Nintendo Wii

Revolution was a better name in every single way. I dont know why they changed it to something that crappy.

Wii - pronounced "We"

The official name for Nintendo Revolution.
I think we have a candidate for the worse product name, ever.

"What are you looking for sir?"
"I'm looking for a Wii."
"The toilet's over there."

They're combining the all-encompassing praise of Windows Millenium Edition, with the hint of Francophilia that Americans just can't get enough of.

This is going to be up there with the foreign sales of the Chevy Nova...

Isn't it the console with the funny controler?
Maybe Nitendo has found some way to make profit by deliberatly keeping sales figures low.

It's quite funny. I just had a quick look at the Nintendo usenet groups. Their reaction was...exactly the same as ours. Now, if even die-hard Nintendo fanboys are going "Oh my God." I think the Big N is in a lot of trouble...

One message was especially funny as it pointed out that a lot of the new games that come out from Nintendo will probably have names like "Mario Wii", "Pokemon Wii" etc.

It doesn't matter what they call it. As long as there is a Mario and Zelda game planned for the console, people will buy it.

They could call it the Nintendo HitlerStalin and people would buy it if Zelda: Save the Princess Again was a release.

It's not that bad a name, and makes good sense with the advert.

Shame the advert will (almost) never air on television, judging by Nintendo's advertising track record. ;)

I dont know Zelda isnt as fun as it used to be.

IMO windwaker was way to short and lacked exploration which made zelda games fun.

If zelda games used rpg concepts such as "leveling up" and "abilities" i think it would be way more fun.

I don't like the name very much. "My father is playing with my Wii!"

It definitely won't stop me from buying one though. It's really the only one of the new consoles that interests me in the least.

Wow. This is so insanely stupid it almost seems like a ploy. Between the idiotic new name and the gameboy-esque controller (One-handed, with one d-pad? They've abandoned shooters??), it's pretty obvious that Nintendo's giving up on the lock they had on the youth demographic and going straight for the teletubbies crowd. ;)

(Also, I don't see how you can see that name and not instantly think "World War II", but then again I guess I'm probably too old for Nintendo to care what someone like me thinks anyway. :old: Kids these days! ;) )

They have a normal controller also but i do not like the direction nintendo is going in.

I mean the main appeal of the revolution is to download and play older games for a price.

  I can already do that for free off the internet.

They should have kept the Gamecube.

This is so stupid. I thought the title for the thread was "Nintendo World War II" or something. Also, the controllers look really ****y.

As long as they have Mario, LoZ, and of course, Star Fox I may still buy it.

Don't be surprised if the Gamecube is remembered as the last great nintendo game.

Maybe you should actually read about the console before criticizing it. I'm not sure you could be more misinformed if you tried. Read about this game "Red Steel" and then tell me they are abandoning shooters.

I agree it's a dumb name for a console though.

Thanks to the Revolution controller, aiming with precision on both horizontal and vertical axis is easily doable. You can look up, down, left and right very quickly, meaning that movement is far more lifelike and accurate. For the first time ever, the controller does not limit your movements, it is your own ability to react and shift your arms/fingers that will see you succeed in this title. Essentially, you aim and shoot as fast as you can physically move to do so. Aiming is done with the main controller and movement is worked by using the nun-chuck/analogue extension. You fire weapons with the trigged on the underside of the controller, so everything is nice and intuitive. You can also hurl and roll grenades, this is done by moving the controller in the appropriate way (a throwing motion to throw, a rolling motion to roll).

** edit
I forgot to add, how can a controller that is fully spaitially aware be compared to a gameboy controller? Why would you need more than one D-pad? It senses twisting, tilting, raising, lowering, depth from the tv and you can aim it like a laser pointer.

Sorry, fishlore - I'm at work and hadn't had time to read much. I'd just seen the remote-control-style controllers, and hadn't realized they were alternate controllers or something. No offense meant. I just miss 8-bit, two-button RPG's I guess. ;)

Oh, no offense taken. No worries.

What were they thinking! The Revolution was a great name considering the excellent controller idea. Does it even have a meaning or a reason? Please tell me that the US release is still named Revolution, cause that's just dumb.
