I don't think the Huns will be weak. However, I think their UA is weak.

But you probably defeat an AI's entire land army with a handful of Horse Archers and then kill their cities with two or three battering rams. I think they are the ideal early rusher.

No, it's much better this way. Austria should only have austrian cities
Hungary deserves to be included separately
Medieval Hungary (~900-1500) was way too important and historically significant to be left out
Not to mention the long-lasting Hungarian-Ottoman wars in the 16-17th century

The 3 most important left-out civs in Europe is Hungary, Poland and Sweden by far
Currently the game is too euro-centric, I agree that we need more civs from Africa and Asia
But I very strongly hope they will include those 3 separately in later DLCs or in a second expansion

Portugal didn't have a globe spanning empire for nothing, you know...

Ups, forgot about Portugal :)
I'm so sure that they will be soon released as a DLC (hopefully a double pack with Kongo), that I don't even count them to the missing civs :)

Having said that, one could argue that Hungary or Poland was more important than Portugal
I don't want to get into this, let's just all hope they will all be included eventually

While I don't think Hungary or Poland were more important than Portugal (although Poland is the closest), I do think they are more unique. Portugal's biggest problem is they possess an extraordinary similarity to Spain. While I can probably think of a different UA, it still comes down to the fact that either one could have the ability. Both end up as mercantile, exploring, semi-naval powers.

Well, one of the suggestions for a UA of Portugal is very different from Spain:

Unique Ability: Merchant Lane Monopolies. Researching Astronomy provides a free Great Merchant. The capital receives a bonus sum of Great Merchant points when another city builds a feitoria or when a mission for a city-state is completed. The capital receives a smaller sum of Great Merchant points whenever a city declares "We Love the King Day".

Portugal's greatest merit was about sailing beyond seas and leading the earlier time of Sailing ages(they were the first European civilization to get to Asia through sea) . Unfortinately, their desire to settle overseas was less than other European's Nation and they were pleased to occupy the Eastern South America and some areas of Africa .

I agree about the description there. I'm not sure how the UA fits that, though.

Also, it's not entirely true that they were the first explorers. After all, Marco Polo went to China even earlier and he's Venetian.

That's why I said they were the first Europeans to reach Indias Through the Sea . Also, there's a legend about a Navigation School founded by Henry the Navigator, usually known as "Escola de Sagres(Sagres's school)",which may be true or not . And unlike Spain, which decided to spread their domain overseas, with the excuse of spreading christianity,Portugal just wanted a Commerce route and occasionally found city overseas,if no one claimed to control that territory .

I'm pretty sure firaxis won't include 4 more european civilizations after this add-on, primarely because as you already said there already are just way too many european civs.
And i do agree that Hungary had a huge impact on european history but i just think that A-H would've been the better civ. The rivalry and cooperation between the two parts of the empire are really unique and would have also been a good basis for a UA.
And like i said there would be more ethinicites included which i also think is great.
Maybe I'm also a little biased because i just think that the age of imperialism is the most interesting period in european history. :p

Oh and also i think the Husar would've been a great UU for A-H but it's seems wrong too have it as a special unit for austria by herself since most husar were either hungarian, croatian or polish

Edit:
sry about messing up the quote haha
I'm new in the forum :D

Wow, the interest in the Netherlands has waned. And Austria has soared.
Poor Ethiopia, nobody finds them interesting.

The only problem with the pool is no multiple choices, I can't wait for Ethiophia, I consider their bonus to be one of the most unique, don't think there's an actually any other civ with a defensive ability.

But... but I find them interesting...

Austria is my second most-hyped civ though :D

BTW, I'm waiting for more info before I decide my most anticipated. I think, despite my reservations, my love for Carthage will win through, though (actually, my misgivings are due to my love for them).

That being said, I expect to play Austria because they look like they have an interesting ability, they won't give me a distorted view of the new features, and I've seen the leader and heard her language so I won't feel too bad not seeing her the first time around.

I can't wait for Ethiopia either. Obviously my Civ will always be the Maya but am excited for Ethiopia too. Have always had a love for its History, warfare, tradition, etc.

Haile Selassie was quite a cool leader as well. I did a 14 page paper earlier this year in my high school on the Hoare-Laval Pact and how Haile Selassie ultimately led to the resignations of the leader in france, Laval and British Foreign Sec Hoare and other members of Gov't. A ton of secret negotiations by France, England, and Italy were destroyed by Haile Selassie campaigning for support and his influence used in the League of Nations. The British and French had signed a secret agreement where Ethiopia would become Italian and in exchange the Italians would assist the UK and France in a future war against Germany.

But Haile Selassie had to ruin it for the French and British

But I think Ethiopia will be fun in multiplayer. I like running smaller empires in multi too and if the bonus works outside of my land as well (for having less cities) then I could use it to selectively puppet 1-4 cities for my growth.

Wow, the interest in the Netherlands has waned. And Austria has soared.
The previous poll came after a lot of info about The Netherlands had just been released. Now a lot of info came out about the Huns, Austria and Ethiopea. It doesn't take a lot to tip the balance.

Although it's fair to say lots of people are really interested in Austria's unique ability. I think it confirms the Civ community wants the game to be more than just a war game.

The Mayans are doing surprisingly well in the vote, considering the PAX didn't put the spotlight on them.

They hinted at the Mayans and that makes them mysterious and unique. It's driving interest in them at the moment.

Yeah, I think the Maya have the potential for being very interesting. That's why they're keeping that ability very secret.

BTW, since I voted in the last poll, I'll vote in this one. Last time I said Byzantines for religion. Now I think I'll say Celts for religion. I'll still probably play as Austria first, though.

I voted Maya, but this is a tough poll. To me, many of the newly announced UAs for the new CIVs seem way too gamey for my tastes. It will be nice to see new neighbors in my games, but only time will tell if any of the new civs will be any fun to play as.

Well this is a game after all.
