USCA and
Confederation continue to hit stumbling blocks as, this time, it was the Confederation that ignored the USCA’s diplomatic overture.
The
Ottoman Empire’s recently established parliament announced a council consisting of chosen regional representatives and members of the nobility would rule the country until the first elections are held in 1854. The fight over the succession to the sultanate hasn’t reached a satisfactory conclusion for any party as of yet, and the parliament is expected to retain many powers of government even once a sultan is crowned.
In the Odisha,
Madhusudan Das announced a retirement from politics after serving three terms in office. The Elections of 1851 were fierce, with Finance Minister Subroto Bagchi’s United India Party edging out over War Secretary Sadhu Meher’s Nationalist Party. The military’s acceptance of the UIP’s victory over the Nationalist Party has alleviated fears of a post-Das military junta for now.
The most alarming news comes from
Ethiopia has the financial bottom of the country falls out. Shortages of necessary resources are plaguing that country’s industrial base, and rising unemployment and prices are already putting a strain on popular support for the government.
