That flag sure looks as if it has been used for love :)

I am your inspiration
I am your shining sun
Forgot most of the lyrics
About time I be gone

That flag reminds me that we have three classes left of our US History course and we are talking about Thomas Paine's Common Sense next week.

Uns're Fahne flattert uns voran.
In die Zukunft ziehen wir Mann für Mann
Wir marschieren für Hitler
Durch Nacht und durch Not
Mit der Fahne der Jugend
Für Freiheit und Brot.
Uns're Fahne flattert uns voran,
Uns're Fahne ist die neue Zeit.
Und die Fahne führt uns in die Ewigkeit!
Ja die Fahne ist mehr als der Tod!

Our flag is fluttering in the front. In the future we march man for man. We march for Germany by night and by necessity, with the flag of the youth for freedom and bread. Our flag is fluttering in the front. Our flag is the new age. And the flag will lead us into eternity! Yes, the flag is more than death!

I don't trust flags much, these days.

Well, you could always use a Pipboy avatar plus a boast almost no one will recognize.

It's the Vault Boy, and yes, 1st Recon is cool.:p

I have a task for you guys.

Try to guess where (region the world) and when (approximately) did the guy from my new avatar live.

Poland.

On a more serios note, I'm guessing somewhere during ancient Egypt, Middle Kingdom onward until the Greek conquest, depicting a Libyan or Bedouin.

I'd wager a lot of historical art is more meme-worthy than people realize.

Well, if you add iin some speech buhbles, it certainly could become a meme. There's even a photoplasty on Cracked that does that

Clearly, 20th century Poland. That's Lech Wałęsa.
Very accurate translation !!! :D

Well spotted. I noticed it too. And I wondered why they did that.

Maybe it's because he, like general de Gaulle did with France, identified himself with Germany.

Or maybe they thought no one would notice and they were trying to put distance between themselves, as former Hitler Youth members (of which there were a very great many), and Hitler himself.

Borachio - 20th century but AD, or BC ???

Cybrxkhan - no, he is not Libyan, not North African. But you are very close when it comes to time period.

====================

Well, OK - Bedouins were traveling to that region.

So he could possibly be a Bedouin (or a Proto-Bedouin). And you guessed the time right - ca. 1780 BC (in Egypt there was Middle Kingdom).

So congratulations Cybrxkhan, you won!

But the painting is from the ancient Near East, in present-day Syria, Mari (Tell Hariri), from the palace of king Shamshi-Adad I (or his son Yasmah-Adad):
