Observations from Potato’s video.

45 age progress was added from legacy path, which means 30 age progress came from elsewhere. Maybe narrative events?
Probably from the other source we heard that can reduce age size: Someone researching future civic/future tech. Each time one of those is researched, reduces age length by 10, iirc. I'm guessing when they said back then the age minimum was 150, they probably meant legacies can only reduce it up to 150 turns (on standard speed), but you add the future civics/tech and it can, and generally will, reduce it more.

I can see the point from what I remember what they said, this could be a good tactic for the player, like lets say try to make the age ends faster because they're struggling against the crisis. But I still wish it also capped at 150 and didn't reduce that much, especially when it sees like the AI will also do those so not something the player can control. At least i'm glad there is the age speed reduction that seems like it reduces the effect those things have in the total age progression.

Albeit I wish they also had an option that either disable that effect for future tech/civics or maybe makes them share the hard cap with other reduction effects. An age total of 150 to 200 in standard seems fine for me and I find a good idea to make it goes lower if the players are doing to well (legacies), but reducing too much seems bad to me.

Or turn progression itself?
That's already accounted for, 1 point per turn.

To clarify 125 for turns + 45 from age progression = 170, leaving 30 unacccounted for:
His Antiquity Age playthrough is indeed on Standard speed, but the Age ended in Turn 125.

Just a couple things I’d like to point out.

-Some city states give unique units.
-The AI may declare war on you immediately if you give them a diplomatic action they don’t like.
-The AI is capable of conquering each other, Lafayette was destroyed by Amina.
-Building a large army is not optional, it seems like the strategy of building a few archers like in 5 and 6 isn’t going to cut it anymore.
Who's Potato?

Just to post the source about future tech/civic progressing the age from the Exploration Stream:
Carl: Future civic, is has a couple of things available on it, but most notably of which is it adds age progress. So this is a way for you to accelerate through the age a little bit faster and get to the end of that crisis if it's if it's really bothering you and you're advanced enough in either Tech or Civics. Because future tech also does the same.

Ed: Also an interesting tactic in a multiplayer game when you can pull a lever to control when the game's going to end and sort of maybe lock in your lead. That's a cool thing to be able to do in a multiplayer game as well.
You can also see it from the future civic tolltip around this same point of the video where it says "+10 Age Progress".

Future tech/civic?

Has someone seen any (human) player even get very close to end of tech tree so that future tech would even have been possible?
I've seen a few get to the end of the civics tree, but I don't think I've seen anyone get to the end of the tech tree, or even build any tier 3 units or late Age buildings.

If you want to get there and make use of the end, you can‘t spend much research time on masteries as it seems. But without masteries, you are missing out on codices, i.e. science legacy progress.

I don‘t think the bonuses from masteries stay around for the next age. Is that correct?

I am sure it is possible?

The culture bomb early game meta is real -- 100% the optimal opening moves will be to place early buildings on the tiles you improved first to complete more culture bombs faster to reach higher value tiles.
That's probably something the devs will fix sooner rather than later (the most simple fix would be that culture bombs only trigger when you place an improvement from growth, and not relocation), so better abuse it while it's there :D
