Music of NESing

It really depends. I do listen to some modern artists, but in all honesty, not really. Most of the stuff I listen too is from Musicals (RENT, Wicked, Les Miserables, ect) and it helps me get along. You also have your random video game sound-tracks (I really like the EU2 music..sue me >_>). I honestly get no creativity from modern music, although maybe a little, and even so, it's usually not really new stuff. Damn kids with their clashing sounds!

Arg, coldplay? Kids these days... I swear. What happened to the good old days of decent music?

Things like The Who, Beatles, Bob Dylan, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd (probably favorite), Queen, and so many others accompany me when I'm NESing. General classic rock.

The rule is- if its after 1990, it's (very generally) bad. Unless you like metal, in which case I hear theres still good stuff.

Are you kidding me? You, my friend, must have never heard some of this stuff. While I do acknowldge some of the oldies are good (I'm particually partial to Aerosmith, Queen, and The Eagles now and then), very few songs can compare with music today.

Have you actually even heard most of the bands I named off :]. If so, back away from the crack slowly and give it back to Ken.

In addition, I have a strange love for girly songs in addition to the normal classical and baroque period songs from bach, mozart, beethoven and a few romantic songs by heller and etc.

The girly songs are like Unfaithful by Rihanna, and Kiss the Girl by Tisdale

I think you're the wrong Panda........

The manly guys are those who aren't afraid of showing their feminine side. :p Of course, you are one to speak being a hippie and all ;)

All metalheads and weirdos. When will you listen to the uplifitng and everlasting beats of trance in the right state of mind and you will never go back!

Gah- rave is fun! I'm just not really into it unless the mood is right.

What, all I said was you were the wrong Panda (reffering to the name Insane, nothing else).

See! Guys think guys who like feminine songs are insane! Feminine songs are actually very interesting at least to me and provide a glimpse into the unknown mind of the female sex....

Egh- I was referring to "Unfaithful by Rihanna". I hate that song (dispite the fatc I have to listen to it nearly every day)

That song is one of the dumbest songs I've ever heard (assuming we're talking about the same song). If cheating bothers her so much, why doesn't she just stop?

That said, I am not opposed to girly music, but I'll keep my specific preferences in that genre to myself for now :p

Also, I must say I completely and totally disagree with everything this statement claims, says, and stands for and cite it as proof that the world is quickly coming to an end:

very few songs can compare with music today.

In fact, I would go so far as to venture that the vast majority of music today can barely compete with the "oldies," specifically guys like Jimi Hendrix or the Who.

I will also say (simply because its always an underrepresented category :p) that I'm partial to songs such as Come Heavy Sleep (the Original Emo), Tant que Vivray, Adieu ces Bons de Linnay, Ein Feste Berg est Unser Gott (I think I spelled it right... not sure), O Magnum Mysterium, Solo E Pensoso, and El Grillo (funny stuff; also, italian, not Spanish), as well as "artists" such as du Fay, Luther, des Prez, Tallis, de Victoria, Sermisy, etc, etc, etc. Chansons, chorales, lieds, etc, etc, etc.

Essentially, I like all kinds of good music, from all ages.

Concur with the general wrongness of aforementioned statement... particularly in the realms of Rock and Pop. For godsakes, when New Wave kicks your ass six ways to Sunday, you just plain suck.

Jesus christ, testosterone overload! You all listen to metal. I abhor the stuff (I suppose you all wear the band t-shirts aswell? :p).

Personally, I like a lot of stuff - though what most of you would probably deem effeminate (not effeminate as in pop-y, but just of a softer nature - I hate pop and such with a passion, and feel, that as a society, we have little taste). Currently getting a lot of play is Belle & Sebastian, Cat Stevens, Bob Dylan, Rufus Wainwright, Iron & Wine, Sufjan Stevens, Simon & Garfunkel, Elton John, Billy Joel, and of course, French music by such greats as Edith Piaf. I also like the contemporary french musician Yann Tiersen, who does beautiful classical style peices.

I share some of the musical taste of Josef, though he leans towards more towards the rock.

See! Guys think guys who like feminine songs are insane! Feminine songs are actually very interesting at least to me and provide a glimpse into the unknown mind of the female sex....

Oh god. No. Just, no.

Never heard the stuff? It's only shoved down our throats incessantly- be it in commercials or part of the endless drivel on the radio, or spouting from the idiots at school who carry around boomboxes (or just really loud ipods). I can say with confidence I've heard more than my fair share of modern music, and find it contains very little to no substance or originality.

I'm not saying there isn't some good stuff in today's music, but if there is, its managed to slip by me.

And don't get me started on how radio is dead and almost entirely useless, I can't even bear to listen to it half the time anymore. Take one more classic rock station and replace it with hip/hop or La Music Caliente! station and I might murder someone.

And what's all this talk of girly music? Has it escaped me as much as modern music has? Is there music designed only for women now? :p

And I agree that metal music sucks, its just too angry. I don't like angry music.

But anyways, as a sidenote, can we all agree that rap is the worst thing to happen to music since green day became popular? ;)

The Indie movement in Australia is BIG. Aussies love their Indie.

While I dont particularly like rnb or rap, or metal for that matter, when I am out at a bar a good indie set is always nice to sit back and drink a beer to (sorry to all those who are still underage)..

Aussie Hip Hop is not bad too, although I dont think anyone here might of heard it. Its less aggressive, less about shooting up crack dealers and getting with their hos while pimpin them out and so forth. That stuff just doesnt do it for me.... jazz, Classical even some Country is all good. Really if its good music it doesnt matter WHAT type of music in the end, ITS STILL GOING TO BE GOOD, sometimes you just have to appreciate it for what it is.

Unfortuantley at the same time the vast majority of today's music is overtly commercialised and this ultimatley detracts greatly from the musical quality that it tries to bestow upon the listener.

While I vastly prefer trance and all things electronica WHILE I NES, please do not think that is all I listen too, it just helps me write better and also allows me to be wildly psychotic in my nesing manoveurs.

Angry is Slayer. Then again, they only ever made one song! Zing. Hate that band. Really now, it's not that bad until you get into Death Metal or Black Metal, and that's mostly the territory of the Scandinavians (hey, it's true). Besides, would you rather listen to Emo or Goth? :p Most "Metal" aside from a few artists has been co-opted by "NuMetal" anyway, which is mostly just a bunch of 20 year-olds extoling faux angst of how their parents don't understand them.

Music in general has been dead since roughly 1991, with rare exception. Anyway, some other songs I like (probably far too much):

Styx - Mr. Roboto
Blondie - Atomic
Aneka - Japanese Boy
Gary Numan - Cars
Corey Hart - Sunglasses At Night
Men At Work - Down Under
Men Without Hats - Safety Dance
Boston - More Than A Feeling
Foreigner - Double Vision

... Yeah. New Wave and the 1980s really did just own all the Pop of the 1990s. I want to go burn Britney Spears et al at the stake now. Thanks guys.

Metal and Hard Rock stuff mainly. Todays music is a crap mixer compared to the good ol' days.

Out of pure curiosity, I ask you to listen to the next 3 songs and rate them. These 3 are all made during this "dark age" of music (90s and after) by same band, and I would like to know what do you think of them, are they just another failure of the modern music?

number one

number two

number three

and if you are interested in such music, I encourage you to visit here

I can see why people may like it, but I aint one of them.

I only listen to music from Computer games from the Total war series, Baldurs Gate, Jade Empire, Vampire Masquerade: Bloodlines.

Used to hate all kinds of music and consider it just annoying noise, so this is a pretty big step.
