mm17: Napoleon Dynamite AWE-1CC

I will be on vacation with the family for the next 10 days. I will of course have my laptop and civ disk for when the wife and kids are asleep, my 1 vice. I assume I will have internet access but if I don't post in 48 hrs skip me. Good luck, we are looking good so far. As long as we keep a tech lead we should be OK.

Happy vacating, mark!

Inherited turns, I merged the merchant:

Then, I try to search through the log to see if anyone has already nabbed the circumnavigation, and found this interesting message:

And then Asoka decided to give us one more city to raze.

I wasted one sword, but that is no choice. The fortified longbow in a city on a hill combo is too great for any maceman to take it alone (even a CRIII maces has only 40% chance)

Good news: we have a forest grow. Bad news, its not where we wanted. :crazyeye:

Yet another civ got declared war upon:

And ladies and gentlemen, we have Liberalism:

and of-course circumnavigation as well:

I also unloaded some troops in preparations for Galley -> Galleon upgrade (Galleon can hold 3 units, and we only have money for 3 upgrades). Then Alex unloaded some troops for our maces to practice on.

The longbow had no time to fortify, and was killed by the mace.

Before Pindicator get this, I had these troops in Asoka's land. I :smoked: by not transfering one more cat there. So, you need one more ferry. Meanwhile, you could pillage.

Also, I think I sank the galley and pillaged the nets, but forgot whether is it before I saved or after. :p

>>> The Save (1400AD) <<<

Suggest we head for Chemistry after gunpowder, and then go for steel for Frigate support.

Going to need a swap. I couldn't get to it tonight. I won't get to it tomorrow night (unless it's a really awful BBQ my friends put on), so that's my 48 hr window. Saturday's the earliest I can go.

im very sorry to say but i will have to skip and i wont be back for a week im very sry

Ah, sorry. When you said we had until the 13th until the others came back, I didn't push to get it done. If I don't get to it within 15-16 hrs (by tonight, my time) then you can swap with me and I'll definitely get to it over the weekend.

me swapping with you?? That's like me playing 20 turns!

Nah, don't worry, I am simply impatient to see how things develop, plus mark did say he has a laptop and will find time when wife and child sleep to play during his vacantion. However, he have not checked in ... apparently his wife and child never sleeps ;)

We started off with a "Welcome-To-India" party: 2 cats and a LB attacked out of Bangalore on the first IT and we killed all 3 units.

I promoted our cat (the 2nd got promoted this way eventually, too) to CR & Accuracy and bombed away while the troops did some money making.

Then in 1430AD Asoka tried to reinforce the city with a CR LB and a Shock HA. I caught them in the open. Our elephant took out the CR LB and rather than risk a Mace against the Shock HA at 68%, I figured this was the better/safer choice:

Sadly he lost, but a mace finished the HA off.
On the same turn a great engineer, Cai Lun, was born in Berlin. He shouted "Super-size me!" so I obliged.

In 1440AD Gunpowder came in, causing a stir. We can now build 2-movement units. I built 1 thinking it might come in handing for pillagings.

Bangalore was defended by a CG2 LB, 2 reg LBs and a HA. I sacrified a scrawny Mace against the CG2 LB and then the rest of the troops mopped up easily:

Afterwards I dropped the units on the gem mine, and did some pillaging in what I thought were relatively safe zones. Also, note that Ghandi has Elephants:

Bombay was a little better defended: 2 CG2 LBs, and 2 Combat2 pikes.

In 1480AD Engineering came in and I turned us towards Chemistry. CR3 Grenadiers are not far off! We may want to consider shuttling forces back home for upgrades soon.

The maces were moving towards Bombay, and the Musketeer was going to pillage, relatively safely I thought. He moved north and pillaged the gems. But on the IT, Asoka planted a city to the south (both the elephant and the LB seem to be set as garrison), and then the Musketeer got ambushed: First a Horse Archer died against it, then a Mace died against it, and finally Asoka pulled one of the CG2 LBs to finish off the Musket. All of the sudden, Bombay is wide open for attack:

Again, I send in a low-exp mace to soften up the lone CG2 LB:

But this mace wins without taking a scratch of damage!

Bombay falls easily after that.

We have some caravels scouting out India for us. We spot a Greek knight and decide to spend our War Elephant against him. Our troops are too spread out and I don't want him to pick off a Mace. We pick him off at 75%. I've also landed our latest troops from Bombay besides Jaipur to assault it next turn. The town is freshly founded and will have very little defence (unless that CR2 LB moves in).

Chemistry is due in 5, and then we will have a lot of CR grenadier options. With that in mind, I've tried to round out the experience to get as many maces as possible to CR3. Likewise, I am trying to pillage as much as possible and "raze" money where I can find it.

Other highlights:

Sistine Chapel was built in a Far Away Land in 1470AD
Tokugawa is now in Beaurocracy
Mao Zedong is now in Theology

Not much else; Asoka doesn't appear to have too much left. Watch out for Greek landings, though, as the knight I killed was Greek. Consider upgrading as many Maces as possible when Chemistry comes in.

War on!

fanatastic job whipping the indian's a$$!

Abt CR mace -> grenies, I think we could afford to upgrade a couple or more, but not too many. We need to keep some money to continue our 100% research, plus now that we are starting to put troops out, our troops maintenance cost is going to increase.

We need to go harrass Alex a bit, can't let him become too advance.

Mark or Xtream is UP, if I don't see a got-it in 30 hrs, I may grab it :)

got it....

Nice work on India. I see that Alex is the next score leader. Everyone else is pretty far down. My plan is to upgrade to grens and take down Alex a bit. I think the key is to keep hitting the leaders so they are crippled. As for $$ after chem I will head up the banking line which will help.

1505: We get our 1st bit of WW so I start Globe in 4. Take out Japier and sink one of Alex's galleys with settler heading for newly open land.

1510: Pressing on against India.

1515: Delhi in sight. Should be doable.

1520: Nove next to Delhi. Alex adopts Merc so he has banking. He is next on our target list. Chem in -> currency.

1525: Globe in start WE. Delhi falls for the loss of 1 CR2 Mace get about 200 gp. Upgrade 3 CR3s to Greni.

1530: Loose an exposed mace on the IT.

1535: Send off a stack of 3 CR3 Gren, 1 WE, 1 Pike and 1 cat to Greece. Will need reenforcements. Building market. Currency->Monarchy.

1540: Monarchy->Feudalism.

1545: Johannes Kepler is born and joins the Parisan research team. Land on a forest at Thermopylae.

1550: We defeat 2 knights but I see our expensive CR3 Grenis are defending and he has some cats and a fair stack in Thermopylae so I decide to get back on the boats and link up with our main force headed toward Sparta.

I left Asoka with Madras. Some CR3 Maces are headed back for upgrade. I don't like the fact that our expensive CR3 Grens are defending against knights when I had a mounted promoted Pike in the stack. What is the point in making these if they don't defend when they have the best odds? Might build some mounted promotion Grenis for protection from knights.

Don't forget that we are a specialist economy. We will research just fine at 0% research. When I took over we had only 1 scientist hired and were working the water tiles. I think it is better to hire scientists and turn down research for $$ or even hire merchants or priests.

Ah, I snuck a temple in for Dehli and let it grow another pop. But then I forgot to stop letting it grow and re-hire the specialist once it hit size 11.

As for the mounted units, how long would it take to get to rifling? Or would we rather keep our two-movement musketeers?

Good job on hitting on the Greeks!

I didn't consider we are specialists research ... :smoke: so burning money away for CR3 grenies (even CR3 infantries if it come to that) is definitely doable! :hammer2:

I will wait awhile to allow Xtream a chance to grab the save if he wants to (and is cavailable, ofcourse).

Question: what is WE? You said "Globe in start WE" ...

war elephant. But I really think we should just build grenis and promote to mounted defense as they seem to defend anyway and I don't want to loose CR3 Gren to knight attack.

I seee ... why not pikeman ... (if it is still available). They should do decently against knights ... but I agree grenies seems to be better strength-wise .... they are all 1 turn builds, right?

@pindicator: we won't have any 2 movements units until gunship  ... we have no horses, so I would keep some musketeers around as long as the AI doesn't yet have grenies.
