Did you read any of the articles I linked to? Yes their are more wild theories about those 3 groups, none of what I mentioned. That does not mean the Council of Foreign Relations is fake. They also don't just meet up for tea. Just because their are some theories that go to the extreme, that does not mean dismiss everything about them.

I'm actually well acqainted with Elliot Abrams, at least with his politically way of though (never met the guy personally).
The CFR certainly has power, but that is because elected officials, lobbyists and businessmen consider the CFR to be a reliable source of information, and boast certain influential persons as its members (George Soros, to take one example).

Not just influence, but like I said their front group NGO's allow them to directly take action. You can check the CFr's website and see all the same names are found on the rosters of ICG, Freedom House, andFreedom Now.

So? Why is it that strange? CFR is just an organisation that provides information on America's role in foreign policy and politics, and even being interested in such subject matter is enough to be eglible for becoming a member.
It's not really a surprise that members of organizations such as Freedom House are interested in Foreign policy, and hence are CFR members too. Just happening to have CFR members is not enough to be considered a "Front operation".
And even if it is, so what? What problems would it give, aside from a few paranoid people ringing alarmbells over how the "Globalists" are conspiring to rule the world?
