Pinochet Common Misconceptions

As Chilean jets strafed La Moneda presidential palace Sept. 11, 1973, Allende shot himself with a gold-plated submachine gun given to him by Castro.
Killing himself before the enemy can find him makes him sound like a bit of a Nazi, doesn't it?

I must also take issue with this:
Allende (…) trampled the rule of law so badly
The omitted part about the ruined economy has been addressed to the point of discrediting all your currently held arguments, but it has to be considered at least cheeky to have you complain about breaking the rule of law, simultaneously having ‘by law or by strength’ as your motto.

What a pity he didn't appoint himself a senator for life then.

1988 - General Pinochet's government held a referendum if there should be democratic elections. The country voted yes.
1989-90 - Christian Democrat Patricio Aylwin wins the presidential election. General Pinochet peacefully transfers power to the new government and remains commander-in-chief of the army.

When General retired he became a senator-for-life in accordance with the Constitution.

This is quite ideological thing. I would totally love to have Pinochet in my country at 1945. But not after fall of iron curtain. Some countries got right wing dictator and it didnt turn well.

Where are you from, if you don't mind?

If his opening gambit is going to be "Fascists: Great or Super-Great?", you should temper your expectations.

Aw, let him defend his title of 'moderate spokesman for the alt-right' from BvBPL's usurpation.

Pinochet murdered thousands
...tortured tens of thousands,
..and stole millions of dollars from the treasury.

Nuff said. .

That would confirm my suspicions that a branch of the US Government has been taken over by Marxists.

Like Hitler in his bunker. The coward didn't want to face trial.
You mean like Pinochet when he was indicted by crines against humanity by spanish judge Baltasar Garzón and hid in England claiming he was very ill. That was very brave. At least when he returned to Chile found that things had changed and the senador vitalicio trick was not working so well anymore.

Prague, Czech Republic

The communist coup of Czechoslovakia was in 1948.

Prague is beautiful you are fortunate to live in such a place.

For those who may not know. The way communist subversion works, as REDY probably knows having them trample the rule of law in Czechoslovakia as well, is the communists and their subversives actively instigate civil unrest and violence until the society can no longer function. Their goal is civil war/communist coup, or soviet/communist invasion where the communists take control of all branches of government and all means of production. Communist Totalitarianism.

The only way this can be avoided during late stage subversion is if your countrymen are fortunate enough to have a savior like General Pinochet, which in Czechoslovakia's case probably would have been needed in 1945, as REDY said. Earlier on communist revolution can be avoided by denying civil rights of subversive groups until the country is once again stabilized and the communist threat is removed.

After Allende was elected in my country suddenly everything was chaos and every decision the government would make only made things worse. The communists were actively working against the people.

Indictments by foreign communist fetishists are nothing to be concerned with.

Baltasar Garzón - "In 1993, he asked for an extended leave of absence as a judge and went into politics, running for the Congress of Deputies (the lower house of parliament) as an independent candidate on the party list of the then ruling party Partido Socialista Obrero Español (PSOE)."

If you are implying PSOE is communist your knowledge of Spanish politics is null at most.

And btw Pinochet was very concerned along the couple of years he was arrested in London pretending cowardly to be sick in order to not being extradited to Spain (which was finally not possible thanks to the intervention in extremis of mammy Thatcher and daddy Bush), with all his dirty money in his dirty bank accounts in Switzerland blocked.

At least, thanks to Garzon work, when the returned to Chile his parliamentary immunity was lifted and was legally persecutted until his death five years later. Must have been most humilliating for such prepotent pig. Kudos to Chile for that. :)

lol @ op pretending that pinochet didnt commit mass killings and torture when his maga chud friends admire pinochet because of his crimes against humanity. i mean, why else do they constantly threaten to give helicopter rides to women who argue against them on twitter

Unfortunately this kind of right-wing nationalist crap is on the rise everywhere.

I clearly stated that Baltasar Garzón is a well known communist fetishists and activist judge. This is well known throughout his entire career.

I couldn't care less how you wish to categorize the Spanish Socialist Worker's Party, which he was a candidate for.

I know you pretend you dont care and such but FYI PSOE and Garzon are Center-left at most. We have a true communist party in Spain who would consider PSOE and Garzon almost rightists. Also it does not matter if he is rightist, leftist or is at the left of Marx and Engels. His legal work has been pretty influential in the field of human rights defense and the world is not going to be a so nice place for criminals like Pinochet anymore.

Like all wanna-be Communist Westerners Garzón has no respect for the law with his countless unprecedented and highly questionable rulings. He is a disgrace to the judiciary.

Are there any English-language sources that discuss left-wing violence in Chile before and during Allende's presidency? I'd like to find out how widespread this was. If you don't know of any, you can link to Spanish-language sources too and some combination of Google Translate and hazy recollections of high-school Spanish might tell me something.

I'm not sure if you missed this post among all the angrier ones, but I'd genuinely like to know more about left-wing extremist violence in Chile in the 1960s and 1970s. My biases are generally center-left, but I'll read literally any viewpoint.

Overall my impression is that the rate of left-wing terrorist/guerrilla activity in Chile was far lower than in Argentina and Uruguay at the same time, and that human rights abuses by Allende and his supporters were rare compared to those under Pinochet (although there must have been some, given what happened to your family). If this impression is wrong, or even if it is right, I'd like to see some sources that discuss it.

Do you have any links, or know of any books, or any other source which we might be able to read? Linking to sources tends to make this sort of debate more productive and less aggressive. A few people might even learn something. ;)
