[UNIT] Mighty Ships Et Al

I think I have the Minoan ship facing the right way.
Very, very good:hatsoff::woohoo:. Thank you very much:egypt:. You're saving an entire era.
The Egyptian unit is a fairly seaworthy ship."Despite the flat and narrow hull, they have good seaworthiness for sailing in coastal sea waters thanks to the rudder with a powerful blade, a sailing mast and a sharp keel".
Solar ships are really river ships, and they are very long, narrow, and with a low draft.
Now a bit of trouble
Sorry, I'm late:scared:. It is believed that Minoan ships have a ram-like protrusion at the rear. These are the murals of Akrotiri. It is unlikely that the pilot looks back. However, such ships could move in any direction, just by moving the steering oar.

Given that those seem to be ships meant for a pleasure cruise it's exceedingly unlikely that thing is a ram as opposed to a decorative piece. Not that rams would be out of place on their warships. Really, back in those days you only had two ways of doing things. You either rammed or you boarded. And a typical battle would probably start with one and devolve into the other assuming your crews were skilled enough to pull ramming off.

This is called an allustre (?). Disputes about its purpose have been going on for a long time, but no option implies a ram. Simply because trying to ram with the allustre, the ship will break the more protruding parts of the hull. At the same time, the design of the hull as a whole is clearly weak for ramming blows. In reality, the battering ram at the waterline is a fairly late invention. There are questionable assumptions about 1000 BC. Mainstream - much more recent dates.

Plus it's on a small ship full of people lounging. I know disputes between nobles can get nasty but still.

Yes. But it is unlikely that the larger ones looked fundamentally different. As far as I know, all images of Minoan ships-have about the same "design" ("crescent moon")

Good thing we have Pecheneg to fact check. The Minoan ship is "probably" facing the wrong direction.

It's from Colonization WTP, where it works perfect :undecide:

Super easy. The unit doesn't have a shader, but has a skin partition. Doesn't need that. So all you need to do is go under skin instance and delete the skin partition for the dude, and his hat.

Also, usually you would want to copy the material from the vanilla unit so the alpha fade works. Also rename the trishape(strip in this case) to the vanilla name (Editable Poly). This is because the kf files refer to the mesh by name (Editable Poly). If the name is wrong it won't work.

The larger ships I posted were larger than the Stealth Destroyer, longer, one has afew railguns.

I remember a railship unit back in civ3 something made fondly, always thought it would be cool to have one in Civ4.

Two other designs:

Top one is a Corvette with a single railgun, second one is a battleship. I love that design.

Railguns on newer designs already exist, weapon is real:

I know about the Final Frontier ships(what scale are you using fyi?) But have been looking for a great starship with that design, adapting the final frontier weapon effects to a hovering unit, I have been able to change the position of a unit in nifscope, but I'm not sure how to adjust effects. Would be cool if the Final Frontier ships would hover and fire with the new elevation.

Errr... isn't that a screenshot from Transformers? :mischief:

Dunno, it came with AND2 and I never had to touch them. I can send you the CIV4ArtDefines_Unit file, if you want. Just search for ' FinalFrontier '.

I see...
How about Home World ships? I think they are really cool.

Maybe they would even be better as SF naval units too, than the FF ones.
Or at least FF ships could use a little editing to look more "ship-y".

At the moment I am working on Mycenaean units. First one is looking like this. This guy has full Achilles god armor. Will need something less flashy for common soldiers.
greek_dude-jpg.595349

Whenever these are done I will probably do one of the following:
Chariot Archer(Egyptian/Assyrian?)
StarGate SG1 F-303/304
Eastern Europe Gunpowder units
Mass convert all Civ 5 units (long time)

These are the projects on my to do list. Since there is such demand for Future/Sci-Fi I will probably do that next.
Will have to assess: What do we have? What do we need?
The gunship is like 90% there. We already have missile animations. Everything else probably from FF. But won't know that for a fact till I look.
I think you can mostly graft on sound/effects/animation (maybe) from the jet fighter to the gunship. I haven't looked at FF units in a 6 months probably, but I don't remember them having engine exhaust.
SG1 is my favorite show, and I already have the models. So definitely going with that. Although, once the animations are done you would be able to easily swap out any model in the future.

Its awesome your doing Mycenaean stuff that is a great and very pleasant surprise.

On the Sci-fi stuff as Walter said most of the stuff in the link he posted was never converted. All the mecha were, but the near-future aircraft carrier hasn't been, or the Atmospheric Fighter,

On other ships just as the Stealth ships are real and slowly replacing 20th century designs, Railgun armed ships(concept art I posted) are as well. As for attack animation, I watched a few videos, and from what I saw, that Omen Horseman animation could find some use here. As for the concept art, its not something you need to replicate, you can be as creative as you want and make your own designs. They were posted mainly as examples.

Further future ships we are talking hovering units, in reality starships operating in an atmosphere. which you are familiar with making Toad looking for some more naval looking designs, but the Final Frontier animations have to be adapted so they fire looking right with a unit that isn't on the surface of the sea(space in FF).

SG1 is my favorite show,

I don't know what to do with them yet but I will definitively need to find a use for them in my mod
