LK154 - CCM - Bablyon

Well, karmically speaking we earned your good luck in my round, when we got one Leader from forty-two elite victories. :D

Have you rushed a bank in Eridu? It's probably within one move of where you're generating Leaders.

I forget how much I utterly despise garrisons in CCM. We are critically short of workers. We have towns NOT growing due to lack of worker actions. Due to garrisons we are burning workers that we can't afford to waste.

I find an enslaver hiding in a city, and wake him up. We badly need more workers.
Our monk pile in Ellipi is absurd. Border pops won't be an issue.

I am not doing much offensive vs China until we get rid of that stack of 16 units with mostly buckets.
(IT) Carthage completes Art of Islam.
Another 23 slow units appear from China.

Knight kills longsword. (34-4)
Knight kills longsword and goes elite. (35-4)
Enslaver kills longbow giving us another worker. (36-4)
Knight kills longbow. (37-4)
The good news is no new stack appeared. Once enough units heal the offensive can begin.

Carthage suddenly has a ton of GPT. I sell them university for $129 and $118/T.
I ship India iron for $110 and $36/T. I realize a flip would drop us to 0 spare, but I think the odds of a size one doing that a quite low.
I give USA $2,125 and $233/T and we have jurisprudence.
BLEH+++ I expected Greece to want that for a 2 for 1 deal. Even if we through in all of our gold, and furs they are still at doubt. :(
I at least somewhat salvage the situation as I can sell Spain jurisprudence for $140/T and $223.
The deal with Spain now gives us enough GPT to buy free artistry from Greece for jurisprudence, furs and $80/T.
That puts us only 2 techs behind the leaders. In theory there might be another 2 way trade, but it isn't worth trying until we recover some more GPT.
I switch Ellipi to a courthouse to finish during the IT. The next leader will be setup to rush Supreme Court.
(IT) Macao realizes that resistance is futile.

Knight kills longsword. (46-4)
Are you serious Knight arrives. Nippur gets a rushed library, as that is the most expensive thing available. At some point we will need to be able to self-research when the non-tradable techs arrive, so it will have value in the future.
Elite knight dies to a pike. (46-5)

Why can't my WM do this? is formed. Nippur gets a rushed marketplace.
Knight kills pike. (60-5)
Total leader overload is formed.
Eridu gets a rushed great mosque.

We have contact with Japan. They give $119 and $147/T for free artistry.
I ship free artistry to Indo-China for dyes, $12/T and $18. While they are probably the next best target, I don't see us finishing off China and shifting all of our troops south in 20 turns.
Looking at the map, I could see Indo-China, Dutch, Aztec, Canada and Israel as our next 100+ turns of fighting. By the time we are done with that set we will have a very nice short border in the south.

Our enslaver kills a French longbow near us, but no worker. (61-5)
Our mullah attacks two French workers. We capture one, and turn the other into a monk. (62-5)
Our enslaver dies to a bucket. (62-6)

During the safe round we broke six resisters.
China completes Forbidden Palace. I hope that didn't start there golden age.

1680 AD (6)
Enslaver kills a badly damaged yogi. (79-15)

I give Israel $360/T for economics.
I give USA $1,100 and economics to get physics. We know have a new small wonder to rush if there are any leaders left in the game.
We are still behind at least medicine and ballistics.
(IT) We lost our exploring ship to a privateer. (80-15)
We have heavy fighting by Hangchow. They lost 3 riders, and 4 swords. We lost a mis-clicked monk, knight and arb. (87-18)

Knight dies to pike. (109-28)

While we have broken the back of China, they still have a boatload of units floating around. To make it worse, the Chinese road network sucks. The workers that could have put a garrison by Hangchow had to get the road down to let us get enough reinforcements to take the town.

We aren't that far away from the industrial age, and the inability to trade a lot of techs. I would like to keep all of former Russia and Scandinavia primarily on buildings. I want that to include libraries and academies after the income buildings. While we have a large empire, our research ability isn't that great at this time.

A great start on the conquest of China. :goodjob:

We made nice progress in tech, too. We're exchanging colossal amounts of gpt with the AI civs. It would be interesting to know why they have so much gold now, after it was very slim pickings on my round.

The settler we'll receive in four turns should found a city claiming the four presently wasted BG south of Ellipi and east of Canton. The area should be calm by the time the settler arrives.

We are critically short of workers. We have towns NOT growing due to lack of worker actions. Due to garrisons we are burning workers that we can't afford to waste.

You could raze a city when conquered and gain workers of that action. In the next version of CCM garrisons are handled different.

Spain is suddenly rich.
It would be interesting to know why they have so much gold now, after it was very slim pickings on my round.

My guess: These civs made contact to other civs technological backwards to them and sold them some of their techs. Spain is seafaring and therefore has a better chance to do first overseas contacts.

Great start on annexing China. :goodjob:

When we are relocating our Army to Indo-china how about we march back through France?
The settler we'll receive in four turns should found a city claiming the four presently wasted BG south of Ellipi and east of Canton. The area should be calm by the time the settler arrives.
I was thinking about the spot 5 tiles SW of Assur which is about where you are talking about.

Hebrew are ahead of us in tech, and IIRC ballistics giving a better defender then we have attackers. It would be very brutal.

OTOH - France wouldn't be hard, but they would have a lot of tundra crap cities.

I'm tempted by Israel's mountain of gold too, but the problem is that they already have Ballistics/musketeers, and will almost certainly have Absolutism/musketmen by the time we could attack them. So that would be a campaign of really ugly 4-6 attacks. We might be better off picking on weaklings, starting with France, until we have MilTrad/cav. If the recent tech pace isn't deceptive, that won't be too long now.

Edit: Cross-post with LK. It's true that France's cities are poor, but if we eliminate Israel from consideration and it's a choice between France and Indochina, the Indochinese are listed as strong relative to us. That means a lot of elephants, and a troublesome war we might want to delay until we're stronger.

In the last three pages there is no screenshot about Israel. Do they have access to saltpeter?

Ugh. Of course in CCM cav only have movement of two, so we can deal with them however high their attack factor. But it's unpleasant that the Israelites have already reached Military Tradition, and already have defense-six musketmen.
