Media Critics: "MSNBC Is Not a Left-Wing Fox News"

How can there be a left wing major media outlet when there's so few actual leftists in the United States?
Left wing when compared to the rest of America.
IE: Obama to some seeming like a radical left-winger when in reality he is a centrist (right leaning at that!).

It's all relative. There are hardly any real liberals left in the US. And for all intents and purposes no socialists. And none of the media is objectively liberal. Just somewhat more liberal that the population as a whole.

I would say the major difference is that while MSNBC is absolutely full of left wing bias, their pundits are much more clear about what is their actual opinion and what is part of the actual story. On Fox News they often present biased information and opinions as actual news or so mixed in it is difficult to distinguish.

If you only received information from MSNBC, you're likely be a rapid liberal who thinks all Republicans are witch burning racists who want to bring back feudalism. If you watch even a segment of Fox News without understanding its bias however, you're likely to think that whatever democrat they happen to be talking about is evil, incompetent and on drugs.

Well, not witch-burning.

I've found that you sort of have to separate MSNBC into the News catagory and the Opinions catagory. For News, I have found they are less biased than Fox. For Opinion, I agree they are better at separating news and opinion.

Well that's where I see the difference. During the day, MSNBC is pretty much real news. Fox stays on attack mode 24/7.

I dont mind bias, but Fox lied us into war and its quite obvious lying is not only acceptable but required. MSNBC fired Phil Donahue because he opposed invading Iraq when it mattered, and MSNBC proved itself to be an organ of the Democrat party during the primaries by the non stop slamming of a select few Repugs. They took out Harry Reid's 2 challengers, they helped Sharron Angle by trashing Sue Lowden and after Angle won they went after her. They helped Rand Paul win his primary and then immediately trashed him when he won. The senate races in Delaware and Connecticut are 2 more examples of their BS. I dont think even Fox was so blatant with the partisan politics.

Americans should watch BBC to get a better view of things.

Quoted for absolute truth.

All that said, MSNBC does seem somewhat less biased than Fox, though neither are particularly impartial. Really, the biases wouldn't bother me if they just owned up to them.

Yes they are. Just watch it for a few hours. Ed Shultz, Chris Mathews, Keith Oberman, and that lady.

Ummm... Anyone who doesn't think MSNBC is biased is a lefty.

MSNBC is totally inaccurate.

Even CNN is left-leaning. FOX is right-leaning, but still usually fair enough.
MSNBC News is far more accurate than Fox News "News" CNN is the most centrist of the news organizations, can you tell me what Anderson Cooper's slant is?

I concur, foreign places generally have more objective news and BBC is a great example of that.
How can there be a left wing major media outlet when there's so few actual leftists in the United States?
Because the US is far to the right that anyone near a European Centrist is a socialist

With MSNBC the opinion is obviously opinion, and I don't remember witch burning

Or maybe this

I know the Left is kind of pathetically ineffectual, but saying that MSNBC is our political arm is giving us way LESS credit than we deserve.

msnbc just realized a couple years back from their buds at fox that people love that forceful and unsubtle political commentary thruout the entire day and that at its zenith, fox had left the whole lot of the american left in a pouty mood and in the market for some good old post-cognitive programming that could confirm all of their bias as well.

still msnbc's biases are more bottom-up biases built on commercial pragmatism just to spice up the programming while fox's high-rollers, as the article states, are flatly better bros with their political beneficiaries.

The single greatest achievement of talk radio is convincing people that the rest of the media is liberal.

What does it matter which political belief they pretend to represent? They're all mouthpieces for the rich and powerful.
