NOTW XXXIX: Impending Retribution Game Thread

Resplendent in medals and other military finery, Lieutenant Commander Hughes stood atop the crate, and looked down on his underlings with a mix of pride and motherly affection.

I'm so emotioned... Thank you all so much for giving me this richly deserved promotion. I cannot tell you how honoured I feel that you finally decided to do the right thing and elect me as your better. I need to thank my agent and my costume designer and my parents and God and everybody in the Navy for making this very special day a reality at last...

Of course, I will require the proper accoutrements of my exalted position. For starters, I'll need you all to vote me that Assault Rifle, so I can put an end to the dreaded seagull menace once and for all. I'll also be needing this crate to stand on, and the head of Petty Officer Rhawn on a spike to underline my authority.

That will be all. For now.

I believe the Nictel case also seems promising but just to bring up some other options I'd like to put some suspicion on Diamondeye. Commander, at first you seemed unsure about whether the saboteurs were really our enemies in the grand scheme of things, but now you have done a complete 180. You mentioned how we shouldn't be so sure of things until we know better, but now there is no doubt in your mind that the Saboteurs are enemies. What caused this about face?

I think this warrants closer inspection. I also would like to know why Commander Diamondeye is so Wishy-washy. It is not an admirable attribute in a Commander.

Diamondeye also gets my vote for making an pro-saboteur argument and promoting that greedy chumscrubbing maggot to a senior officer position.

"I admit, I had my doubts the first couple of days... About Whitover brutally murdering those two men, and the prospects of demolitioning the weapons of the Retribution to prevent them from falling into the wrong hands... But the continuous cavalcades at night has convinced me that these rogues and saboteurs are not acting in any agenda that I can support. The saboteurs have nearly done us all in, and the rogues have not seized killing. That's what turned my head. Don't tell me I'm the only one."

"That's all very good, Saboteur Sprig. Would you care to enlighten me as to why the only item in your possession is an explosive charge? That seems more than a little suspicious to me. Friends of yours whom I trust have convinced me to keep back this information, but I think it's time I went public with it. You should not be the one to point fingers."

Hmm... may I have the saboteur sprig's body after we shoot him in the head?

*the wise 'Ol Skippy heard the noices outside on Deck , so he wen't to have a look.. after catching what it was all about, he quickly raised his voice*

' Look at you bunch of kids.. fighting over toys.. The Commander D.E is young yes, but I have faith in this lad.. I would like not to see any more votes on him. Sprig on the other hand.. well I don't even remember last time he fetched me something to drink... In the old days we gave these people to the sharks, but you may deal with him as you wish , my dear crew '

Gentlemen, I find it highly unlikely the Commander is a saboteur. If Sprig really does have demolition charges, he is a much more dangerous threat. However, if we remove Sprig, and find him innocent, with no charges in his possession.. Well, we know where to look next, dont we?

Dear commander - Do you not know my role? I am the Explosive Ordinance Disposal technician.
It is my job to go running towards explosions when other are running away.

Where do you think I got the explosive charge from? Oh yes, that would be night zero after you had planted it in the electrical room. I had my suspicious about you Commander and it seems I was right. I thought a little prompting would get you to expose yourself as a saboteur scum. No wonder you seemed so sympathetic to them. You are one!

Let me make it very clear to everyone that Captain Methos has known from the start that I had an explosive device. I revealed to him the very first day about my role pm and my ability to search for explosives. Every night, I scan the compartments I have access to, for explosives and if found, I disarm them. I had also revealed to Renata my ability.

The explosive charge is the C4 that the saboteur use. It is I who told the captain about how much damage it does. And again, I who explained how it takes a whole game cycle before it detonates.

Now we see the end of a curious little story. Renata told me that I had been scanned for items. Obviously, the scan came up with exactly what I told them. Now this is where things got very curious. Renata told me about how the person who scanned me was positively itching to have me killed. A sign of a disparate person who put two and two together to figure out that it was I who disabled the explosive device and saved the electrical room from being completely destroyed.

No wonder he was agitated. And now at the slightest provocation, he has leapt from his leash and revealed himself to us as the traitorous saboteur with the quick condemnation of the one whose ability is an exact counter to one of their abilities.

Before you are all quick to condemn me, I suggest you take the time to reflect all the work I have put in to expose the Saboteurs. I also would like you to wait before Renata and Methos have their input.

I am happy to accept death if that is their will, but I believe that they too have doubt about Commander Diamondeye.

Isn't that called an OMGUS vote?

Sir... are you antagonizing the late Captain and sympathizing with the rogues he killed? Are we not trying to do the same here? We are trying find and kill saboteurs and rogues, after all.

In other news, Sprig's explanation seems plausible, but yours does not, sir. You seemed to be trying to raise support for the saboteurs earlier on, but when this position was questioned, you quickly did an about face concerning the saboteurs.

Also, Commander Diamondeye, sir? If the explosives in Sprig's possession are reason to incarcerate him, why did you only bring it up once he accused you?

Ah, zat explains much.

sprig

Well, Petty Officer sprig, I actually think Diamondeye is more likely a Rogue than a saboteur, I admit I've had my suspicions for a while, but that's all I need to hear to want to bring his actions and motivations to light right now as well. I cannot fathom why he would bring about an attack on you and put lives and important work at risk if Innocent, and it's certainly not the first time he's tried it.

Isn't that called an OMGUS vote?

Yes it is. Also see how quickly the bandwagon formed and notice who participated. Add that to reason 3 against Diamondeye and Sprig's reasoning a 4, 5 and 6.

You dare to neglect my points, Petty Officer!

Pardon me sir. You should rightfully be given credit for #6.

This seems to me to be the classic distraction trick. You feel very threatened Diamondeye, so you had to resort to what you thought would direct the most attention away from you. What made you think Sprig should be revealed after others had approved of him? My hunch is that you are a rogue, but I hope that we will soon get to find out for ourselves.

Oh yeah Winston can have the crate.

I think this is all rather interesting, and that Diamondeye should at least spend some time in the Brig, if not worse.
