Master Map Thread

Beijing does not flip, but everything north of it does. Still, I would insist on putting the iron inside China's core, at least not in Mongolia's.

Seconded. For both gameplay and historical merits;
AI China doesn't always have access to Iron for one reason or another, so while it can be in Beijing's BFC, it would be prudent to position it south of Beijing.
As for history, China had always been a producer of high quality iron and steel, and during the Song Dynasty, this industry peaked and actually approached a level of industrialization.
Also, I remember suggesting a source of Gems along the Yellow River to represent Jade, as it was important to the Shang Dynasty and the dynasties that would come after it.
You took it out after you put it in?

I never put in the jade because for game play purposes I thought that would give China way too many resources.

As for the iron north of Beijing, how about moving the iron to its west?

Firstly:

My thinking was that before Chinese civilization got around Beijing, they used copper for armor and weapons. It also gives Beijing more production.

This is erroneous and not backed up by any source.
Iron and Steel were already being utilized in China dating all the way back to 600 BC.
If anything, the Iron should be moved down near the center of China as this very much predates when Beijing became relevant, which started with the Yuan Dynasty.

As for Gems, I really don't think it's too big of a deal considering how many other regions were buffed with extra resources.
There are only 4 luxuries within reach for China, and you really have to go out of your way to get the Gold on the mainland.
As it stands, and as youtien, Chep & I have confirmed, it's actually more convenient to settle/conquer Japan for that Gold.

Huh? Has this been recently been changed? It used to be one/two tiles southwest of Bejing.

If you are talking about this modmodmod then I have no idea. Check the OP to see the lastest map.

Ah, I expected RT to leave the Iron in place. Yes, it should definitely be in the south.

How about the iron 1 SW of Beijing? That would give Xi'an the iron until Beijing is founded, in which Beijing would then get it since it's closer.

It is fine by me as well.

On a separate note, I still stand by my case for Gems along the Yellow River, especially if you want to talk balance.
If you think the current amount is fine for China, compare it to its contemporary, India.
I made a mistake in my earlier post, there are actually 5 Luxuries in easy reach of China, not 4, and 2 potential extras in the form of an out-of-the-way Gold and Ivory if you get Hanoi.
But that's two fewer than India, who I do think is fine as is, having access to 9.
However, considering that both China and India are expected to support higher and equivalent levels of population,
it therefore supports a good case for their luxury access to be somewhat equivalent.
I'm not asking for 9 Luxuries anyway, I'm just advocating the addition of a source of Gems to make it a solid 6 + 2optional vs. 9 guaranteed,
as if you don't have the whole subcontinent as India, you're clearly doing something wrong.
Not to mention they have a strong historical precedent to backup my gameplay reasons as well.

Ball's in your court now. Any rebuttal?

Hmm, my trick is to settle the gems city in India along with the gold and silver cities in Japan. Works wonders.

You want to share it?

I already did in the earlier thread. I also wrote my changes into the map in the mastermap mod that I downloaded from CITIS and posted to the earlier thread. I got no response. Anyway I'm just posting the save and the pic again.

Hm. I don't agree with expanding India. For some lands it warrants more cause as the nations need some production/commerce boost (Japan, England), but for India they already have that. Aesthetically it looks distorted as well.

This makes a good case for making a modmodmod where you can pick pieces to add on, though. For instance, there could be modmodmodmods.

I already changed the river placement and resources in India.

Looking at the changes, I think the rivers look natural and represent the actual rivers well and give the appropriate areas fresh water and levies. However, looking at the resources, I do notice that the central of India is rather worthless. It never really grows, and the iron is somewhat wasted on that city.

I'll look back into it and see if your model plays out better, but I don't support expanding India.
