No Free Speech If You Talk About Me

He would not have been able to get on the plane without a passport.

Even if he used his US passport to get into the country he would have come to the attention of the authorities when he used his Thai ID card.

it all becomes irrelevant then , visa, passport or the id card ( they are all the same to me, maybe he even had a travel warrent ) he was still fast tracked by the Thai authorities on entering the country which was my point

or maybe he blogged in thailand which would make the whole thread irrelevant, but then some leeway should be given to points made by people as no one is informed of all the facts...( like if he even had a Thai ID card) ;)

He did something completely legal and then went to a country where it is illegal.
It's basically the same as.:
- German police arresting a Dutch citizen because he smoked pot in Amsterdam.
- American police arresting a German tourist, because he let his at the time underage son have a beer at Oktoberfest 2003.
-Saudi Arabia arresting an American woman on vaction because she had pre-marital sex, drank alcohol, and drove a car in America.

This is unacceptable and should cause an international incident.

This. He didn't break this particular Thai law while in Thailand. The question above, as to whether the Thai law is written to apply to Thai citizens when they are outside of their nation, has gone unanswered.

He went home to Thailand to get medical treatment because as a citizen he could get cheap or free treatment. But to get treatment he would have to show his Thai ID card.

No he would not, people from many countries go their for cheap medical treatment, they even run plastic surgery holiday packages and Dental is very popular as a medical holiday, Mexico also caters to the USA, guess he just choose the wrong destination

if you think Thailand has a UH system ... Western charities operate limited service's for free, but they don't cater to US tourists tho
