ITNES I - An Epoch of Change

Azale? Can you please contact your allies and find out about the nation's history and past/current agreement before doing that? How would you feel if you were drawn into a war by an NPC that suddenly gets a player and ditch you :p

So change your diplo! I don't know if we're having peace yet. Wait for the spotlight to be posted first at the very least :p

edit: while you're at it go on AIM so we can talk

Yeah that's how I like it - can you feel the spirit? Rabooom! Joining a at-war-npc, completely changing its diplomacy, disregarding its alliances ;).

Crinan was putting the last touches on the second, more formal, version of his latest communique, the one that was going to the Dumnorix himself, when his chief general, Cousantin, walked in. He looked up only briefly at the general, then returned to his writing.

"What shall we do now, my lord?" Cousantin asked.

"What shall we do? We shall fight, of course. Do you see any other action open to us?" Crinan replied, still distracted.

"Of course. May I see what it is you write, lord?"

This phrase snapped Crinan to attention. "NO!" he shouted, his eyes shining with a fierceness that he rarely displayed. The general, immediately intimidated, left the room posthaste.

Crinan calmed slightly, finally finished writing, and he held his work up to the soft candlelight to review what he had written.

Dumnorix Caethaldius,

When I was but a young man--no more than fifteen--my father died, and I was thrust into the kingship. You were very supportive then, writing often, giving me tips, helping me learn the ropes of my new and most demanding job. But you had other motives. When you suggested an alliance of all the Solists, I jumped at the chance. I desperately wanted you and your noble people on my side.

Then the Nortugese and Nordrikians attacked. I was despairing, for our alliance had caused my people such great grief. Nonetheless, you were confident. You encouraged us to be bold and cooperate; your plans were good, and we achieved victory. We had captured a good part of Hibernia, and the sea was ours.

Though I too rejoiced in our victory, I saw that we still had many problems. The Nortugese had the wherewithal to raise a formidable army quickly, and proper Nortugese/Nordrikian cooperation would have ended our naval supremacy. And of course, the Nordrikian horde was overrunning my country.

Thus, I put forth a plan. In that plan, we would abandon our Hibernian folly and concentrate on the as-yet unweakened Nordrike. Our Hibernian force, with mine and the Iceni's troops, could easily have driven Nordrike back, saving many of Sol's sons from subjugation. We would continue our ambitious naval program, ensuring that our temporary advantage would become permanent.

But no, you had visions, visions of a grand Solist empire spanning the whole of the great ocean. The visions, in short, of a madman. In your delusions of grandeur, you completely ignored the suffering of Sol's children in my realm. "Look to your own defenses," you said, damning Caledonian's solists to subjugation and persecution. You gave us no help, and we fell.

Here I am now, a broken man, a king with no kingdom and precious few people. And all because of your foolishness, your greed, and your callous disregard for Sol's children. Your reign has seen the demise of Solism, and will likely see its ultimate defeat. And it is almost solely your fault.

Crinan mac Mael Coluim, King of the Caledonians

Having finished, he sealed both the letters and called in the messenger. "This one," holding up the one in his left hand, on the nicest parchment available, "goes straight to the Dumnorix himself. This one," holding up the other, "you may give to whomever you please. I care not." With a nod, the messenger took the letters and left.

Crinan picked up the dagger by his side, and he began to finger it. It was very well made, the best he'd ever seen; it would do. He began to think of his ancestors, driven out of Ulaid by the very same Nortugese that had attacked him ten years ago. They fled across the sea, in terror, hoping to find something, somewhere, to settle down. Fortune smiled upon them, and they found Caledonia, his homeland. He, however, had nowhere to flee; the earth had its fill, and anyway, he had no means to get away from the rutheless blockade. For his people, it would end here.

His attention turned to his seal, that of the MacNess clan, still coated with bright red wax. He had seen it, indeed used it, so many times that he often overlooked its significance. He picked up, turning it over and over in his hands a few times, and then gravely, symbolically, tossed it into the fire. He then gripped the dagger, and prepared himself.

Crinan mac Mael Coluim, King of Caledonia, last ruler of the MacNess clan, was twenty-eight years old.

So, Caledonia's open. Any takers? :p

that was a much better plan shortguy, I actually thought you would move your whole Hibernian army into Caledonia, thats why I sent most of my fleet round Caledonia hoping they would get lucky and stop the landing if it occured. I knew my army would be overwhelmed if that happened.

It would seem that the free, enlightened peoples of the Bimarine Basin are now under attack from all sides. Assaults have come from east and west alike, and our very existence seems threatened. It has been only our hesitation to cooperate that weakens our alliances. Therefore, we must act now in order to maintain a free state of life.

Therefore, we propose that the Mediterranean Trading League be expanded into a full alliance, both defensive and offensive, between our four nations. We propose that it be called the Alliance of Free Mediterranean Peoples. This alliance calls for the creation of a joint naval command among member nation fleets in wartime, and military cooperation on all fronts deemed necessary. For the time being, we propose that this alliance be linked with the Pact of Invictus, which includes Iceni and Cymru as auxiliary members.

We must forge such an alliance now, while there is still time.

Maybe the best idea ever ;) we heartily accept.

@ThomAnder: how would you feel if an NPC ally did it to you? :p

They never told me that! :D

OOC: Blind leading the blind...

to Nordike and Dawn kingdoms:
Our victories number more than our enemy's ones. We now have the upper hand and the resources to use it. Let us finish this war quickly for all our people grow weary of wars. Now that Hibernia is free it is time to bring the war to their lands. Caledonia have already fallen to the might of Nordike, and soon Iceni and Cymru will as well. Our alliance is strong, and victory shall soon be ours.
We congerelate Nordike on their magnificent war upon Caledonia.
We thank the Dawn Kingdoms for their aid in retrieving Hibernia from the harsh rule of those who call themselves the light. If we are darkness than it seems darkness is the side of good, side of peace and the side that will have it's victory soon enough...
OOC:
AHEM! It was we that funded this mission *grumbles about the only people you thanked not paying logistics, and me reaching into my strong treasury to fund it* and liberated the entirety of the Shannon.

And Das, good update, but how were my ships inferior. I built them with Mid Medival Naval Tech. I freshly built them! They should have been MORE advanced than the barbaric Solists! And I should still have 20 ships stationed on the Mouth of the Mississippi

Reading parts of the update reminds me of the favourtism given to certain people and why I chose not to be part of it anymore.

Wha? DO you mean a favouritism from geographic location, nation history and population? because that exists in the real world too ;), or do you mean some given to players? Without reading the orders on both sides of things I hardly see how you can call it such...

We are willing to speak but about what?

We would like to discuss the purchase of a narrow strip of coastline to unite our two colonies. Also, we wish to also possibly draw up some sort of agreement so our expansion does not cause tension or conflict.

Nice Update das!

Oh shut up, I checked my nation description and apparently I only joined in the war to gain the lands the Daco-Illyrians are offering. :p

Sooo...what exactly are you accusing me of? I play for my nation, not for any alliance, especially since Cernorusia is not really part of one. I don't see anything unrealistic about just being in this war to gain what it was started for.

*ahem* madagaskar revolution *ahem* ;) (not in this update though.. dont want to point out events in this update to not sound like I'm whining all the time, but lets just say I am EAGERLY waiting for the spotlight :D)

From Dacoillyria
To Cernorussia:
So we have peace? :)

To the Kingdom of Nortugal
From the Kingdom of the Dawn Land

We agree with your proposal, the tide has turned in our favor and the time is now to destroy our common enemies. On a different note, we ask that from this point forward that when you refer to ourselves, the Algonquian Confedration, and the United Adena that you call us by our alliance, the League of Three Circles. It is very confusing for those who read quickly when you refer to us as the "Kingdoms of the Dawn." But that is beside the point, for now is a time of rejoicing! Hibernia is free and the Nortuguese released of their shackles!

OCC: Absolutely no f***ing way with this technology level - you need explosives and machines and far superior materials technology. And before you mention, no, this nothing like the Sile canal, it is an enormously greater technical and geological challenge far beyond anyones means at this time.

I think there is a misunderstannding. My orders were:
...to build to ports (and refit facilities) on our northern border and connect them with good roads and ship infrastructure to make crossing the isthmus safe and secure. See map. We will provide a safe and quick route for trade goods to go between the Atlantic and Pacific oceans.
The idea was to have ports at either end of a combination of road and water transport across the isthmus in modern Nicaragua, not build a canal. Lake Nicaragua and the rivers flowing out of it were the basis for the water borne transport and roads would be build to bring goods to the lake and follow the rivers as they flowed east.
