NOTW XXXIX: Impending Retribution Game Thread

I asked for answers, nothing more.

If the person who promoted him was a saboteur he would have known this and has a motive to move his friend into a position of power. If not, there must be a reasonable explanation that he bumped down Izipo in order to promote an "unknown" saboteur.

Did you not read the logs about Chandrasekar's platoon? That traitor led them to slaughter in no small part because he was elected the leader of that platoon and was above suspicion and scrutiny. And here we have everyone voting every item to our leader every day and then throwing a party.

This definitely deserves some consideration. I agree more data is needed.

I promoted him, on request from someone I assumed was innocent. rookie mistake sorry yal.

Well, I' glad to see one of the saboteur's caught, however the damage to the bridge, and especially the deck is very concerning.

Methos, sir, take the crate. As for the assault rifle, I think I'll abstain on giving anyone that. I don't want Methos to have all the items, it is unwise to have all our eggs in one basket. If Ekolite can tell me more about his weapons store, from which he believes the rifle was stolen, I might be interested in letting him have it. God Emperor may also contact me if he wishes about the rifle.

Who requested that you promote TheForestAuto, we should be looking at this person as a possible execution.

Captain Methos should decide how to distribute this crate as well. Ekolite, can anyone corroborate that the rifle was stolen from storage facilities that you manage? Darth Caesar, you've been awfully noncommittal, perhaps some time in the brig will sharpen your tongue.

Duke Blackstone, so you assumed someone was innocent and promoted a saboteur. But then you're not willing to tell us who this person you hint that tricked you was. Why?

Before Night One started, Romanic told me that he started off with a firearm, so when was he supposed to have stolen it?

(OOC: Night Zero, as part of his opening role PM. Eko's information does match up, as little as that has to do with whether he should get the rifle.)

Recruit Paul remembers a vague story from long ago...

"Sir, there's some other tales that stick out to me when you say nobody should ever be above scrutiny. The myth of 'Backwards Logic gets elected leader for the length of the whole expedition while he is also Traitor in Chief and manages to avoid scrutiny for a long long time until it is too late...'

Another world, another tale of course. Look it up - it's designated NOTW XXIX. Unfortunately other records on that are not quite clear but it might serve as a reminder..."

"Also, with regard to this afternoon's vote I wonder what PO Nictel has really been up to. There is no reason whatsoever why he shouldn't have repaired if he could, which makes me think he might have been lying. There's also multiple people killed and injured when he was out of the brig. It could be an obvious set up but it wouldn't hurt having him spend another night in the brig."

End Morning Phase Three, Start Midday Phase Three

Journal Entry Number Eight. 13:00 shipboard time. Ten Days to Port.

Controversy filled the air for most of the morning, ranging from the dubious promotion of TheForestAuro to the prospect of the coming party. Dialogue was starting to get a little heated at this point, which is probably a good thing. Who knows if anything would come of it, but at least discussion could continue.

The first order of business involved Winston Hughes donning one of his most exquisite dresses and parading around the Galley at lunch time to show it off. Drawing attention to his bare shoulder, sailors could see the presence of a few new stripes signifying a promotion had just happened. Upon closer inspection, the cross-dresser had been promoted to Lieutenant Commander, Love's old position aboard the ship.

The Crate vote was once again predictable with Methos earning the vast majority of the votes. After publicly saying what the previous crate held, I suppose the sailors thought 'why not' and decided voting the next one to him wasn't such a bad idea after all.

The Assault Rifle vote was not as clear cut. While Methos also received votes for it, newly promoted God Emperor was in the lead with Ekolite not far behind, claiming the rifle had been stolen from the ship's inventory. The rest of the day would be needed to decide who would earn ownership of the weapon.

Finally, the execution vote had drawn the least amount of activity but not for a lack of leads. Nictel, leading the vote yet again, was under pressure from supposedly dodging repair responsibilities. As of lunch, he had not made an appearance to defend himself from these claims.

Well, I'm going to go put on my dress uniform for the coming party, assuming of course the rearranged Galley is not a ruse. Hopefully for a few moments we'll all be able to enjoy ourselves and forget just what a terrible situation we're all in right now. Here's hoping I'll get so hammered I won't be able to remember what happened!

Oh crap, I forgot I was injured! {fos: Duke Blackstone} anyway then.

Methos for the first thing.
Methos for the second thing.

classical hero for the brig thing.

'apparently someone doesn't wish me to have a rifle.. at least I coun't more than two votes on myself'

"Captain Methos I'm disappointed these crates may not have all the supplies we want but you can have this one too. If only they had for me the latest copy of Baked Goods and Headgear, IEEE Transactions on."

But seriously I think that wrench you mentioned sounds like it could be used by one of our repairmen who've said publicly they are needing tools - maybe Autolycus or classical_hero if I recall what was said the other day? I must concur with this rifle granting extra votes, Romanichine would explain part of the pattern the past couple of days, and I don't know who to trust it to other than the Captain, Methos as well.

As far as I can tell there's as good a lead as any for Nictel being a Rogue assassin and I think that case merits following up.

((GM Note: Fixing vote count now, sorry God Emperor))

Well, let me be the first to congratulate Winston Hughes to his new position. How better to celebrate than a few shots in the air from an assault rifle? Maybe you'll even get some seagulls!

The crate can go to Methos again, although we'll need to watch closely to make sure that we are not placing too much trust in one place.

As for Nictel - he is no killer, at least not before last night. That doesn't absolve him of being a saboteur though. He did seem lost however, and was trying to find a way into the bridge yesterday. Perhaps he was trying to fix it and didn't have access? That is a question better answered by my superiors (or Nictel himself), for I have no knowledge in this arena but someone who has access may want to let him in if he indeed can fix things there.

Well, ain't that funny... First time I get demoted and not knowing why.
Still, I see my former rank is still vacant, maybe it's wishful thinking, but why not fill it with experience instead of giving away promotions to saboteurs?

Without disrespect, sir, why not leaving the handling of the crates to your subordinates ? I'm sure they will report to you in a timely fashion and let you handle the important stuff.
Perhaps Commander DiamondEye can be trusted with such a task ?
And why not let Ekolite have his rifle back ?

Now, about the important stuff... I'd rather think about it more in depth. I don't want to be second-guessed about it later.

Nictel, are you tryin' to help this ship, or ain't you? You just forgot to repair things last night? Now I'm sure you'll say you were framed, and ain't that special, but if that's the case you walked right into it, an' how could the killers know that you would? I ain't sure you should live, to be honest. If you do, you will make a verifiable repair every night we have left, until you die or the ship returns to port. D'you understand that, sweetie?

Sure hun. Except for the fact that you said I repair things so I'll probably end up with three bullets in me soon.

The commander returns with a glass in one hand, an amber-coloured drink swirling in it.

"Good to see so many men speaking up. Your question is legitimate - I merely pondered if sabotaging the ship to the point of uselesness is really a means to the end which can be described as 'keeping nuclear weapons out of the hands of infiltrators'. It is not a question of dealing with the infiltrators themselves, it's a question of limiting damage. On a grand scale, which may cost each and everyone of us our lives. But compared to the damage that the weapons on the Retribution can do, I have to admit that the casualties could be defended."

"It is, however, mere speculation, something I think we should all practice a bit as long as we are not in the know. There may be other reasons yet undisclosed to us," the commander ends and takes a gulp out of his glass, sinking it slowly while looking to see if his answer has been interpret correctly this time.

"No-one's sinking the Retribution! I'd like to congratulate all the repair crew we have onboard, you're doing great. We should have the other saboteurs rounded up in no time! And it's about last call, this deck's filled with more holes than a swiss cheese in heavy gunfire..."

I believe the Nictel case also seems promising but just to bring up some other options I'd like to put some suspicion on Diamondeye. Commander, at first you seemed unsure about whether the saboteurs were really our enemies in the grand scheme of things, but now you have done a complete 180. You mentioned how we shouldn't be so sure of things until we know better, but now there is no doubt in your mind that the Saboteurs are enemies. What caused this about face?
