I started researching fishing and knew nothing about fishing. Now the barbarians raided my capitol and now... i know even less than nothing? ;)

Basically they taught you some crazy voodoo that was supposed to be fishing....but its complete crap, and now you have to unlearn what you know to get back on the right path:)

Playing a rather tall Poland and the new happiness system seems easy (especially with the luxury).

It seems to me that even playing wide would not really have a negative happiness.

Why so convoluted?
Clearly, the barbarians killed your researchers and burnt their papers.

cuz they already knew nothing ie there were no papers... not to mention papers are a space-age future tech from their perspective.. going backwards from zero, as it appears.

I bet the barbs stole their kids and taught em the best fishing was on land, so they could have all the ocean fish to themselves for a generation or two

Researching something like fishing in order to provide for a country can be viewed as something like getting together already existing practices and creating state cooperation. Having anything to research at all implies existing knowledge of the concept, so going negative can be viewed as killing those who propose implementing such things.

At the moment barbarians are like suicide squads, running into my cities, blowing themself and parts of my city into the space.

But why would barbarians specifically raid cities in order to kill people who want to learn how to fish? Do they really hate fishmongering menaces to the world?

Nationwide interest in fishing is through the roof! Fishermen have been appealing to their local lords for improved market access(or whatever). The barbarians hear about new stored delicacies like rotten shark and raid the enterprising fishermen!

I was curious where we stood with the barbarian city attack scenario? I didn't see it on Github anymore.

Hey, um... I was just thinking about how nutmeg, cloves and pepper, being full tile resources, and attainable to other civs via conquest, tile stealing and GA bulbs makes them much more prominent in VP. It makes the Spices resource look funny.

With @HungryForFood adding Vanilla, Saffron and Ginger as more resources, it's getting pretty silly up in here, to have 4-7 different spices, and one of them is just named "spices"

So, while I don't want to make this a huge deal, I think it would add a bit of polish if "Spices" was renamed to "Cinnamon", since that's the spice depicted in the icon. Perhaps HfF might be interested in renaming it in his own ExCE resource mod, but I think it's an equally valid change to be made to base VP.
