Nothing to do... Post a game!

I just own all of Northern Europe, assuming Liz doesn't get in the way.

 Liz can't get out of her own way. She'll have London defended by warriors for the next 500 years while she tries to build the mids. Rome is the only real challenge left.

It's fun playing Russia when you DON'T rush Europe and try to spread as wide as the real life Russians have. Rushing Europe sucks. Might as well play two levels above your own when doing that.

I know. I know. I wish I hadn't rushed Freddy. I should have stopped with Hamburg. I should've stopped at Berlin. I should have at least stopped before Paris, because now it's a given I'll have to kill Rome and Greece. Oh well. The showdown with China will be interesting.

Sory for the hijack, but I was inspired by your start to try my own Earth 18 Cathy game. I went barbs on and huts off, but still Emperor.

REXed eastwards early on, rather than rushian west.

Then:

Yes, that's Alex declaring as well, on the SAME TURN. I'm gonna play on and see what happens. Axes against Alex and Spears against Genghis. Perhaps Louis and Freddy will come and beat up on me too.

[I've got 11 cities which is why I don't have Alphabet yet...]

Love the game. You've actually inspired me do my own game :D

I think think that slowing down and just cluttering modern Russia with half-decent cities is a good bet now. Should easily secure the game for you.

No-one interested? Forum dying?

I might cancel the game. There seems no point in this.

Because I'm Z0MG mean!

Round 2: Rebuild (1875-470 BC)

In this round, we karate-kick everybody in sight.

So, the main objective of this round is not to have an exciting round. This round is all about the build-a-blocks, and as such, I haven't many screenshots. A forest fire here, a self-destructing mine there. No, the first thing of interest is this:

So you'll see a couple things here. First, I got writing. Yippee! Libraries are being built for precious scientists. Second, we're pretty well the first to it. Not a super tech rate on Emperor, eh? Third, we found that good city and block off Cyrus from anywhere north of Iran (hooray!) He still manages to get to West Siberia though. Fine. Have it. I'm interested in North-East Europe myself.

Next, this:

Uh-oh. Do not like. How did he get Alphabet like that? Where is this research land that he's making this off? Mesopotamia I suppose. Darn. We will bury him.

I can't remember if I gave it to him or not. Does it matter? He's Cautious either way. And the bonus (or demerit) wore off by the end of the round- and he got Bronze Working anyway. So this was one of the few things that had absolutely no effect on the game. Except that he has Alphabet. Damn.

Anyway,

#1. Stupid pathfinder.
#2. I'm gonna found that city. It will be a GP farm. Woo-hoo.
NEXT!

I settled him in St. Petersburg: Clearly this was a game-breaking decision and there's no possible way I could lose now and I am absolutely glorious and I am the best person ever and I will be elected World Dictator next Tuesday.

Ahem. Sorry. So what happens next in our Russian Runup?

Well gee, I wonder how that got there :D

Yes, it may well have been a stupid decision. Yes, it may have been better spent on military. But it's big and shiny! And big and shiny things make me happy. :D. Plus, with all the Scientists St. Petersburg, Rostov (double-pig-fish), and Berlin are giving me, this will be a good investment. In the long term. Hopefully.

Well, that's the high point really. All that follows is pretty banal. You can stop reading here, but you'll kill a kitten if you do so.

Cyrus founds a Cytie:

Seriously Cy? What use is there in that pathetic city? Just to cut off my trade routes (actually I OB'd him, but still). Worse, look at Gordium to the east.

But it seems to be paying off for him:

Ouch. Don't worry, it gets better!

ABSOLUTELY NOTHING HAPPENS FOR 200 YEARS. What fun!

Then:

Woohoo! Free religion! What I do with it is another matter. Caesar is militarily mighty, and maybe I could turn someone against him with Confu. We adopt Caste for a turn of Anarchy. I used Slavery... once. On a granary. For 1 pop. Russia is not that great for food.

Turn later, I trade for IW. I can't recall from whom (Hatty. CoL for Poly, something and IW), but it involved CoL.

Arbitrarily, I end the round there.

What did I do this round? Well, I discovered Writing-Maths-CoL-IW-Alphabet and many miscellaneous techs. Which is good. I ran scientists in St. Pete, Hamburg and Berlin, which is also good. I got a GP, which is also good. I founded the excellent Tehran city, which is also good. I founded the Pigs city, which is also good.

And I built the Pyramids.

So here's the Motherland:

Military (3rd behind Cyrus and Caesar):

Moscow:

St. Pete:

Palace building as I want a central capital that can operate both into Siberia and Scandinavia (and Europe )

Julius (eek!):

And finally technologies. We got out of that Cyrus hole and we are 2nd, behind Hatty.

So, thoughts? Criticisms? (I'm proud, myself :king:) Here's the save:

The big shiny Pyramids could definitely pay off... you've got lots of food resources and watered grassland to work with. Regarding your proposed new city in Sweden, I'd prefer 1NW of there myself (lets you work the silver up there, and won't steal the fish from Hamburg).

You should call up Lizzy, and be all "Our close borders spark tensions. Your head would look good on a pole." Then forge a great northern empire.

I've settled the Swedish place (Rostov) in my original location. Perhaps that was a bad move, but I'll place another Swedish city to get the Deer and Silver.

Such mighty empire and only 7 workers and another settler on the way? tststs :-)

Did I understand correctly that AIs on this map script start with warriors only no matter the diff? I could try it :-D

Dont like the cultural pressure around Paris...taking izzy could relieve it a bit ;-)

Sailing would be my priority with so many AIs around for trades...
I am not sure about the Mids...a lot of hammers even with stone, but nice you got them ;-)

edit:
ah and you should soon get some happy sources! furs to the north from moscow come to mind...

I'm going to make more workers. I swear. I will I will I will!

Sailing? I'd prefer to make roads. And I don't need Calendar too much.

well roading can work too... but you will seriously lack worker turns...and you have 8 cities...you need many trading partners :-)

yeah calendar is not priority and I hope i didnt indicate that...

btw why didnt you went the usual Aesth trade bait path? you have marble so Lit next could be good.
i would try get Monarchy out of trades eventually too...it would allow make winery for another happy.

Was too focused on CoL. Since nobody seems to have Aest (my main rival for GL is Hatty) it's a leisurely pace.

I'm playing round 3 tonight and hopefully uploading it too.

Ok, I swallow my pride. How do I put pictures directly in my post, instead of using Imageshack?

why would you not want to use imageshack

Because I still can't work out a way to upload multiple images at once and also upload them to the forum. Plus it's rather tiresome having to browse and Ctrl-V over and over.
