Naps

My attempts at naps are always thwarted by either the fact I'm doing something important, or by insomnia. I only sleep for about seven hours a day yet during the day if I feel sleepy and even if I can I can't fall asleep.

I nap during summer school.

You can never tell if the kid with his hood on and his face down is napping or listening. :)

I have a very unqualified opinion on insomniacs.
I think they just don't drink enough alcohol and/or don't smoke enough pot.

This.

I wouldn't be able to take a nap even if I tried...

I have really short naps during my breaks at work. I look forward to them so much. But really, I need half hour breaks to get some true value out of it.

My favourite thing is when I finish my last work of the week (Saturday morning), is to come home and have a nap in the middle of the day before I start my weekend.

Never nap. I wake up and won't sleep again for 16-17 hours. Life is too cool to be out half the day.

I don't take naps regularly, but I do have a habit of taking them. I find that if I just sprinkle them in, when appropriate, it doesn't mess with my schedule too much.

Naps are best when taken for about 90-110 minutes, as I recall this more or less the complete sleep cycle. I've found that if I get up, after I wake from REM, I am more alert and less groggy than I am if I am interrupted at other times during the cycle.

Also, during my fall semester last year, I expeimented with a 4 hour sleep cycle every 8 hours. I think I've heard that Einstein and Di Vinci had done that, but I did it because it worked best with my classes. I found that I really liked it, when I kept to that regimen, and would have continued but my spring classes wouldn't have allowed it.

I heard there's an alarm clock that monitors your heartbeat, and takes your sleep cycle into account when waking you. That would be awesome for naps. Because as others have posted, I sometimes wake up very groggy after a nap.

Haha. My girlfriend was an insomniac when she met me, but when we'd talk on the phone and I'd play Civ IV it'd always put her to sleep. It got to the point where she'd actually call me and ask me to play if she couldn't sleep.

No shizzie.

Well, in lieu of that, I'd just say experiment with setting an alarm. I offset mine to two hours, instead of 90 minutes, because it takes me at least a half hour to fall asleep. Unless I'm trying to sleep somewhere besides my bed. I swear I can crash out in under five minutes just about anywhere else.

Sometimes when my daughter takes her nap I'll take one too. The bad thing is her naps can be anywhere from ten minutes to two hours, so sometimes my naps hurt more then they help.
I know what you mean, there's been loads of times when i've got up from a nap feeling like crap.

I never nap, I find it quite impossible for some reason unless I'm on the school bus in the afternoon or morning.

Thats when I just find myself nodding off.

The best way to do it is to open a book on your desk, put your elbows on your desk, an prop your head up with your hands. It just looks like you're focusing really hard on the book.

What's even funnier is to pretend to sleep, wait for the teacher to call on you, and then snap back with the correct answer!

My favourite naps are the ones on public transport. It stops weirdos trying to talk to me and I get to catch up on a bit of sleep before I get to my destination. I perfected it when I was commuting to and from London every day - I would be awake about 10mins before my station.

Its only failed me once *touch wood* where I missed my stop by mere seconds (wasn't quick enough to get up and the doors wouldn't open for me! Nooooo), but I had just finished a gruelling 2 weeks at work.

i rarely nap, unless on the weekend, and then only for an hour or so.
if im that exausted, i will shut down.
otherwise its just a dozing kind of state. half asleep, half awake.
i dont like it.
i will sleep when i die.

I HATE NAPS!!!!!!!!!

Such a waste of time.

I hate sleep too. :(

But as I said, they're good for when you feel crappy, and only time will mend the crappy feeling. I'd rather sleep while I feel crappy than sleep while I feel well.

How can you hate sleep? I love to sleep! Well, there's a lot of other things I love to do, so sleep often has to wait.

I love doing that too, but when I wake up, there are like five people staring at me.
