Hello my fellow humans! Welcome to Valland, a prosperous island nation of five million, situated in the North Atlantic Ocean. It's a pleasant country, thriving off of its abundant natural riches. The seas are replete with fish, the mountains are a trove of valuable minerals, and the geothermal heat of the earth itself provides nearly unlimited cheap electricity to the island. Education levels are high, unemployment is low, and Valland boasts one of the world's highest standards of living, and shows no sign of changing at any point in the foreseeable future.
Greetings, Kaiju! Welcome to Valland, an island which contains lots of delicious little morsels who have built a lot of big things that are fun to stomp on and destroy. You've all got our reasons for being here- some of you may be servants of alien civilizations of tremendous power. Others could be rogue forces of nature, following no greater agenda beyond their own. Some of you might even be... *sigh* I don't know, defenders of the land or something ridiculous like that.
Regardless of your aims and origins, however, you all hold much in common:
You are humongous, with some Kaiju topping 100 meters or more in height, and exceeding 100 000 tons in weight.
Your paths are all converging on Valland, and the humans have no idea whatsoever.
So, welcome to Valland! Take a look around! And please do not crush me beneath your mighty feet/claws/tentacles! No! Please! No! AAAUUGH!

Humans
You can play as a single human, or a group of humans, it's simple as that. To join as a human, simply fill out this simple template:
Name: Your character name.
Description: Where you're from, your background, any particular talents, and so on.
Kaiju
You are a single Kaiju, a massive being capable of tremendous destruction. If you want to be a giant monster, stomp all over an unsuspecting nation, and do all other things of the sort, simply fill out the template below:
Name: Your Kaiju's name. If it has no name, I'll be happy to name it for you.
Description: Your appearance, any interesting or relevant facts that you'd like to share, and any capabilities that you may have.
Also, if you wish to create a Kaiju, it would also be advisable to contact me by PM, or on #nes, so that I can brief you on some relevant information about the beasties in this world.
Setting
The world of this NES is culturally very similar to our own, although the technology in certain areas is more advanced, generally to allow for rule of cool things such as giant combat machines and anti-Kaiju weaponry. The world outside of Valland is very similar to our own, although it is largely outside of the focus of this NES, at least for now.
Valland itself is, as mentioned, a large island in the North Atlantic. It is roughly 600 kilometers across, and located on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, south of Iceland and directly in between Great Britain and Newfoundland. Its industries are dominated by fishing, mining and smelting (and other high energy consumption industries), thanks to the abundant and cheap geothermal and hydroelectric energy available to the island. Today the population speaks a dialect of English, although a proportion of the population also speaks Vallandic, an endangered language which has been brought back from the brink by a vigorous linguistic restoration program.
The island was originally settled by the Norse in the 10th century, underwent governmental collapse in the 14th century, and declined dramatically in population during the little Ice Age. England established control over the island between the 16th and 17th centuries, and would heavily influence the nation from then on. The late 19th and early 20th centuries saw the growth of nationalist sentiment, which led to incremental reductions of British influence, culminating in full independence after the First World War. Valland was delayed in joining the Second World War, but ultimately did so on the allied side. Valland was a founding member of NATO, although since the end of the Cold War it has gradually drifted away from being an active participant in world affairs, preferring to focus on matters closer to home.
Credits
Pacific Rim, various Godzilla movies, Cloverfield, Daftpanzer for spriting guidance, Jamestout for developing the style upon which I have based my sprite buildings, and the Republic of Iceland. Also credit to all of you who have expressed interest in this NES, without whom this would remain nothing but a cool idea in the back of my head.
The Big Question
Yes, you can build Jaegers. Or giant mechs. Or whatever you wish to call them. However, we don't have them yet. The first turn of this NES will involve the first Kaiju attack. Subsequently, human players will have to react with whatever resources they have on-hand. However, in subsequent updates, humans will possess increasingly powerful means to combat these beasts. So just hold tight, and things will get awesome.
