The Celts are still my most aniticipated new civ - though I like the look of all the other civs as well.

No one seems to be too interested in choosing Ethipoia. Austria has a huge lead. Ethiopia will have to be my Zulus until they come out. Many say Sumer should be the last civ. Hopefully they tells us tomorrow. I have changed my mind about Sumer perhaps they will be interesting. They were quite militaristic. First army to fight in phalanx.

Here is some interesting military info on Sumer. http://www.au.af.mil/au/awc/awcgate/gabrmetz/gabr0004.htm

Indeed, Carthage is as much a city state as Rome was (at least until the social wars).
Their UA is a free harbor in every city plus the ability to cross mountains once you get a great general.
The free harbor does not only automatically give free trade routes, but also every sea resource has an extra production from the get-go (provided the proper tech for harbors has been researched)

On archipelago and other maps with plenty of coast Carthage is a powerhouse.

The Maya have loyal supporters! While form the previous poll (Netherlands a leader) is now last place here. Tepid fans!

Veddy veddy interesting.... I'm glad I'm going to PAX today.

Thats great man. Have fun and let us know what you find out. :)

Voted Austria, simply because I think their UA sounds very exciting, and will make for some interesting strategies - marry the CS early for a quick headstart, or wait until it's developed for the extra science and gold?

It's a shame - I was looking forward to the Huns hugely, but then I found out that the one-city thing was just a rumour.

It wasn't a rumor, it was a speculaction.

One city just doesn't work within an actual game. Obviously there is one city challenge but the game isn't meant to be played that way. I don't know how you can consider yourself a playable civ if you can only control one major capital city. Many of the existing social policies would not work for the Huns on one city. Just doesn't work as a playable civ, but maybe as an aggressive military CS that could declare war outright. That wouldn't work either because CS's aren't meant to operate autonomously like that.

I now picked Carthage. I love seafaring civs - Carthage gets free harbours - and I'm also curious about how the ability to pass mountains will work out.

Voted for them too.

Oh and btw:

Voted for the Celts in the first round and will do the same this time. Definitely my most anticipated Civ. Austria with Maria Theresa and the City States absorption ability comes really close to Celts. :)

I must say all eight confirmed Civs look like really great Civs to play with; Netherlands Mercantile/Naval, Mayans Science/Culture?, Byzantines Religious, Carthaginians Militaristic/Naval, Celts Religious/Militaristic, Huns Militaristic/Production, Austrians City-States and not sure about Ethiopian gameplay flavor (perhaps Culture?).

I voted for Ethiopia

I was gonna vote for Austria but I'm kinda dissapointed that they picked the more habsburgian austria over the multi-ethnic austria-hungary.
Especially if you look at the cities that austria is gonna have now, it sucks that they didn't pick a-h
Probable City list is gonna be something like Vienna, and then what's the next one gonna be ?
Salzburg ? Graz ?
But with A-H they could have made a lot of other cities (some of which are now merely a CS) austrian. (Budapest as City #2, Prague #3, and then maybe Lemberg (Lviv) or Zagreb)

That way the Game (and Austria as a Civ) would be a lot more appealing for People of countries other than austria (Hungary, Czech Rep, Slovakia, Poland, Almost all of former Jugoslavia, etc.)

Looking forward to Austria and the Huns, since they've never been included in a CIV game before.

I'm quite surprised at the overwhelming support of Austria. Pleasantly surprised, that is :)

Ethiopians, one of the coolest civilization ever in my opinion (well before the communist revolution that is)

I even wrote a 40 page paper on their history for a college class I took last year

No, it's much better this way. Austria should only have austrian cities
Hungary deserves to be included separately
Medieval Hungary (~900-1500) was way too important and historically significant to be left out
Not to mention the long-lasting Hungarian-Ottoman wars in the 16-17th century

The 3 most important left-out civs in Europe is Hungary, Poland and Sweden by far
Currently the game is too euro-centric, I agree that we need more civs from Africa and Asia
But I very strongly hope they will include those 3 separately in later DLCs or in a second expansion

Portugal didn't have a globe spanning empire for nothing, you know...

I picked Austria.
The new ability sounds really cool, even if I don't know any of their other traits.
I really am not anticipating the Huns though.
They seem kind of weak, and the civ itself doesn't appeal to me.
