Paper or Plastic?

In a store's counter, what do you choose?

You know, the first time I was asked that, I thought they were asking if I wanted to pay with cash or a credit card. I don't know who got more confused, me or the cashier.

Anyway, many places anymore don't give me a choices, only having plastic bags. Unfortunate, since if I get a lot of groceries I would much prefer paper bags.

Paper if I left my fabric bag at home. Plastic bags are the devil.

If I have an option, I'll always take paper. I save bags, and I find more uses for paper than plastic.

Paper if given the choice. Back in the Cola Wars of '85, we were only equipped with paper sacks to fend off the hordes. Plastic bags were introduced shortly thereafter and are associated in my mind with new-fangled "progress" for the weak.

When I worked for the California version of Safeway, we would default to plastic but paper was available if you asked.

I have absolutely no proof, but a greenpeace guy the came over to my place (for propaganda) told me that paper bags were creating a lot more pollution then plastic bag, if we take everything into account. (energy required in production, trees needed, the fact that less then 25% of recycled paper is really recycled...) So now I choose plastic, and use them as lunch bag during the week.
