NESLife attempt #3

Got two ready- hopefully at least one will be good.

Nitros Warus: NPC
Evolved from: Nitros Intrepidus
Role: versatile, swimming lithovore
Habitat: underwater mineral-rich sediments
Genes (16): Mineral Eating x9, Swimming x2, Smelling x1, Pressure Resistance x1, Heat Resistance x1, Fangs x1, Poison x1
Description: The Nitros Intrepidus was struggling to survive, competing for a home against more advanced species. However, eventually opportunity knocked. The Deathscaper was killing rival plants, but was no match for it’s new foe. Venturing out into the deep, the Nitros Warus found a new home…

Water Eater: NPC
Evolved from: nothing
Habitat: warm shallows
Genes (3): Water Eatingx2, Disgusting Tastex1
Description: The Water Eater taps what few nutrients are in water, and converts them into energy. It is practically defenceless, except for it’s disgusting taste.

Filter Feeding perhaps?

We have Mineral Eating already, so I thought Water Eating might be acceptable.

@Neverwonagame3, I'd agree that if you're taking minerals etc from the water, it basically counts as 'mineral eating'. Hope thats OK... I don't see a need for a distinction. Most of the 'gene' catergories are meant to be wide-ranging, its messy but it avoids having thousands of unique genes, which would be a nightmare when it came to comparing different critters with each other etc...

By the way, Daft, when do you want evolutions in by? I haven't really put much thought into what I'm going to evolve yet, sadly. :(

By the way, Lord_Iggy seems busy with RL stuff at the moment, so don’t expect any of his uber evolution charts anytime soon. I might have a go at some smaller ones of my own at some point, with the species pics included.
I'll update my master chart sometime this week, and then post on request.

Well, I haven't really started the drawing yet... too busy with Civ4 and my other stuff. I'll think about a deadline when I'm nearly done with the drawing, which is likely to be a week at least :)

I guess the last update will be a lot of work, with the number of new species added. Please don't feel like you have to work on it or anything... I think you've done more than enough already :D

And what? So he can fall behind? :joke:

Anyways, I will be looking at making a general all continant species: remember, they can still swim! *Weeeeeeee*

BTW Daftpanzer, theoretically could I give the Efficent Scaper Water Retention and have it act as a lithovore on land? North King's comments about the Bathyscaper eating water seem to suggest not.

The Linescapers- A History for Dummies- Chapter 1
The first ancestor of the Linescaper worth looking at is the Killerscaper. Beginning the evolutionary movements which would make the Linescaper famous, it began slowly utilising it's roots to crawl around, attacking other lithovores to make room for it's offspring.

At this point, it's claws were very pathetic, and a strike could not even be assured of doing damage. But after settling into posistion, the Killerscaper could continously attack until eventually it suceeded. It's goal accomplished, it could then return to posistion.

Scientists are uncertain how the Efficent Scaper made the evolutionary leap that created the Killerscaper, and it is used by many as an argument for intelligent design. However, the counter-argument is that this was a one-in-a-million occurence- throughout the long time it took Falciria to develop intelligent life, inevitably something like this would happen somewhere.

Whatever caused this improbable leap, it would lead to an evolutionary advantage that would create a dynasty...

Cool stuff, actually I was thinking about an NPC evolution of your efficent scaper that lives in caves etc above water (or flooded caves). If it has 'water retention' we can say it gets its minerals from its 'roots' or whatever part is touching the rock/soil.

That would be a pretty huge leap from the Scapers of old, and I think there are other creatures better suited than them to make the jump.

What do you think would be better? I guess there could be an evolution of burrowing zeeboos or something, but all the Zeeboos have so far had some reliance of photosynthesis.

Torpedo Aquarora: Sliver Slave
Evolved from: Aquarora
Genes (37): Complex Stomach x1, Flesh Eating x3, Lungs x4, Vibration Sense x1, Eyes x3, Swimming x6, Feathers x3, Jaws x2, Cartilage x1, Skeleton x2, Cold Resistance x2, Oil Glands x1, Brain Power x1, Parenting Instinct x1, Plant Eating x1, Live Birth x5.
Genes gotten rid of: Talons x2,
Description: Faster than the its ancestor, then torpedo aquarora is an obligate predator, eating only meat.

Could you make an npc species of filter feeding aquarora?

Yeah, yeah, self serving, I know.

OOC: Lord Iggy had civilisations existing in space, so I think the precedent is open.

A Planet in Space
Kira looked over the mysterious planet. It had been a long time since the last civilisation- over a million years, it was claimed. For some reason, Kothora (as it was currently called) had never been touched.

Currently, the planet was unstrategic and part of the Nature zone. The Hokamites insisted on leaving the whole system untouched, on the basis there was a decent chance of a new sentient species. The other powers didn't agree, but couldn't be bothered fighting a war over such a minor issue.

But it was still mysterious- why on earth was this particular planet untouched for so many millions of years? Archeological evidence suggested five galactic civilisations at the absolute minimum, and that wasn't counting ones that existed at the same time. So why was this planet, as most scans suggested, never touched?

It was probably an error- the scans were, he was told, 95% accurate, but something mysterious like this was bound to happen eventually. But still, scans were perpetually showing the same results over and over again. Reasonable people called it a one-in-a-million error, or a textbook case of the unreliability of scans from outside a system.

But, suprising as it seemed to the layman, these scans were highly accurate. Why on earth did this anomaly exist, they said? Conspiracy theories had grown up around it, postulating things from a government coverup to the planet Kothora being God- and that was just the sane ones.

It didn't matter, anyway. The Prime Directive around this planet was about to be broken...

The funny thing is that the aliens are just as unaware of the penguins et al watching them as those on the planet are aware of the aliens...

That could actually inferfere with my plot- I'll have to spend time wearing down their humor value...

EDIT: Made some alterations.

With the Penguins
Von Dunkelheit waited slowly, as his transport docked into the invisible space station. This place wasn't known about to most of the galaxy- only the real powers of the multiverse had any idea it existed.

The door opened, to reveal his host. A young prodigy, with skill levels his academy mates could only dream of, a man of boundless ambitions...

"Von Dunkelhike, is it?"

The man sighed. "Yes. Yes, I am Von Dunkelhike."

It seemed the creature he was talking to was completly oblivious to the sarscasm. "It's good of you to come. We have some reports on Sector 7."
"Sector 7? Unlikely- we have a truce there. All interference can last for 100,000 years tops."
"These guys don't belong to any of the Powers. They don't follow our rules."
"Hmm. So what do you need me for?"
"If they get away with this, we can kiss peace in this sector goodbye. I think I can do it, but I need you to make absolutely sure..."
"Understood."

He thought for a second. If his hunch was right, this would be more difficult then he thought. "Yes- it's dealt with. I have a plan..."
