Imperium Offtopicum 3: the quest for Imperium Offtopicum 2

I'd like to start out with what I had last time.

Israel, Jordan, Palestine, Gaza, Lebanon, Iraq, Syria, Egypt.

I'll be the Israeli Republic (again). I'll copy and paste my info from the last thread later.

I present you the CEU:

21drlnp.png

(Orange) Let's try to use this map!

Capital: Poznan

Languages and Culture Main languages are German and Polish. Officially: German, Polish, Slovak, Czech, Hungarian, Romanian, Latvian, Lithuanian. The swathes of Belarus and Ukraine all speak Polish.

Culturally Central European.

Development rating: Modern First World.

Economy and Industry: Mostly a modern Service based economy with big industrial and a fair agriculture industries.

Political setup: Election-based. Candidates for presidents from each party are chosen from each province, who than run with each other for President of the CEU.

Foreign policy: We are with the good guys. :

Army: Strong, developed and modern army. 150k active at any time, but if war comes, we can guarantee you will be facing a large large o large army.

Air force: Strong and Modern Air Force as well.

Navy: Strong and Modern fleet. Highly capable and among the world's best.

I am getting back into this game! :)

Byzantine Empire, Alliance?

edit: I see someone wants Romania, they can have it all(including Moldova and Budjak), but under the condition that they are an allied state of the CEU.

Welcome aboard:goodjob:, I'll add you both to the next map

Sorry, I meant Nepal. Anyway, I claim those two, Nepal, and Madagascar, so I can be FIRST!!!!1111 in Africa.

That's fine but this counts as your secondary picks, I'll add your claims on the next map:)

I'm fine co-administering this with you. That way we can blunder around about it together!!! :goodjob:

Also, as long as everyone is fine with it, I'm going to go ahead and say the U.N. building is in San Francisco as everyone seemed to be fine with it before.

@Mad: I can build you an embassy right in the heart of San Francisco's vibrant Chinatown, if you'd like!

Also, I don't want Alaska, it is not in my interests.
This my land:

21drlnp-1.png

(Navy Blue)

Capital: San Francisco

Languages and Culture: English is the official language, however many things are done multilingually due to the multiplicity of cultures living within the borders. (Hispanic, Chinese, Japanese, Thai, Native American, etc.)

Development rating: Modern First World.

Economy and Industry: Massive technology industry. Pacifistan boasts the greatest hi-tech innovators and producers in the world. It is estimated that approxomately 70% of all technology in the world is in some way derived from Pacifistan. The tech industry is clearly the largest part of Pacifistan's economy. The other notable industries in Pacifistan are Fishing, especially the lucrative crab fishing along the Aleutian Islands and along Alaska's southern coast, as well as it's vibrant coffee companies. Estimated Nominal GDP is around 2.7 Trillion dollars.

Political setup: Representative democracy similar to the US. President is elected directly rather than through an Electoral College

Foreign policy: Neutrality.

Army: Small, but very well developed and highly trained. Composed largely of Marines.

Air force: Relatively strong for it's size. Boasts the latest in air technology, but mainly short ranged, not intended for offensive attacks.

Navy: Rather substantial, and powerful. The majority of Pacifistan's military spending goes into the maintenance of its navy. The navy is Pacifistan's main deterrent force. It is currently used as a police force against pirates, but is perfectly capable of going toe to toe with even the strongest and largest of navies should her neutrality be compromised.

Total Military Spending: about 5%

OK there's a problem. the Byzantine Republic is definitely more advanced and has a much bigger hi tech industry as you do. you cannot produce 70% of the worlds high tech devices, not with that thin strip of land. i don't even think the USA is capable of this. Byzantium isn't either. Byzantium was the innovators and they still are. (death projector Siege engine for one).

your mountainous terrain would make ti hard to be the best of the best anyway. in most cases the innovator had a large skilled population and a large industry.

i have no problem with the rest.

Sorry for the double post, but this is the official map, from what I can surmise.

Actually, this is (kinda sorta not really) based in reality. The silicon valley (where I come from) is one of the biggest high tech producers in the world. It's the high tech hub of the world, being home to Apple, AMD, Intel, etc. I also own Washington, which is home to Microsoft. 70% may be a little high, but this has been my thing from thread 1. We are the electronic leaders of the world.

Also, I didn't say we produce all electronics, I said 70% of electronics in the world derive in some way or another from Pacifistan (say, for example your cell phone may have a processor developed in Pacifistan, but the rest of it is produced in Byzantium).

Finally, we aren't all mountains. California is a land of hills and valleys. Our industries obviously lie in the valleys.

..well i cant dispute that. in my timeline those companies were located in Constantinople. they still are.

...so now there is apparently two copies of every major company. suggestions?

fair enough for me.

I call bs. I'm fine with you having an irrationally high GDP. I'm even fine with you somehow having an army, navy, and air force each anywhere from 3-20x the size of america's today, but you can't just say "sorry it's an alternate timeline that I just made up without your consent so haha." That is not cool. Like I said, technology is the one thing my nation has going for it, so don't you dare arbitrarily take it away in an idiotic attempt to ruin the game before it even gets going.

i made this timeline months ago...do not worry we aren't looking to take away your hi technology base. in fact we encourage your technology industry on the grounds that its good to have more than one nation with a massive technology industry. even though mine is clearly larger. you are more specialized, mine is mostly general.

im still open to merging the two identical companies and having their headquarters in pacifistan. or constantinople. or both. whichever you want.

by the way i cant have the GDP too low. 13 trillion is the barest minimum i can have for my HDI.

1. Since when did we agree to your AH being the basis for the entire geopolitics of this game?
2. This is what I'm talking about, you have great hi-tech, but I'm better. You do this with everything. You have a great military, but I'm better. Cut with the inferiority complex and come down to our level, then we'll talk.
3. 13 Trillion is 4 times my GDP, how can you say that's the bare minimum? Refer to 2.

if you dont like my time line don't use it. we will use it. keep your companies and and i will use mine. its free market.

i have a real issue with being inferior. I do not like it.. it makes me feel like i'm nothing. a burden. a waste.

3. 13 Trillion is 4 times my GDP, how can you say that's the bare minimum? Refer to 2.

i tried to make it lower, but i cant seem to find a right mix. if i have it too low i have a poverty (the homeless uneducated kind) issue, if i have it too high you complain.

the lowest per capita i can really use is 40,000 per capita. that is 9.8 trillion.

I'm fine with that, but don't go claiming Apple, Microsoft, AMD, and Intel are headquartered in Constantinople. We are the innovators in the High-Tech world. I'm fine with you being the largest manufacturers.

I really don't care. This is the type of game where you cannot be the best in absolutely everything. It ruins the game. Either get over yourself or get out.

Every nation has poverty. To claim your nation has no poverty is as irrational as claiming you have an army of 100 million.

You know, you could always, lessen your population count.

Look at world GDPs right now. All of the EU is 18 million. I repeat, All of the EU. US is about 14 trillion. The next afterwards is Japan at 4, I repeat, 4 trillion.

a good compromise. good enough.

cant without upsetting every calculation.

the Byzantine Republic is also 20 years ahead of the rest of the world. i posted this on the first page and no one objected. my GDP will be 9 trillion. fair or not?

i am aware that every nation has poverty, and we took steps to lessen it. to eliminate it entirely we'd have to go communist.

and my army has 8 million total. only one million active.

Are Math's claims to Romania instantly enabled? I'm not sure...

Yes like I said "Everybody is entitled to make a second set of claims", so yes Math gets Romania, You get Hawaii, I get Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan(which are missing) and that part of Russia I can't remember at the moment, and Double A got his parts that are already on the map.

No one knows exactly what year this is supposed to take place in, and you only said technology was 2030 era (no one knows what that means either). I object to you being 20 years ahead of everyone else. Once again, that unbalances the game and ruins it. We call this powergaming. 9 trillion I guess is fair enough, for now.

And your army size still seems rather large to me. I'm sure we can hammer this stuff out in another thread though (or this one).

@my fellow administrator: I think the best way to avoid further powergaming is to actually lay out some kind of order to this game, so when are we going to do this?

i consider the year to be 2010. if you object ill gladly take away the fact that im 20 years ahead. (it really doesn't make a difference anyway).

i can reduce my army size, but i seriously risk the safety of Byzantium in doing so.

The era this game is set is timeless but mostly modern, and I was thinking that the combat system should be based off of Risk, I'm still not sure how economy can fit in to this. What do you think?

Who are you defending against exactly, and wouldn't your best defence be to make sure your friendly with all the bigwigs and not ticking them off? I'm just saying is all

i am friendly with Israel and Poland. but based on the map, i still ahve a lot of places to be attacked from. i prefer to not be spread thinly, in case some other country attacks.

Please excuse me while I nick Thorvald's template.

The Kingdom of Great Britain

Capital: London

Development rating:
First World.

Economic style:
Socialist.

Economy and Industry: Heavily industrialised with a good industrial base. This includes the most comprehensive rail transport system in the world (during the fifties, Beeching was...put out of ze vay.). There is a large amount of arnaments factories in North-Eastern England. Since the 1980s, the government has sanctioned development of computers, which led to Britain being one of the leaders in IT technology.

Political setup: British Parliamentry system devided between the Conservatives, Labour and Liberal parties. Currently, the Liberals are in office.

Social policy: Universal Sufferige, Civil Rights Acts in place.

Foreign policy: The preservation of the status quo in Europe. This means that Britain will always support the weaker side in a conflict or crisis, with is usually (but not always) the defending side.

Abroad, Britain wishes to establish a trading empire.

Army: To paraphrase Napoleon, 'The British Infantryman is the best in the world - it is good for France that there are so few'. The British Army is by no means massive but is extremely well-trained and equipped, utilizing advanced military technologies.

Air force: Most of the Air Force is concentrated on the Fleet Air Arm, subservant to the Navy. The ones that aren't are used primarily to defend the British Isles from attack. Again, they are well equipped, but not numerous.

Navy: Largest in the world. The British often say that her army is a projectile to be fired from her navy, and the Royal Navy maintains eleven carriers, twenty-six modernized battleships and many, many smaller vessels.
