Post-pandemic changes

Not when You're You talking about Harry Mudd
Discussions of Harry Mudd take place in the All Things Star Trek thread in A&E. When people are a bit more sober, kthxbai.

If anyone wants to talk about the Picard series, we're doing that, too. Spoiler codes are in effect.

Optimistically the hyper individualistic countries relearn something they knew after the last great collapse, all that individualism is dog **** in the modern industrial and information economies and social contracts need to be stronger.

acknowledged ! See You there ! ;) I wont cause any more trouble here Miss

"Beam me up Scotty there is no life on this planet !"
"Mandela effect" quote of Cpt, Kirk

.... I just watched all of the OS and truly it is not there !

Trump and republicans embrace socialism with relief packages and prove it can be paid for with quantitative easing. Then promptly deny what the aid was and go back to pretending the country's broke and can only find money for bombs.

Relief packages in crisis are not really Socialism. Ayn Rand, David Koch, or Ron Paul might say they are, but most sober-minded people with a clear view of things wouldn't. Besides, the three aforementioned individuals would have no problems with millions of Americans dying in a huge crisis to maintain the "purity" of minimal government - there'd be a definite lack of humanity there, not calling out "Socialism."

They threw in a "Beam me up, Scotty," in "Star Trek IV: the Voyage Home," (though not the part about no life here), as a cookie to the fans, because of the meme and the lack of the exact quote in the Original Series. William Shatner even briefly gets a coy look on his face right before saying it, and has an audibly satisfied tone to his voice when he says the line.

I’m wondering whether visa-free travel between countries will become a thing of the past, and if we’re headed towards more the way it used to be except with more thorough health inspections.

Japan has already cancelled visa-free travel from Europe starting today until April 30th, I think? I know some EU countries have put borders back in place due to the emergency.

If this gets worse, I think more people will start to accept a little more bureaucratic rigamarole provided countries can better get ahold of these things before they spiral out of control.

Or we’ll all just be complacent again after a year’s time and forget the whole thing.

Visa free travel and mass tourism goneburger for forseeable future.

Even if legal money will be tight.

If visa free travel gets the axe business will demand such easy access to visas that there won't be any effective medical screening anyway. The economic consequences are going to be so bad and last so long that people are mostly going to forget there was a health issue at the root of it. They'll say "oh, yeah, started with the pandemic," but the focus of repairs is going to be the economy, not health care.

Handshake might go out of fashion. I was greeted by a fist bump couple times yesterday, lol.

I think people will see capitalism working perfectly in a crisis. People being exhausted and frightened enough to be treated as garbage and payed less. Profit!

Almost all countries in the world are capitalistic

What this crisis will reveal is how hollowed out our state has become, under successive GOP governments, as well as the failure of democrats to repair and stem the systemic rot ushered in by the Republicans.

Nope but Washington Post had article last year. 75% rank and file support Trump, 95% of the officers.

Far left We'll reduce the military and close down the military industrial complex.

Hmmn if push comes to shove who will they support?
I was asking specifically about the "baby killers" part. Do you believe that contemporary enlistees are still upset about the heated political discourse of fifty years past? That the act of joining the military either strongly selects for, or generates in enlistees, a deep-seated resentment about things that somebody's grandpa said to somebody else's grandpa during the Nixon administration?

It would just be such a weird and specific grievance to invoke, I'm trying to figure out why you think this would be something that anyone in the military would be motivated by.

States are gonna own a lot more stuff

I think that revealed long ago to anyone with a brain, there's a certain sense of denial. That said, there's nothing that'll stop the denial from returning after the whole mess is over. The most crippling blame will likely be put elsewhere (like China would be an easy target to the drooling masses who drink up scapegoating techniques).

Its been a while since you've added anything I could like! lol

Yes I see this as a logical scapegoat for the elite classes to try to make hay out of.
