NDipNES: A Broken Dream

Shadowbound, you send orders until you're dead, that's the way it works. Pull out now and you won't be welcome back, ever. And your chances of surviving certainly aren't zero.

He should be allowed to pull out and be welcome, as long as he formally resigns, therefore letting everyone know that he's quit.

I'll have orders in a bit. Diplo never got a response...

Quit when you are losing, no.

Quit because of time, yes.

Well, if you're obviously losing, then playing this game isn't fun anymore, and fun is the whole reason we play these games. However, it depends on how badly you're losing. If a comeback is possible, you should keep playing. However, when defeat is obvious (2 or 3 territories left) then there's really no point in playing.

BTW, Orders sent.

I definitely couldn't disagree more. The whole point of playing these games is to have fun, yes. If there was some mechanism for your nation to continue playing when you leave, then yes giving up might be an option. But there isn't, and so you're destroying everyone else's fun by dropping out.

Signing up for a game of diplomacy is an obligation to stay to the (hopefully not) bitter end. It's as simple as that.

Well, are you really destroying everyone else's fun when you have two territories left? If you quit, then you get NPC'd, and if the NPC does anything, then they'd be just like a player, and wouldn't make a difference.

Then again, my opinion is a bit biased because I have limited time, which means I don't want to waste my time on something that's completely futile anyway.

I came from having two territories to 3 to 4 to 3 to 2, yet survived the game. I was picked as next to die, with 2 territories, and didnt. At all.

Lots of things can happen. If you move smartly, you can survive. Offense is generally stronger than defence, so if you counter its good.

Let me rephrase then: if you are obviously going to die next turn, then, and only then, can quitting be justified. However, my main point is that if someone quits, they better say they're quitting with plenty of time in advance.

Orders sent in really late. IB is exhausting and I keep thinking that I did things that I didn't actually do. :crazyeye:

@ Shadowbound: Playing on is good gamesmanship. It's only a game, so what if you lose? Just shake it off and try again the next game.

If you still feel strongly about your position, we can switch nations if you like.

@ Spline: You got a response.

Sorry. I'm using a new keyboard today so I keep hitting off keys every once in awhile. My normal Logitech G15 keyboard is allot wider and comfortable for my hands than this slim Compaq model.

Fall 2064

As the Quebecois troops scored victory after victory along the Atlantic coast, against a USECA command that had all but deteriorated, the Canadians saw their chance. Quebec itself lay open and fell without resistance, and New York was taken with a minimum of losses. Down south, Cuban troops managed to push into Mexico proper, wisely concentrating on one front. Louisiana was a calculated loss, and Mexico is still a very strong power, despite the loss of one of its core provinces.

How else do you think he was going to do it? LOL

No, you made the gross mistake of making yourself the easier of two allies to attack.

You WILL note I supported you to virginia.

Much appreciated. I call it trust.

Oh well, I'm sure that's going to get beaten out of me someday.

@Everyone Else- Keep in mind, if Canada conquers me, they've won the game essentially.

Of course not.

I only own 13/18? territories.

Oh wait, you have 6 left. Cool.
