NESCraft III

In the night, as he sleeps by the warm fire:

Belgarion was a man.

He was a man who quivered, afraid and alone. He was a man who snuck through reeds and bushes, who jumped and hid. He was a man who was prey.

He shivered in a tree, naked and raw, as the deep yellow eyes of the tiger stalked his every movement. His weak hands trembled as he tied his ragged knots, but the tiger was calm. The tiger knew its strength, its powerful muscles shifting with sensuous grace. It licked its striped coat, biding its time from the comfort of the forest floor, knowing he had only to wait for his meal. The tiger was king.

And yet.

It was Belgarion who won the struggle.

It was Belgarion who became the hunter, who stalked his weakened prey, who gazed through the eyes of this regal beast as he slit its throat.

Belgarion takes its teeth for claws. He eats its flesh, and dons its pelt, and does not quiver any longer.

This land exists, and it has dangers; Belgarion does not fear them. Why should he? The tiger knows that he is strong. That is all that there is.

Orders:

1) I hunt the deer to the northwest, working in tandem with my new friend. She has already specified the strategy; I will stalk my prey, and wait for the moment to strike. I know that it will come. I will use my spear with rope.
(If success)
2) Butcher and skin the deer using my bone tools. Eat cooked meat (finishing the tiger meat) and tend to the fire.
(If failure)
2) Hunt ducks near the river; sneak up on unsuspecting ducks and harpoon them.
3) Taking the tiger's bladder (from the remains of its carcass), spread urine near our cave/camp to deter predators. Spread it close enough in that prey still wander through the general area.
4) Sleep (under linen blanket, snuggled up)

If possible try to place the stone tools in linen and tie the strings around, then I can carry a bag.

I like your idea about getting a greater line of sight, I'll formalize it into something that takes AP (so you're getting two bonus sight-lines from the mountain and the south-east isle).
Awesome

What do you think crab armour would be like? I ask because you have a spare 1 AP after all that you've described.
Morrowind chitin armor? Or maybe just crab claw boxing gloves? Actually, a claw knife would probably be kinda handy. I'll do that if you can't reconcile my inherently ridiculous idea.

Angst

1 AP: Seal off the cave with some wood, making a door or a barrier that only I can remove.
1 AP: Start a fire inside to warm myself.

And naturally, eat. Hope I don't die from the wounds. AP woo.

Mana: 1

Today you both set out for the river bend to craft a fish trap. Each of you works on a different part of the process, but together your combined efforts produce the sturdiest construction either of you have ever made. As you put the finishing touches to the project, as you both predicted, a predator descends on you – a jaguar. You are both armed, and fighting two versus one, and so beat back the jaguar handily – though Thomas suffers bruising from the jaguar’s charge. With the weir complete, you both spend the day fishing what you can. Unfortunately you learn that the fish in this river are incredibly small. Your weir’s net was of sufficient quality to nonetheless still trap a decent number of fish but despite the major advantage you gave yourselves, the value of these little fish is so low it takes twice as much effort than catching a regular sized fish to make a meal. The valley is clear of predators, and Immaculate heads home with both his own catch and Thomas’ catch so far to cook a meal for himself (as well as some colourful rocks). Immaculate has enough energy to throw together another linen sheet that he strings into a hammock between two stalagmites before getting an excellent sleep. Thomas continues fishing into the night, catching enough to feed herself too, cooking the meal back at the cave and eating it as the sun rises.

Status: Major Injury (2, crab cuts, bandaged, penalty to actions involving arms), Major Injury (4, shark bite, penalty to actions involving both hands), Minor Injury (2, sun burns, penalty to energetic actions). Hungry (-1 AP). Rested. Hot.
Action Points: 2 AP
Traits: Waterborne, Warrior
Inventory: stone tools (1), rope (1)

It is time to leave Crabbane Isle. To start, you try crafting a bandage, though due to your multiple conditions you find this difficult and produce one that is quite inferior. Next is the hard part, crossing the shark infested waters to the westward continent. You throw together a very quick improvisational bag with the rope and linen, and try to sneak off the island by leaving from a coast where you didn’t spot any sharks. As you get further from the coast, you don’t know whether they will come for you or when, and you try to simply outswim all threats – but you have a vision, and it seems a spirit informs you that they did all they could to mitigate the incoming threat but you will still have to face it. A single shark followed you, and “luckily” it seems only interested in a probing attack. The shark grabs you by your arm and pulls you under the water violently – you keep hold of you the rope to all your belongings but the simple knot doesn’t hold and the bag bursts open. You are in a struggle with a shark and punch it as hard as you can until it finally releases you. You spot the linen and all your tools in the waters, falling, and knowing the shark remains nearby, rush to retrieve something, anything, before you grab air and rush to the shore. You wash up, bleeding, and in enormous pain on your legs and arm and shoulders – you are close to perishing. You pass out. The next morning you survey the area, you're on the continent at the delta of a major river.

Everblack

Status: Major Injury (4, giant scorp sting, penalty to all actions). Hungry (-1 AP). Rested.
Action Points: 2 AP
Traits: Crafty, Warrior
Inventory: stone spear (5), atlatl (5), stone hoe (3), stone tools (3)
Stashed Nearby: cave fire

You wake up to a plains full of predators again. You start reinforcing your spear, improving it considerably. The hyenas approach your cave, but you see them quite clearly and feel more confident in this battle space – you are full of energy and repel the hyenas without taking even superficial damage. You get a strike into multiple of the hyenas that attack you, and you suspect that they would be much weaker in a subsequent fight – if you could pick one off, it would be easy prey. You keep working on weaponry, designing an atlatl for future combat, by which time you exit your cave to go to the river. A new predator approaches you, a gigantic scorpion, and you take a fighting pose. You try using the atlatl and do get a strike in, but you don’t exit the fight without a major injury – the scorpion’s huge stinger gets you on your hip. The scorpion moves on, and the surface damage is not the issue... you don’t believe a bandage would be helpful for this wound. As the day goes on however you feel a headache, swelling of the area where the attack happened, and a general lethargy – it seems that your body is fighting whatever the scorpion injected into you. You do some fishing by the river, and have no luck today – you catch nothing, despite hours of effort. You decide to head in for the night, but nature has one more trick to play on you. As you begin to sleep, smaller scorpions enter your cave – you jump awake and carefully remove them from your home, finally sleeping after a long day of combat. You feel like a Warrior now.

Together you both head out, tracking and hunting a deer in the north-west. You each try to get one either side of a small herd, hoping to isolate one, which you succeed in doing – you both have brief visions of failure in different elements of hunting this deer, and strange spirits seem to be aiding you. You both pounce and with your combined strength subdue the deer without any injuries, hauling it to your cave home. There, through collective efforts, you skin, butcher, cook, and weave, ending up with two pairs of shoes and finishing touches to the tiger clothing made yesterday, a linen blanket, and enough spare meat for at least tomorrow and one of you the day after. You both sleep, feeling warmer the next morning.

Angst

LzPO4at.png

The sun starts crawling upwards and you make your way toward the nearest cave. Exhausted and in great physical pain, you are vulnerable. You start gathering sticks, but there is little time to fortify your position before you spot the panther female from yesterday, here. Bad luck. You pull out your spear and prepare for another one of these confrontations… time passes, and the panther pounces. You try to dodge but not fast enough – the panther has you pinned. You strike with your spear but whatever damage you do you will never know. Its mouth at your neck, you feel great pain and the gushing of blood and then you feel nothing. And then you see nothing.

And then all you know is that although your avatar in this world is gone now, whatever essence that is you is still here. And then you see something… three scenes, somewhere else in the world. Which do you draw nearer to?

OOC: You can be reborn into the world. If you want to jump in immediately (assuming talonschild doesn't report back within 24 hours of this update) you can just take that character. Otherwise, you'll have to wait for one a turn for one of the couples to become pregnant and create a new avatar.

Status: Healthy. Fed. Well Fed (+1 AP). Hot.
Action Points: 4 AP
Traits: Warrior
Inventory: stone spear (2), sling (4), crab shield (3)
Stashed Nearby: fire

Your day of exploration begins with a stroll to the shore and then a swim to the south-east isle, which cools you down. From there you take your time surveying the wider area – the giant crabs moved here, it seems, and you see an endless ocean to the south. To the east there the main landmass keeps going, with more isles. Returning to land without incident, you hike up the mountain and at one of its peaks you get a view of the wider area in all directions – a coast that goes north, a large island to the west, and like you saw at the isle, an endless ocean to the south. With the rest of your waking day you try to create… crab exoskeleton armour… but this proves challenging and instead you end up simply making a crab shield out of the main part of your victim. Perhaps with rope you could fasten it to your body, but it also serves fine in your hand. You cook the last of your meat and sleep the night. You are awoken in the morning by a loud thunderous sound that seems to emanate from the mountain itself.

Certain of an imminent bear attack, you rally your confused friend to pre-emptive action. They seem dazed, their eyes looking into nothing, but they nonetheless start cooperating, bringing their spear and following you toward the bear. The two of you strike at it, and the battle is a fierce several minutes of dodging, spearing, running, and growling – the bear is enormous and will not go down even after numerous blows. It starts to retreat, but you do not give up – you and your friend take the rest of the day pursuing and fighting it, until it finally collapses. Dragging this massive creature to the camp fire is almost an action of its own, but you two defeated a mighty bear – with some harm. You both received injuries from its clawing counter attacks. Before the sun falls below the horizon you cut open the bear and both take some meat, cooking it by the fire, and eating for the night. It will still take a whole action to completely skin and butcher this thing, but you got what you needed tonight, and fall asleep. Having fought several battles with a spear at hand, Lord_Herobrine has become a proficient spearman and can expect to have multiple cumulative advantages in any combat where they are equipped with a spear.

OOC: @talonschild you have 24 hours to indicate you will be sending orders for this turn. If ya don't say you're good to continue, this avatar may be taken by someone else or, if there's no takers, evaporate.

Orders due for Thursday July 2nd!

Patch Notes

As per comments on Double A’s orders, there will be a new mechanic for expanding your line of sight. By spending 1 AP to exit your vision cone or go to a suitable point of view (the top of a tall tree, a mountain), you can end your turn where you want to normally but retain a vision cone that expands beyond the normal range, centred from the location you spent the AP to survey.

From now on clothing degrades when exposed to the elements – i.e. whenever you spend a decent amount of time outdoors or outside of your immediate home area (like hunting, exploring, etc).

Also from now on meat is perishable and will last two days after which it is rotten, unless preserved somehow.

Role-playing post request

Come up with in-game avatar names! We have some interesting languages developed, so I want to encourage folks to develop names for their avatars. If you don't want to commit to a language yet feel free to give an English translation of the meaning of the name (e.g. strong-as-tree, jaguar-killer, whatever), or to invent something that you'll eventually fit into a language.

I am the mightiest warrior!

Notes and free actions:
  • Avatar Name: Papa Grand-Crinière-Vert
  • Cook and eat fish.
    • If anyone shows up needing food and and I have extra from fishing in the weir, share it with them.
  • Share all resources, tools, etc, with Thomas.
    • Give the gold nuggets to Thomas.
  • When leaving the cave , bring the bola and knife (from my tools) and my satchel.
    • Protect myself with the bola and knife.
  • If Thomas is attacked, protect her.

Standard actions (edited in response to your comments below)
  • AP 1: Forage for natural bee bait (things like lemongrass, phlox, soapwort, honeysuckle, four o’clocks, forget-me-nots, jasmine, nasturtium, lilies of the valley, heliotrope, nicotian, peppermint, oregano, rosemary, borage, sage, thyme, catnip, chamomile, lavender, basil, marjoram, hyssop, and beebalm).(reference)
    • If Thomas forages for me for bee bait, then i will use this AP to build him torches instead (ie- trade actions). In this case provide Thomas with my satchel while he is out so he can forage with the ax in his hand.
    • If I am unsuccessful in foraging for bee bait with my first action, use a second action and abandon my attempts to craft beekeepers' clothes.
    • Store any extra bee bait herbs in the cave for now. Maybe i can use it later to spice up a meal or to expand the hives if i have any luck.
  • AP 2: Build a bee bait box out of wood and clay. (reference)
    • Use Thomas' ax and my stone tools.
    • Set it up as far west of south west as i can without spending AP on movement. I recognize that this is not as close to the bees as would be optimal but hope that by using a fragrant bait, i can increase my chances of attracting a swarm from further away.
  • AP 3: Fish in weir for supper for any guests who may show up.
    • Store any excess fish i may catch for tomorrow.
  • AP 4: Begin building my beekeeper's clothes (reference)
    • These consist of loose plant fiber pants and shirt with hood and sheer gauze to cover the face. Loose cloth clothes should also be optimal for keeping me cool in this heat.
    • If i need to spend 2 actions on foraging, then abandon this effort.
  • AP 5: Sleep. Cuddles?

@Ailedhoo Go west!
Life is peaceful there.
(Go west) Lots of open air.
(Go west) To begin life new.

I will make plans.

You got food? Do not forget to keep at calmness...

Tyger Tyger, burning bright,
In the forests of the night;
What immortal hand or eye,
Could frame thy fearful symmetry?

At any rate I will make westward, then together we can talk about fish (and those strange rocks I confess to have left on my first isle; we will need to make a plan once we group up)

1.Craft bandages using grass
2.Hunt for fish in river

Free Action keep fire going.

OCC: With these luck rolls I might be next to die :(
Also name for avater name: Sleeps-In-Cave

We have food, yes. That's a bit of stress we don't need to burden ourselves with.

1 AP) Make some torches, so that we may have light deep in the cave.
2 AP) Take the pretty stone with me, and walk back to the silver-lake. Pray that the spirits may grant us light in the darkness, while turning the golden nugget over in my hands.
3 AP) Cuddle up with immac in the hammock and go to sleep.

In the deep heat the to be competed in domination by hunger in oppressing the sea-born man. The figure who swam from the isle of boars and snakes to face their great trial on Crabbane Isle and to dance with the avatar of death that was the shark now faced the twin demons of heat and hunger on their most injured body, the sleep having recovered some sense to face a a challenge to their continued live.

The heavily wounded man stood up, the Sun continuing to oppress their flesh while hunger within began to growl. From the delta the tail of the shark still stalked the seas, reminding the traveler of their almost demise. The hissing of snakes reminded of the seaborn of their first retreat from a isle. The chatter of monkeys and the skittering the lizards came to attention of the sea-born man.

Then the figure turned and noticed the... orange... burning bright being with immortal hand or eye, which leads to ponder who frame their fearful symmetry. Then the tiger appeared to look with the fire of their thine eyes towards the stranger and began, whether in actual occurrence or from the twin effects of heat & hunger, to speak:

Death sees you
You see death
Heed the view
O sea breath

Heed the land: these woodland
Where your hunger's demands
Will go in hand to hand
With the oppressive Sun
To trial you Sea's son
To make empires of blood
As your wounded on this mud
Standing before my eyes
Are you to be judged wise?

I can judge you for flesh
Counter hunger afresh
As heat and your hunger
Mesh to harm you longer
Till your days go shorter
Till came the coming night
Last sight: my eyes burned bright?

Yet I who lord forests
Who sees scars on your wrist
Will be most merciful
Your hands stay workable
If you seek out the way
Where you will live the day
Westwards you must convey

You heed not whispers west?
Heed well: this be your quest
You must survive the Sun!
To have your days undone
Is to cast away will
To forsake the great thrill
That we both call live
To life you must now strive
To strive to the voices
To make your next choices

Heed the view
Hope anew

Your fate's guest
Now go west

After the tiger spoke the man began to listen and heed the voice of... he was unsure what these voices in the west that the holy fire coated beast spoke of and began to ponder, a pondering that competed with the cries of the wounded hands, the oppressive heat of the Sun and the songs of hunger. Pondering the figure who bested the giant crabs and survived the shark now pardoned now to survive the forest and to reach westward to where the voices the tiger spoke of be.

Orders

Since geographically I am east of two fellow survivors I will focus on reaching westwards and to my survival.

I have 2AP, my tools, some string and a surplus of problems.

Primal focus: avoid the wroth of the tiger. If the tiger decides I am to die then it is most likely I will die: to survive I must avoid the forest lord who burns bright in the night.

Action One: go west to the zone off-map, where I am likely to find two fellow humans. To avoid the tiger I will have to chance going between the monkeys and the kangaroos. Focus on engagement avoidance.

On route: pick up a stick but only if safe, for I cannot afford the bites of a snake, the kick of a kangaroo or the cruel pranks of the monkey.

Objective is to end with meeting Immaculate & thomas.berubeg so they can heal me and I in turn can grow to be stronger to be able to help them as a waterborne warrior.

Action Two hence will be to sleep and rest to help recover from wounds.

Accept and eat any food provided so I can counter my hunger.

Edit Additional: since there is a caver with the figures be sure to make sure to give shelter from the heat of the Sun for when I sleep.

Secondary Additional: I am considering the name "Listyr" or "Fish Spear" for my avatar.

@Immaculate
1) a beekeeper's hood + body clothing would be 2 AP yes
2) I like your plan, you'll need to go west outside of your vision cone to be close enough to bees to be able to bait them, but otherwise looks good to me. If you put the bait box within your area it'll be pretty low chance of it working

@thomas.berubeg
btw you haven't told me you plan to do anything with your mana point yet, you just saving it for now?

Lord_Herobrine:

Avatar Name: Spear-Walker

1)
Harvest the rest of my kill 1 AP
2)
Craft some bandages to dress my wounds. 1 AP

3) Despite the bravery shown by my companion in the fight, he has retreated back into himself, and I fear that his mind and body grows weaker by the moment. With the injuries he sustained by our attack I doubt he will last the night. For the world to lose such a soul without grace is a travesty, he was the first creature that I have come across that seemed an equal, not even the bear held the potential that he had. In mourning of his passing I will honor his soul in ritual.

I will take my action to gather the wild grasses, flowers, seeds, and even silk from the nearby worms to create a wreath that I will place around his shoulders while he still lives. After his passing I will take the wreath and wear it, may his soul live on through me and my adventures. 1 AP

4) Meditate on the passing of my companion through the night. 1 AP

^ soul vampire.... we were all thinking it...

Name: Baioreznomat (he who walks as the striped beast)

3) Make a Pickaxe from the sticks and stones.

4) Worship the effigy, performing around the smoke of the fire to please the mighty Thenron. Sacrifice some deer meat.

5) Sleep.
