[modmodmod] SOI expanded

Will there be anymore work done to this mod? Also why is Cyrenaica all desert? Is there any plans to include Medieval Greek history? Venetians for example?

I'm working on an update including map improvements.

I will fix Cyrenaica when somebody edits it in worldbuilder and sends me screenshots and/or a savegame file, preferable both

No new civs unless I can get someone else to do the dll for me - can you do dll?

Also - I'm having issues with city renaming in the new part of the map. When I upload the next version of the mod, could someone take a look at that for me?

Edit: Nevermind

I played this and LOVED it! well mostly for the fact that it was actually my first time ever completing a historical victory! :king: I carried on playing after achieving the victory on 1500 and this is what Middle east looks like in the 19th century!
ch5RqcG.jpg

I had stability around 80 before I decided to be adventurous and conquer Iran / march into the heart of Africa! :D
except for one or two of the late game wonders, which the Mughals stole from me, all wonders were mine! Armenians offered to be vassals and survived for a very long time. They basically did my dirty work by fighting the Ak-Kuyunlu and the Safavids. The Mamluks and the Abbassids can be countered with a combination of timely ceasefires and assassinations! With an empire of the size of Byzantine, you can do a lot with your spies. I actually managed to get both Mughals and Timurids to collapse merely by assassinations! (by the way, do the Portuguese ever collapse? I literally assassinated the heir every other turn, yet they were still around!)
So yeah I am not complaining but it felt weird! :goodjob:

If anyone's interested, I decided to go ahead and improve the map myself. I've scattered resources throughout Greece, the Balkans, and Libya, as well as making Cyrenaica quite lush (probably a bit too much), as well as adding independent Skopje and Plovdiv to represent Bulgaria. I make absolutely no claim that it is actually balanced in any way.

I also had to change the modpath in the scenarios file.

Sorry for the noob question, but how did you change the modpath in the wbs scenario file? I'm getting an error message right from the start saying "Mods/The Sword of Islam Expanded/ is an invalid mod directory". Like you, I renamed the folder from "The Sword of Islam Expanded" to "The Sword of Islam". But I don't know how to change the modpath in the scenarios file.

The mod you mention in the modpath must be the name of the mod in your mods folder. If you write 'The Sword of Islam Expanded' in the modpath, the name of your folder should be 'The Sword of Islam Expanded'.

So does this submod "just" expand the map to Greece or are there also new civs?
15 tiles to west(total useless, if my memory serves me, only one gold resource in new part), markets in all byzantine cities, 0 new civs:D

Yeah, basically. I added resources and couple more cities in the WB file 5 posts up, so that the cities were actually kind of worth keeping.

For some reason, Serbia is a border province for Kingdom of Jerusalem and Ayyubids. Is it supposed to be Libya instead of Serbia?

Thanks for doing that, DC123456789. I am downloading it now and looking at it. I made a version where the Byzantines got about 8 more cities, but that didn't work for economic reasons. I am going to try to improve it this summer, by adding UUs and UBs and UHVs for all the civs that were previously Nonplayer that I made playable.

After that I think I will add Unique civic victories. Since there are always 5 civics running at a time these will be easier than UHVs and URVs.

After that, I might try to add more civs, units, techs, wonders, buildings and maybe expand the map some more

Thoughts?

If you're interested in restarting this, I also fixed the provinces in my version (you had miscounted it or something, which meant you weren't assigning the right provinces)- I've attached the related files. The Maps.py file was too large, so I only included the province map and related settler maps. It would quite useful in the future if you plan to continue, I think. Note that I reorganized the provinces in the Balkans to my liking and also gave a bunch more border provinces to the Byzantines than they probably should have, so it will be a little different than what you may prefer. I also added city names to all the new tiles, which you will probably find helpful.

Thank you so much DC123456789. I have incorporated these into the mod and a new version is on sourceforge.

But before you uploaded these, I had already made some map changes thanks to veBear. As a result, would you mind downloading the new version and tweaking the citynames and the settler maps. I already fixed the provinces map. I also added Crete as a province.

I am still having problems with Morea showing up as a border province for one of the Egyptian civs. Can you please try to fix that because I'm really bad at that stuff? I would really appreciate it.

What's with the province "Constantinople" in the CIV4GAMETEXT_MEM_REGIONS?

I have somewhat fixed the Byzantine economic situation.
You are getting credit in the OP.
If you want to make any other map changes and post them here, feel free.

I think the Constantinople province is for mercenary naming, I really don't have any idea. I wouldn't remove it though, just in case it is attached to something.

I'll take a look at your new version.

Here's my proposal for the map.

I've re-added a lot of resources in Libya and the Balkans, as well as putting back in the hills and rivers in Serbia and Bulgaria that were removed in your version for some reason. I also basically added in my buffed Libya (perhaps a little too fertile actually), and I reverted Morea to its original shape (it looks better and more like the actual peninsula in my opinion). Regarding the cities, I removed Ragusa (not actually on the map and not really controlled by the Byzantines by this point anyway), Corinth (I thought it crowded the Morea too much, with Athens-Patrae-Mystras all tiles are covered with minimal overlap), Ochryia (Not a very important city, not firmly controlled by the Byzantines, and crowds Thessaloniki) and Heraklion (I thought that a city on Crete was kind of unnecessary, though I suppose you could make a case for it). I also moved Thessaloniki to more accurate position, and I may have moved Dyrrachion (mainly because I removed it, then on further research put it back). I've also added/made Skadar, Skopie, and Plovdivy independent cities to represent Bulgaria and the Serbian principalities. With less cities, the Byzantines will need less of an economic buff (i.e. markets in their cities); preferably their economic situation should be similar to that of vanilla SoI (i.e. slightly losing money at 100% gold at start, but with the means to lift yourself out before too long), I would think. I also reduced the culture of all the cities (except Constantinople) back to 5, which seems to be the standard for preplaced cities.

These are all just suggestions, use whatever you want and think will be best. I'll update the settler and city name maps soon, but given that the changes are rather minor it should be fairly easy.
