725 AD (0)
I had a feeling when Jersey Joe took so long to finish the set that our first war had begun.

The unmoved leader builds an army. We need several more cities to build another army.

Philadelphia is unhappy, so I switched it to a partial-rushed church.

We still clearly need more workers. Seattle needs a ton of mines.
(IT) Poland completes Hagia Sophia.

750 AD (1)
The assault on Liverpool begins. I kill 4 pikes and 1 longbow. I lost 1 knight. (5-1)
Despite having Hammurabi's Code I raze the city. That wonder won't last much longer.
Including workers captured I gained 13 workers.

I kill Britain: 1 pike, 2 longbows and 1 foot knight. (9-1)
I lost: 1 pirate ship. (9-2)
(IT) I kill Britain: 1 crossbow, and 1 invisible. (11-1)
A lot of Germans cross our borders. I think they are heading toward Britain.

775 AD (2)
The assault on Coventry begins. I kill 2 pikes and 1 foot knight. (14-1)
I gained 1 worker.

I trade Carthage navigation for engineering and $2,070.
I trade Germany navigation for $2,622.

I kill Britian: 1 pike and 1 crossbow. (16-1)
(IT) The Hanseatic League is completed.
I can't figure out what Germany is up to. All those units just sit there this time.
Our people want to build Great Iron Mine. I think I'll wait until New Orleans has its iron connected. I don't feel comfortable building that in a British city.

800 AD (3)
I ship engineering to Spain for $1,006.
I ship engineering to Greece for $830 and $78/T.

I kill Britain: 1 chariot, 1 pike and 1 longbow. (19-1)
(IT) I killed Britain: 1 elephant. (20-1)
I lost 1 knight. (20-2)

825 AD (4)
The assault on Glasgow begins. I kill 2 pike. I lost 3 knights. (22-5)
I found 2 workers inside. I was due for a bad attack.

I spot 2 British units walking around New Orleans.

War weariness is already taking a toll. The luxury tax goes up another 10%.

I ship Greece navigation for $270 and $236/T.
I ship Portugal iron for silks and $5/T.

I kill Britain: 1 crossbow and 1 catapult. (24-5)
(IT) I beat invisible (probably Britain). (25-5)
Our last scout is dead. (25-6)

850 AD (5)
The assault on London begins. I kill 4 pikes and 1 foot knight. I lost: 3 knights. (30-9)
I gained 14 workers from razing the city.
[End of session 1]
(IT) Carthage is building Islamic Art.

875 AD (6)
I buy Sacred Art from Carthage for $4322. New York switches from Constitution to Sacred Music due in 5 turns. With war weariness we can't have enough happy sources. That will give us another happy face from every church.

I kill Britain: 1 crossbow. (31-9)
I lost 1 knight and 1 tomahawk warrior. (33-11)
I gained 1 worker.

900 AD (7)
Baltimore is founded on the rubble from Liverpool.
(IT) Some German troops shuffle around. They are all still sitting too close to us.

925 AD (8)
The assault on Birmingham begins. I lost 1 knight. (33-12)
The rest of the knights retreated with 1 HP left. That assault was a total failure.

The assault on Edinburgh begins. I kill 1 pike. (34-12)
The city is ours very easily. I found 1 worker inside.

I kill Britain: 1 Dromon. (35-12)
(IT) I lost: 1 galleass and 1 knight. (37-12)

950 AD (9)
The second assault on Birmingham begins. I kill 3 pikes and 1 crossbow. I lost 4 knights. (39-16)
I found 1 worker inside.

I kill Britain: 1 spear and 1 missionary. (41-16)
I lost: 1 pirate ship. (41-17)

(IT) Carthage is building the Great Mosque of Cordoba. That is a wonder I don't recognize. They are also building Dome of the Rock.
Our naval explorer died in the ocean. I was trying to find another land mass. It didn't survive one turn in the ocean.

950 AD (10)
Our luxury rate goes to an obscene 60%.

Carthage must have gotten access to incense. Those two wonders they are building need it.
[End of session 2]

Once our naval explorer gets to the tip of Portugal, we need to have it try to find another land mass.

A new settler just arrived. It should go to the rubble from London.

Sacred Music arrives in one turn. That wonder is locked. After that, we should switch back to the Constitution. With having to deal with war weariness we need every possible happy source.

Once the war with England is over, we need to reset the luxury rate back to reasonable

A stack of knights is building up near Birmingham. There are a lot of healing knights in the area, including our army.

The remnants of Britain:

You can see the knight stack below Birmingham ready to head toward Manchester next turn.
SE of the army are more healing knights.

Once Britain is done, the next target is Germany. They already took a beating losing 2 cities to Britain that somehow became ours.

Berlin is a major keeper with Silk Road. It will be an economic powerhouse city. It will also give us a natural source of silks.
None of the other cities are all that great. We need to keep Leipzig to keep horses away from Carthage.
IMO Hamburg and Koenigsberg can be razed for workers. Despite how many workers I got from Britain we still need lots more.

Does the Iron need to be connected or just within the 20 workable squares?

Is this question referring to Great Iron Mine? If yes, the iron need to be connected.

There are ~25 visible German units along our borders. We need some build up time before starting that war. All those injured troops from fighting Britain need to heal and move to the borders. The wars need to be fast to minimize the time dealing with war weariness.

The war with Britain was a bit too soon. The main reason I didn't mind it was the bonus of getting 2 former German cities.

Long-term the big war is Carthage. I'm hoping they build all those Islamic wonders. If they do, we can get a ton of happiness from taking over them.

We can't depend on the slow grind wars.
They need to be a lot faster. Overwhelming number of units is required. The big challenge part of this variant is the WW. The most effective way to deal with it is blitz wars.

AFAIK, that's actually not true: the 2 checks (Iron connected? Y/N + Iron in radius? Y/N) are processed separately.

So if you already have a source of Iron connected to your tradenet, and New Orleans already has access to that connected Iron, then its additional Iron-tile should not need to be connected for you to be able to build the Iron Mine there.

All of the buildings that generate supply units require the item to within its radius

Yes, I know that. But the resource in the radius does not need to be roaded if you already have one of those resources connected elsewhere.

The great iron mine in New Orleans was a good call. When New O gets more people and mines it will be a production powerhouse.

On slow wars, I think we should be more willing to go for peace when WW gets fairly bad. Losing a city or two due to flips is much smaller than having our economy tank, especially in the later game. We just need to be aware when we put units in cities for cities that might flip.

That said, I do agree a quick war is ideal when we can do it and more preparation makes sense.

There is also the idea of killing units only and then going for peace; the city capturing happens next war when WW for large unit fights is gone.

Pre-turn:

We do have a lot of cities that need Worker investment, particularly Boston, Atlanta, and Seattle.

A few MM tweaks:
San Francisco to grow in 1 instead of 2, Slavery still due in 1
Houston picks up a few extra shields (only needs 1 extra food to grow)
Buffalo gets an engineer, grows in 1, Workshop due in 1
Coventry works a BG instead of hill for faster growth, Musket still due next turn.

We have 52 Musketmen to garrison cover 21 cities, leaving 10 for the front.
We have 42 American Knights. Two SoD?

Planning ahead, I think we'd like 3-4 SoD/army groups. Let's call them

Ward group - advances on Koenigsberg, then heads towards Leipzig.
Lee group - march from Munich to siege Berlin.
Schuyler group - march from River Valley to sack Hamburg.
Putnam group - gather on the German border NE of Nuremberg, then march around the mountains and attack Nuremberg from the north. Take Hannover.

If we have the mass of Knights to carry the field, we should be able to take the cities in 5-6 turns.

Based on current builds, we should add around 20 Knights and 10 Musketmen by the end of my turnset.

IBT:
British bombard several cities with dromons
Holy Man of some sort tries -- and fails -- to convert our Musketman next to Munich.

Sacred Music comes in!

1000 AD:
Knight kills British Pike near Edinburgh

IBT: More shore bombardments. Germany removes their troops from our borders.

Glasgow riots as resistance ends!

1025 AD:

Attack on Manchester:
Three American Knights hew down three Pikes...and the city falls. All too easy.
I raze the city for 7 workers.

Carthage and Germany both have Renaissance available now, but I'm holding off on buying it in hopes of a 2fer.

IBT:

Birmingham deposes us.

1050 AD:

Birmingham II:
Knight retreats
Army kills Spear and retakes the city.

Battle of Portsmouth:
The first Knight retreats
The next two trample spears and break the gates!

sg_482.jpg

Lux slider down to 20%; no clowns in Washington

IBT:

Lisbon complains about our Medieval naval explorer. We assure the nervous Portuguese that we're merely passing through.

The Berbers (Carthage) invade Germany!

1100 AD IBT: We have our new Constitution!

1125 AD:

Our Medieval Naval Explorer meets Turkey in sector E-7! They have extra Cotton, and they're super ignorant. We immediately trade Trade for their Cotton.

1150 AD:

Enslaver retreats from Teutonic Footknight escorting a Settler
Enslaver captures German worker

I buy Renaissance from Germany for 4140 gold
Resell to Greece for 866 gold
And to Lowlands for 772 gold + 104gpt

IBT: Knight near Nuremberg fights off an invisible Missionary, based on the sound

Carthage is building Holy City
Carthage completes Great Mosque of Cordoba

1175 AD:

Enslaver kills enemy Enslaver near Frankfurt

Cincinnati settled near Seattle.

1200 AD IBT:

Carthage captured Nuremberg
Carthage completes Islamic Art and Dome of the Rock!

1225 AD: All I do is move a few troops and update Worker moves.

Here's Old Britannia. We do need to send a couple of Settlers that way:

sg_483.jpg

And here's Germany...what's left of it.

Good riddance to Britain.

It is way early then I was thinking but let us get ready for ASAP Germany war. Berlin with Silk Road is too valuable of a prize. In addition, I don't want Carthage to be that big of a monster.

Long-term the big war is Carthage. I'm hoping they build all those Islamic wonders. If they do, we can get a ton of happiness from taking over them.
