Anyway, I think someone tried to make such a map, possibly in this very thread.
While we've already talked about it, Symphony, my initial efforts at Iron Age political cartography have reminded me once again of the great utility of the Dead Sea... Though I suppose that when you have the city map with Jerusalem on it done, that would help solve most related problems.

I've basically stated this outright previously, but I'll say it again: you have no particularly good reason to be waiting on me for your projects. Here's why:
If you really want, say, Roman era cities, you're best off making a list of the cities you do, in fact, want, and finding coordinates for them yourself. A few of them (like Jerusalem) may go back that far, but most of the world that'd be necessary for that (excepting China and India, really) is done, and can be looked up. I can, if you'd like, also zip up the text files I currently have for faster searching. Basically rather than waiting on me you should be doing the same thing I'm doing, only in miniature, since you really only need a couple hundred cities back then (both because there were fewer, and statistical data is sketchier, so it's more subjective anyway), instead of thousands, and that's really not too bad. Could be done in a day.
In short: you're not getting away with pinning this one on me.
You want accuracy, you have to do the work yourselves. Now, if you want to know how to do it, it's really simple, and I could explain it to you in about one of the above paragraphs. Takes no fancy software, just a bit of time.
- The city list I'm working on uses distinctly modern criteria.
- Unless you sit down and look at the list, and an actual map, it's very difficult to pick out what's what exactly, because of how many cities there are.
- More than half the cities become irrelevant by the existing standards (> 50,000) going back even a mere 50 years.
- The main purpose of the project is to produce a modern map.

On a similar note of the above, here is a city list I had been compiling, before losing the reason for finishing. The date is 1450, and the world is pretty much complete except for Persia-India region. Ignore the country names, as it was for an alt-hist and are not OTL reliable.

Do you mean the actual plotting of data points? Because I stated before that I would be willing to use a formula to enter them in, and you told me that I might as well give them over to you.

Plotting them does require fancy software, and for that you remain entirely dependent upon my monopoly due to your own collective lack of desire to achieve parity. Using a formula wouldn't have ever done any good anyway because you have no method of converting the result to a pixel point.
Should be fairly simple mathematically, if you're using a standard projection.

Not so much. Even once you've computed the points (which isn't fun, but quite possible--good luck doing it a few hundred times without some special math software though) you have no real means of visually accounting for the curvature of the meridians and circles of latitude other than estimation and intuition. On top of that, even if you should do that, the final twist is the central meridian is off-set to 12°E, further warping the lines. You have a few benchmarks you can measure it off of with borders but your accuracy has a CEP of probably around 5 to 10 pixels, depending on where it is you're looking.
If you were to do that you'd be better off just guessing, really. Saves you all the effort of running the calculations and is probably about as accurate.

Symphonic Style maps have been reloaded in PNG-8 instead of GIF, with savings of around 20kb on the blank map and 90kb (!) on the 2008 one. This puts them squarely in mid-300kb territory (they were nearing 500kb before new glow and file methods) and makes them probably usable by the public at large, I think. Northern Style maps actually benefit from being in GIF overall.

Does anyone have a NES map of post-partition India? With Pakistan. I've tried to draw it, but all mine end up looking horrible, so I figure I may as well copy from someone else.
