Zaitsev hadn't even enlisted, iirc, when Häyhä was active. Häyhä had MORE of a home field advantage and he used iron sights, not a scope because the glare would give him away. He died in combat.

Zaitsev was just as unfamiliar with his surroundings as Koenig, his German counterpart.

Zaitsev was also a sniper trainer.

I suppose the home field advantage made Häyhä's job much easier. I'd saying using iron sights adds difficulty though.

Hey, a Hero of the Soviet Union makes for a pretty nice avatar. If you decide to change in the future, I suggest Yuri Gagarin and his charming smile. Bonus points for being a hero to all humanity and not just the Russians.
