Oh, the weather outside is...

We had a severe thunderstorm last night with wind gusts to 78 mph (125 kph). It knocked out power to my apartment for 20 hours. About 1/3 of the city of Norman lost power. It was some of the most extreme wind I've ever seen, but the wind gusts at my apartment didn't look like they hit hurricane force. The 78 mph reading happened in a different part of town where there were trees down, whereas my part of town just had some smaller branches down. Some fences were also down. Here is a picture of some power lines that may have been the cause of the outage.

Glad you are OK.

Got 2 inches of rain in a day from Tropical Storm Fay on Friday (I believe that is the first time on record that a tropical storm has made landfall so far north in July).

We had a severe thunderstorm last night with wind gusts to 78 mph (125 kph).

The tropical storm didn't give us anything close to this! We had like 40mph (65kph) gusts I think.

Four days with evening showers!! Our monsoons have arrived. If we can get 3 inches of rain in the next couple of weeks, it will be fantastic. :)

14:30. Rain. I thought this might clear out the multitude, yelling, screaming, and laughing right outside my living room balcony. No suck luck.

Clear skies, 27 degrees Celsius. Should be over 30 tomorrow. Funny. We had extraordinarily hot summers for the last decade, with 30+ being common. Now we got a good, not extremely hot nor dry summer, and people are already complaining about coming heat wave.

In any case, it's a beautiful weather for long walks. My dog certainly agrees. Though it would be good to enjoy the scenery with him instead of his forced marches...15 kilometers through forest paths in 3 hours with him.

And just where is that sunny 27 Celsius place in our pandemic world?

Oh, somewhere in Europe. Temps eventually went to 30 for a while yesterday, but it was still quite bearable.

Here in Syracuse NY we've now broken the record for the number of consecutive days with greater than 80F weather (old record was 43), and we're chasing the hottest month on record right now.

In the very south of NL, in Maastricht, we had the hottest day ever at 34.1 C
The local vineyard farmers are excited mentioning that they have now the same climate as the Bourgogne in the 70ies with enough sun, rain early and dry later in the summer.

For tonight we are warned that a heat burst could happen.

Never experienced that. It would mean that you get a sudden temperature increase of a couple of C.

Finally some sun again here in southern Norway (20-26 °C). July was miserable. Plain and simple.

Learn to love the heat. It is in your future. :D

I miss the 'north blocking' of June. Dry and sunny for weeks while southern Europe had abysmal weather.

For the first time since records began in 1951, no typhoons have been recorded here in July by the Japan Meteorological Agency.

The average year produces 3.6 in July.

edit: also there was an earthquake about an hour ago that was maybe 50 miles/80 km from here. I felt something, but I thought it could have been someone just slamming a door really hard or dropping a heavy object.
