NESLife 4

Is this still going?

NWAG, please don't make such an awkward and annoying bump to the thread. Now I guess people will check in to the thread, and they find these posts. It would have been nice if the update had bumped the thread, as people would expect.

We've already posted about this in WWW, or you could've PM'ed me. You better learn to deal with uncertainty, especially in my NES, and the fact that people get involved in uni projects and RL stuff and yes, procrastination too. That doesn't mean that they abandon everything forever.

EDIT: Disclaimer: hungover and missing sleep. Also me and NWAG have had many such 'wheres the update' / 'you didn't update when you said you would' conversations before.

Its NWAG, what do you expect, best do as the rest of the community does and either put him on ignore, or simply avoid his posts...

NWAG has asked before... he just asked here as well. NWAG, please, exercise some patience. :)

When I exercise patience, NESes tend to end up dead. At least when I agitate people realise it's dead (plus the about 1% of cases where they actually update).

No, you're just a pain.

I have three things I want to say.
1) Honestly, Daftpanzer should probably have made a public statement in this thread, since in all technicalities, one can't know that information about this NES might exclusively exist in WWW. It's not written anywhere in this thread I think. Note that Daftpanzer is always a quite pleasant person and that he edited an afterthoughtful disclaimer into his post. I think it would have been a better choice for Daft, but his time is very limited at the moment, so he is easily forgiven in my eyes. Especially as he is as awesome & nice as he is.
2) Dogpiling a user is never a good idea, as everyone should feel welcome, even if they annoy people. Mods should handle bad posting habits. Not the NESing mafia.
3) Regardless, stop posting in this thread please until Daft does. I know I am doing it, but it is after 8 posts of nonsense and I thought of these things after the first two, so I'll take a hypocrite hit for the team. And NWAG3, when people act this way against you, the best way to save face is not to reply, especially that's what people think of you. I'm pointing you out because after all, it was you who bumped the thread, and you still have part responsibility of this mess.

Now, can we get on with our lives and let Daft finish his exams so that he can continue his brilliance? We must bathe in his glory.

1- If there's been a misunderstanding about what time his final exam was, probably right.
2- I don't care about dogpiling.
3- I care about winning the argument more than saving face- as I understood it, Daftpanzer had already gone through his major exam anyway.

You know, I actually defended you, but now you're attacking me, so now you're on your own.

... Damn, I really need to cement this, I'm sorry about further cluttering of the thread Daft. Should we let things go on in WWW?

We should.

Archaeoblobus -> Archaeomovre
Additions: These cells are able to move independently of the ocean waves and currents, to follow the sun's rays. Interestingly enough, this has created a migratory instinct, following the sun and it's rays. Also having developed two net-like "arms" on it's underside, it allows to to catch small morsels that pass by it.

In terms of it's preferred environment, the Archaeomovre is generally not specialized to live in only one type of aquatic habitat. They have a migration pattern however, which is they move to the more polar regions when the sun is the strongest and move to more equatorial regions during the colder months.
Subtractions: Complete dependence on photosynthesis.

Gentlemen,

This has been on my mind frequently, and I apologise again for this typical Daftpanzer situation.

Looking at this again, it already got pretty tangled up in the first couple of turns. I simply don't know enough about microbiology to mod something like this confidently, except to skip through the 'cell stage' very fast.

I do have a lot of time now, but my preference would be to restart rather than continue. I am thinking of running two NESes concurrently (eek). One is the advance-wars style, civilization style, risk style game, beggining on an alternative pre-historic earth, that I have been talking about with Thlayli, Luckymoose, Iggy and others. The other game is some iteration of this (NESLife), and I have two main ideas about that:

  • Continue this in the same format, but with a simplification of the current situation (fewer composite multi-species lifeforms etc), and fastforward into bigger forms of life.

  • Run a fast-paced (in terms of evolution time between updates) 'Spore' NES that goes all the way from a solar system formation stage (you may remember this planet formation game I ran last year) to civilization stage with one or more sentient species. Where you will have input in everything including the creation of planets themselves, and although only one may harbour complex life, the others may be colonized by spacefarers at the end of the game. Planet stage -> Cell stage -> Creature stage (on an ever-changing world map) -> Tribal / Civilization stage (where evolution slows and the map is mostly stable, but you control tribes / nations).

For the other NES project I mentioned, I've started fleshing out prehistoric flora and fauna in advance-wars pixel style, I am getting more confident with that, and I think I prefer it to the Flash style drawings I made in this thread and in NESLife 3. I find its a fun and forgiving style of graphics, easy to edit existing things to make new ones. What do you think??

Thoughts/opinions very welcome, thankyou for your epic patience :salute:

I like the second one.

Both sound good to me. Nice artwork.

Well I am always here if you need help on the biology side of things.

Other than that, any graphical style is awesome! If you think it would be easier, jump to small animal size (like we did with the dibbler/nibbler etc?)

I don't mind if this one folds, we havn't had enough evolutions for me to get so attached to my creature. But please, please get a NESLife, in whatever form works for you, up and running again! :D
