LINESII- Into the Darkness

Just like in NK's updates.

With all due respect, NK's updates can be very bloody confusing precisely for this reason. ;) Besides, leave NK's to NK. This is LINES.

OOC: You know thlayli, aren't you still on "absentia" ;) By any chance, did you send orders for iggy yet?

Iggy, do you think you will post it before 6:00 AM Est on Sunday? Because if you don't think you will i have to send outlines for the next wo weeks

“There are only two types of nations: the oppressors and the oppressed. Given enough time every nation will have its turn at both.” -Sogolon Pui The Griot of Sundiata

It is a well known fact that caravans are slow and noisy affairs, but to the Telliams the Shalamari carts leaving Lux under heavy guard were especially so. Like the tourist that raises his voice and speaks more slowly in regions unfamiliar with his language, the Shalamari tribute caravan expressed itself with the same clumsy disrespect. Soldiers raised for duty and glory felt like cowards as they allowed the nations wealth to be carried off, devout followers of The One were ashamed to pay homage to Crystalist necromancers and common citizen felt like traitors for abandoning their republican rights. Most places these attitudes would make little difference, but in the Tellium Republic action eventually follows feeling.

*begins wailing* Iggy, why did my culture decrease to average from outstanding?

SILENCE YOU FOOL! Don't listen to him Iggy, just use the asterisks :p

are you taking Tellium?

No, only a fool would try to take something as grand as Tellium. I only dream of releasing it.

lurker's comment: Mongols killed lots of people. Today, people think "Hrm, Mongols killed lots of people, scary."

They even to this day debate whether they could've invaded Europe or not. :p Lengels killed lots of people. It's not hard to imagine what people will think of them much later.

France killed alot of people too, most people remember them as cheese eating surrender monkeys.

I don't know what is respectless of tourists who speak deliberately slowly with their own language? If they don't know the language they speak, it's better to try slowly with their own, isn't it? Plus the tributes are not a permanent thing. Relations between Shalamari and the old Veritasian countries are not that bad at all, for that matter.

in the Anglosphere. And possibly the Germans, not sure. Thing is, the Mongols did little of note after their downfall, while the French persisted as a great power after 1815.

Symphony said killing lots of people = scary but lots of countries have killed people and not many of them are remembered as scary.

Look the thing I dont like is Contempt being presumptuous, telling everyone how they should view the Lengels, the only people who can decide that are the players who can control them by writing stories.

killing people isn't scary, its how you kill people
Britain killed milllions during colonial times... not very scary

Germany killed thousands during the "3rd reich" scary, cause they tortured them first
its how much blood you can get from people before they die, and in the worst, most gruesome way, which makes a nation scary.

Simple

The Third Reich is usually considered scary for the ideology, not for the torture. Pretty much everybody used, uses and will use torture - yes, Britain too.

Lurker's Comment Precisely. Britain ruled a quarter of the world. But you don't generally think of them as terrifying because they did it very gradually. The Mongols ruled a quarter of the world, but they did it in a very short period of time, starting in the middle of nowhere, and very brutally to boot. Short, sharp, brutal action, from a bunch of very tough people, tends to be looked on as impressive. See also: Huns, Vikings, Goths, Pirates, Samurai, Ninja, etc. It's a hallmark of the popular image of being badass.

So far, the Lengels have steamrolled quite a number of people fairly rapidly (at least in turns if not years). They're a bit lacking on the brutality quotient, however their power and speed of applying it is nonetheless impressive. For these reasons, in historical judgment, it is more likely they will be looked upon similar to the above listed examples than not. For all intents and purposes, they appear unstoppable, and if they keep on like that for quite awhile, that'll be the thing that sticks out historically. Either way, they would be remembered, unless all trace of them is intentionally erased somehow, so it's not really that presumptuous at all IMO.

Its final, the Swade Hegemony is not scary *glares at anyone who dares say other wise, for they will be bled to death in a most gruesome way*
