I heard this story recently, and thought some of you would like to weigh in.
For approving a therapeutic abortion at her hospital, a Catholic nun has been excommunicated. Yet no priests have been similarly disciplined for child abuse. Comments?
Does the church really view an early-term abortion to save a mother's life as a greater sin than raping children? And if so, isn't this something that ought to be clarified by now?
What is there even to discuss after this?Well, yes. In the eyes of the church, it doesn't matter whether or not it's saving the mother's life; it's the murder of a human being. Murder is a greater sin than rape. This has already been clarified.

Are you sure that the dad is Catholic? The comparison with the priest pedo scandal is to me, best exemplified by the case of the Brazilian 9 yr old who had the abortion. The girl, the mom, and the doctors were all excommunicated, but the dad who raped her, nopers.
Getting an abortion to save your life = excommunication
Being in any way involved in helping a child save her life = excommunication
Raping a 9 yr old girl = finger wagging
It's really cool how the Bible makes repeated mention of how disgusting homosexuality is, but uh... kinda forgot to mention pedophilia at all.
Do all murderers get excommunicated by the Catholic Church?
Assaulting the Clergy is automatic excommunication, so murdering them would be as well. Not Latae sententiae, no. Maybe if they murdered clergy...

Most of the posters here will say "rape is worse than medical procedure", Catholics will respond "murder is worse than rape", and then there'll be an argument over what constitutes a human life that will boil down to people using different sources for their definitions.
There doesn't seem to be any actual debate to be had.
