IOT Organisational and Discussion Thread

I'd draw it as one big province and just claim all of it :p

Can I just ask a question? I've not had a thread locked on me before, should I hold out hope it gets unlocked or just consider it dead and move on?

Cami says "closed for review", so presumably it may be reopened or it may not. I'm not sure how enthusiastic the players are for continuing the game though.

Ninja, never reveal someone's private roleclaim to you in public. If you think they're town, then the reasons for not doing so should be obvious. If you think they're scum, chances are they're not, and instead of explicitly revealing their claim, say "their roleclaim is fishy/suspicious/whatever." That way, suspicion is still cast on them, and if they're town the mafia don't know their role.

From what you said, I'm guessing you're a town scout, SamSniped is a town soldier, and Omega is some sort of town vigilante demoman (his response all but confirms it). Experienced players such as BL extract roleclaims from inexperienced players all the time, it's like taking candy from a baby for them. Most of the time, the inexperienced player is town -- new players tend to not be very skilled at faking roleclaims.

Now the mafia won't target SamSniped, because they know he has a temporary bulletproof ability, and you just cast a bunch of suspicion on him and made him a lynch candidate. The proper move would have been to try and trick the mafia into wasting a nightkill on Sam when he's invincible; instead, you have now effectively rendered his ability useless. And now the mafia know the identity of a likely vigilante. Congratulations.

I seriously urge the town to vote for Takhisis, for reasons I'll keep to myself.

Great job Christos. You got IOT9 closed.

It was ALL of you, not just Christos.

Sure. Cause I was the one posting the F word. And trolling.

I had barely posted on that thread. And now look whats happened.

Cut the IOT9 chatter please.

Moderator Action: When you don't play nice we usually get wind of things and now IOT is active on our radar. Please try and keep things civil. I see that Cami unlocked the thread.

Coming to Civfanatics in early June...

Sequel to the most unrealised IOT ever...

From the mind of Robert Can't:

MIOT II - The Revenge of Malthus
What IOT: Resource wars should have been.

I am happy to announce that i will be making a grand return to the IOT GM scene this June with by far the most complicated IOT ever... If you thought MIOT was over complicated, If you find I&B hard to understand, if all you want is a single pretty map and if you hate realisticness then this is not the IOT for you.

The rule set will encompass everything: From internal politics through sustainable use of resources all the way to Urbanisation.

Like MIOT before it, Revenge of Malthus will have players starting as a group of people, a nomadic tribe. As the game continues the tribes will grow into communities and empires as they advance through the demographic transition model; each stage unlocking new bonuses and problems for the nation.

The Demographic Transition Model

As with the first MIOT there will also be a focus on providing resources for your nation, however rather than the crude random factor of the original Revenge of Malthus will have a focus on the necessary resources in different areas and the extraction and use of these resources. This will bring in factors such as global distribution of resources, peak oil, sustainability and subsistence/commercial agriculture.

The Hubbert Curve

There will be warfare. Armies will be raised; recruited through military draft, levied by feudal lords or a host of other options. However like in MIOT war will not be quite as complicated as other aspects of the game to move the focus away from that part of the game.

Resource wars are practically a given

And as is threatened by the title... Malthus will be watching you.

Iä! Iä!

Genius! There is actually an equation to calculate the growth rate of people in a given environment...

Ah, I'm looking forward to this IOT. Although I must say that Son's project with nomads and etc. was rather seductive, and apparently simple.

I personally think it would be better with tribes of humans but if you want to do this whole spore thing then at least you have a good chance of being better than the real game :p

I would personally prefer humans but meh.

Well I haven't fully decided if I'm going to do humans or not...

Due to popular opinion I may have to swing that way.

Given that it's Malthus' Revenge... humans would do great.

The humans thing would make more sense I feel, but on the other side if you go with species I get to be Cats species from red dwarf.
