MB4 - GOTM24 Redux [civ3] Roster A

I got it loaded and had a quick look. I might pump some more artillery at home to damage their coastal attacks. Otherwise its Tanks, Tanks and some extra ships for transport defence. I'll think about some Kamikaze too. Hopefully we'll some effects of the pillaging, but I'm going to start punching out of the beachhead straight off.

I decided to forgo cooking dinner tonight, should be back in an hour and hopefully will be able to put a full night into this (not too late however).

Send luck to the boys on the front.

Go Smackster!

I noticed Han is still in Democracy. Surely that pillage must start hitting them soon? You've a few Settlers in Beachhead you can use to punch back the culture, and there seem to be plenty of resources to knock out their cities. Looks like you should have a lot of fun.

1650AD

Move a settler to the front at Baekje beachead, to capture some culture. Start a pushing the research on AW, as we will need it might as well get it now.

IBT

See about 6 Infantry and 2 Cavalry die attacking the Infantry Army in Ogaki. The lone Cavalry near Beijing goes down.

T1 1655AD
Artillery bombardment on Chengdu shows there to be at least 7 Infantry and one Infantry Army there. We destroy the factory, the uni and get it down to size 11. Enough to send the tanks in. 6 Tanks die and we destroy the army and 7 Infantry and a Milita. We capture Chengdu with Magellens voyage.

I'll post this now, shall I abandon it, or keep Magellens. It will be tough to keep of course?

T1 1655AD cont.
Taking it carefullly, lots of airlifts, shuffling into position for attacks on both Ongjin, Chongju.

IBT About 6 retailiation attacks from Han, mainly with Cavalry. I declare the main retalliation over.

T2 1660AD

Settlers creates city near Ongjin, allows artillery to move in place and bombard this turn. Ongjin shows 5 infantry, we reduce them all to 2 max hp. Tanks to go in now. 16 size city, but its enough for me.
Ongjin is razed for the loss 2 tanks.

Same method with Chongju, settler creates space, artillery move in, 4 Infantry red lined. Victory is easy and Chongju is razed. We now have a culture vacuum around the Baekje Beachhead.

Now we see more Han cities in Artillery range, they move in on city to north Taejon and we see they only have one Infantry that is soon redlined. They start to show their pikemen defenders, Taejon is razed, no loss.

One of the new cities is abondoned so that we don't have to defend, don't need the culture now. Han is gone, finito, dead, I wonder if any of you will get to play any more moves.

The northern tanks move into position, look to take at least three cities in the north next turn. Most airdrops go south as that area does seem tougher.

IBT Two Cavalry counters, one tank destroyed.

T3 1665AD

Start up north, most northern city razed, by 5 unasisted tanks.

Settler then Artillery do their work on New Chengu, 3 Infantry redlined, City is razed by two tanks.

With the lack of retaliation, the tanks now just charge en-masse as far as they can into their territory.

To the south after bombardment Macao is razed, with loss of two tanks, we are still building and airlifting more tanks per turn than losing.

IBT minor Cavalry counters, barely worth noting. Han drops an infantry on the Trattori island, we rush an airport.

T4 1670AD

New Canton is raized, loss of one tank, only two defenders, starting to destroy lots of ships with each coastal city.

Pyongyang is raized by one tank. Two defenders again.

Next city stuck in the mountains, 4 Infantry defender, takes some artillery damage, but the tanks still finish it without loss. There is no stopping us now. We are now two city depths from joining the northern and southern fronts.

Large set of our reinforcements arrive in the north, via transport, not that we need them.

In other fighting, get a leader, build an army.

Sariwon is razed, get another leader, build another army.

IBT Chengu flips back, no problem we have about 15 tanks next to it.

T5 1675AD

AW researched, building marines now.

Wow, nothing razed this turn, next turn there will be many.

That's all for now, should be able to finish tomorrow as its along travel day for me in airports. Hopefully can post tomorrow night when I land.

Smackster

Northern armies continue to raze.

Wow! that was brutal... :goodjob:

I forgot to say that all the Explorers and Kamikaze were just placeholders for you guys to build whatever you wanted, but it doesn't seem to matter much now.

And yes, Alan, the Han landed a Militia and an Infantry near Edo, but that's the only counterattack they managed to build up ;)

I'm glad you like the new look of Beijing -in fact, I think there is some aesthetic quality to it... :D

At 1650 AD we were 83 tiles from domination. We should run as close as possible for a bit more score.

I'm glad you like the new look of Beijing -in fact, I think there is some aesthetic quality to it...
Minimalist, post-modern, and so understated :p

I have no feel for how close the others are to finishing, but it sounds like we'll be done very soon after 1700 AD. Extrapolating from Space's graph as at 1450 AD, we could lose if the B team come in before about 1650 AD. PTW probably can't catch us now, even if they finished at 1450 AD.

Exactly, no sign of workers all hiding in Beijing.

Marines will be built next turn, and I rushed an airport in the nearest city to Shimazu with transports waiting, they should be there next turn and probably invade the turn after

Have you tried any Kamikaze yet?

They behave like artillery -I needed to load them onto a Transport to reach Korea.
And they didn't seem too effective, apart from allowing me to sink a Han Destroyer after bombarding it with our Artilleries from the coast (which I forgot to mention in the log).

I have a number loaded going over there now, I guess I don't quite get them either. You would need a lot of them to make a difference. Right now cities are going down without artillery bombardment.

Just to emphasis the point, every turn counts in our race against the B team. Also, if we can grab a few extra Firaxis points with more happy faces and/or extra territory within the domination limit, let's do it. Gold won't increase our score, so if we have a surplus now we've researched marines, and we don't need it for rushing, then let's turn up the lux slider to run the treasury down towards zero.

To grab some extra Firaxis points we should sell off anything that doesn't add cash or happy faces and wind up the lux slider as far as possible. We can dispose of libraries, universities, granaries, even airports and most harbours if we have exported everything we need. We need to keep a few harbours to link the islands to our luxuries. Also make sure we colonise the remaining luxuries as we destroy the Han - each one will add four happy faces in the big cities.

INCREDIBLE!!

I checked this thread on Saturday afternoon and it was quiet. Monday morning and the Han are in their death throes.

While the ROP Rape is dastardly and the AI never uses it as effectively as the human, Karasu was brillant to use it and use it so effectively.

So now it just comes down to the most effective mop up method. We probably need to get a transport over to the island off the Han's west coast.

I wonder if Alan and I will get to see this one?

Great job karasu and smackster!!

@Sir Bugsy:
If I get to see it again I suspect we'll have lost the race. You *might* get one or two turns, but Smackster is pretty ruthless, and I'm guessing he might finish it in the next five. You're right, though, those three cities on Han's western island could be the last to fall.

Go smackster!!

Be ruthless!!

Retire this game before 1700 AD.

As to the Western Island, and compleatly not knowing the tactical situation, it may be quicker to settle a city on the west coast of Han lands, rush a transport and get troops over that way.

Every turn could make the difference right now.

Still not quite finished, played on the plane to LA until my battery ran out, hopefully finish it soon.

It would be easy but for Han culture slowing us down.

I wont win this in my last few turns, but I predict that the next person will finish it.

Well, it looks like I don't get to play with the tanks, but I look forward to you or Sir Bugsy reaching the finishing post. Let's make it quick with lots of Firaxis points!

Can't quite finish this morning, here is the write up, to turn 9

T5 1675AD cont

Take Alan's advice start to sell of the infrastructure and work up the lux slider.

Sitting on a plane to LA, selling of the infrastructure, thinking about hollywood (you have to sing this)

I think I got all the libraries and Unis, some barracks that we don't need, and some walls. I was more selective on the harbors as I didn't want us to get cut off.

IBT Han only has the energy left to strike at our worker skirmishers, and leave his cavalry in the open

T6 1680AD

Northern artilery barrage red-lines another cities defence and the Tank army rolls in (didn't note the name of this city, now its gone).

Heavily defended Seol size 20, attacked by waves of Tanks, unassisted by artillery. One Tank lost, Seol is captured to see what they have, Great Wall and Great Library, don't need them, Seol is abandoned. Another leader is gained, another army is built.

Artillery bombardment begins on Angyang to the south. Heavy damage on the city and its raised without loss. We now have a little culture vacuum to the south.

Tanks attack Paoting in the mountains, unassisted, city is raised without loss, couple of retreats. More culture vacuum.

Han culture is the only thing slowing us down now, some settlers arrive on their continent.

First marine arrives in Nimi, Bombers arrive too for some softening, Shimazu have 2 Muskets and a Samurai

Transports move into place to invade Hans island.

IBT Chengdu flips again, recaptured again

T7 1685AD

Artillery bomarbs Wonson, and we see our first Kamikaze, does seem to do some damage. Tanks can't finish it, Settler arrives squeezes one more space of culture and the rest of the thanks can reach it Wonson is raized We don't need the culture from Seol so it too is raized, it would keep flipping anyway. Do we get point for those wonders, sorry too late.

Another Settler creates room for an attack on Yangchow. We start to build more settlers at home as this is really helping.

The forces around Kaesong gather from the north and south, a historic moment approaches, but can't quite take it this turn.

Another city raized to the NW, can't remember name again.

One more settler trick up our sleeves here, no can't quite do it.

Aborted attack on Tietsin.

IBT Han militia start to attack our tanks on mountains, signs of desperation. Seem they can only build militia now.

T8 1690AD

Heavy artillery bomardment on Kaesong, I see about 6 infantry there all redlined. One good Kamikazee attack. Kaesong is taken, they have JS Bach and Shakespearse, only size 4 so starve it and keep it for now.

Struggling against culture, rushed many more settlers but it takes a few turns to get them over there.

Declare war on Shimazu, have 6 Marines ready, 4 bombers go in to soften them up. Will attack next turn after one more round of bombing, I know Shimazu have a frigate in their city so don't want to risk it

Attack Munson on Han in the middle, raze it, which really help to push the culture back.

Load troops for attack on Han island.

We now have space to attack Yongbyon to the east, we raze it without loss and now a historic moment as we join with culture our two beachheads

IBT Terrible news, Han arrives with Marines at New Kasagi and capture it. We should have a plattoon of tanks there in two turns, so no real problem. Shimazu frigate dies attacking a transport. Our attack on the Han island comes close to failing as we nearly lose a transport to an ironclad, but we survive.

T9 1695

Start bombing Shimazu again, two defenders redlined, 5 marines go in and Shimazu is no more. We capture the island an place marines there to keep it safe.

Bombard Teisan to the SE, do good damage, but after killing 5 defenders they have one left and we have no more in range.

Attack Changyon to the west, can't get enought tanks in range. Decide to use a new trick called Setler city shuffling (I just made this up). Settled near Changyon but not near enough to get more tanks in, still two steps of culture, move another settler in the city vacinty on railroad, abaondon the first city, settle the second city and now we have culture in range so that more thanks can move in. First tank, Changyon is raized

Same settler trick with Tientsin, it uses two settlers but gets you in range. Starting to build lots of settlers at home. Tientsin is raized
