the USA I thought you Americans had better welfare and state education etc?

Could it be that Mexicans are moving from a highly competitive capitalist country to a MORE socialist country to their North?

Does anyone know enough about Mexico to answer this question?

Mexico, like the US, does not have open borders. They arrest and deport illegal immigrants from its poverty stricken southern neighbor.

And yes. America has vastley better social programs and services but that is just because Mexican government is a corrupt rotten structure who can't afford to, or more accurately WILL NOT, support its people. It has nothing to do with who is more capitalist than the other. Its corruption.

When I go to Shanghai again (soon), I'll see thousands of Americans. They went there to take advantage of the economic opportunities in one of the most exciting cities on Earth.

Are your really arguing that they shouldn't be allowed to go there? That seems to be the implication of closing borders.... :mischief:

PS My friend Leesa tells me that fights between Brits + others and Americans in the International bars in Shanghai are getting more common and more violent. Should be fun! :D

 Are we not talking about illegal immigration into the US? What does China have to do with anything?

We are not discussing closing the border or stopping all travel into the US.

Do you think the Americans you see in China come and go as they please with out any consent or documentation from the PRC government?

Who are you or me to tell the Chinese that they have to let these thousands Americans into their country? But honestly, I have no plans on immigrating to China, legally or illegally so your "analogy" means squat to me.
