New Promotions: 100x100 avatar and 300 PMs!

Well see it like this. If you make it to 300 days and 300 posts (or whatever it is) without getting banned, you have earned it. ;)

And you can hardly call someone a spammer if he posts 1 post per day for 300 days. :crazyeye:

It was my fault. I didn't set the permissions correctly for the HOF/GOTM groups. Should be fixed now.

Oh no, it was my fault for ... doing something or other. Your great and benevolent self can never make a mistake, master.

No really, TF, I think I spend so much time here if you did close up I'd have to go get a real life.

Hence I think that rewarding people based on how long they are on the forum or how much they post is rather foolish. They should be rewarded based on their real acheavements instead.

Those two things are the only universal objective measures we've got. (Demogame or HoF participation or whatever doesn't even account for all the Civ posters.)

What about us uploaders? :mischief:

Works for me! Thankyou :D

I disagree with you. Adding smileys to your posts strenghten and support the things you were saying, while animated avatars don't add nothing to a debate, they're just distracting and nothing else.
I saw many Internet forums which allowed them, but IMO there was no good in them.

How else are you supposed to show emotion on your posts? that's why there called emotions, now they have things called 'smileys' which just wastes space and drives the veiwer away form the content as bagel had said.

I like 'small' smileys, scroll up this page and take a look how many smiley'es people actually use, it is maybe 1-2 per post (if you include signature, then 2-3 per post). Flooding your post with different smileys is annoying, yes but in average use in this forum smileys are not 'over abused'.

I do dislike "animated" gif files as avatar, those things sure are annoying and gotogether with warez-boards and spam-boards. CivFanatics has quite good moderators and 'looks' and 'contents'.

There's nothing wrong with animated avatars, as long as they're not eye-hurting or otherwise inappropriate. Several of my forums allow those, and we are NOT into either spam or warez, thankyouverymuch.

Problem with only allowing certain animated avatars is that now you'd need someone to screen them and decide which ones are allowed and which ones not. For a forum of this size, thats not an easy job. Easier to just completely disallow them. (Thank goodness too, when im reading I dont want something moving around on the screen competing for my attention )

Add my voice to the people who would rather not see animated avatars. I even think that sigs are pretty much useless unless people have a legit thing to promote. A lot of them are too big.

I like my websites as humble and classy as possible.

Would it be possible to allow .png files to be used with the forums, and not just .gif or .jpeg's?
