Preview Thread: TNESII - Et In Arcadia Ego

One dynasty which was not affected much except in its downfall by the POD, whose legacy the current Chinese national entity claims.

Yeah this discussion is more awesomer in WWW.

Also, ND, I was joking about the syntax. It's like you said 'trained by the Belgium'. :p

Adrogans, I don't like ASSIGNING people things. Wait until the stats are done and then pick something you think is promising. If not, Denmark.

Shadowbound, conscription is one of the things I'm unsatisfied with and considering changing. Suggestions welcome.

hm, do you plan to use UU's or is military fully customizeable?

uh and ETA for stats? :p

Flanders, the Flanders, it's all the same. :p Just as long as my armies are trained, we're cool with them.

'Twas a joke.

But, seriously, about recruitment in general, I have some ideas from my half-finished NES concepts. Confidence and population determine the maximum number of troops you can recruit. If you want more, you need to introduce conscription, which only bases it off population, but at a cost to morale/quality/whatever in your forces.

Also, me no likey UUs in this sort of NES.

Same, I prefer being able to customize my military to my personal needs although that will be quite taxing on the mod when everyone does it.
We were made for one another.

I am also against UU's in this time era but we should not eliminate the possibility of creating Super Ships or some land based super weapon.

I.E Bismarck and Big Berta for Germany. (Latter was an artillery gun on rails that could supposedly shoot 5 miles far.)

But if this was done, or allowed, it would be very costly for the empire to build and at best you would only see them once or twice during a war or in the Nation's life.

For example, going from the stat example you have on the first page of the Holy Roman Empire...

They would have to pay triple what a normal ship of that design would cost. If a Battleship costs 4 ep, then the country would have to pay 12 ep to build it, plus it would also take a toll on their recruitment efforts, as a ship that size and power is costly to upkeep.

Perhaps a separate upkeep section just for this ship so people can see just how much money is being spent on keeping such a ship on duty.

Just an idea, I do not care one way or the other how this goes.

I believe it would be kind of cool to include this. Having a sort of legendary ship or regiment on your side could definently improve morale and strike fear into the enemy. And if it gets blown up or whatever, then you are out a ton of EPs and your morale takes a hit. :p

Edit: But still, I don't think UUs are a good idea. And only the strongest nations should be able to build "super-ships" and other stuff like them. It might just be simpler to exclude them and stick with regular units.

Double Edit: And Dachs brings up a good point. Maybe later we can tackle this issue, but for now let's just be concerned with getting to that level of technology.

This is a technological 1840s-1850s equivalent, not a 1900 equivalent. We're talking percussion cap muskets and muzzle-loading artillery, here, not the big Krupp siege guns.

True, but we could still build a powerful ship of the line... I believe I read somewhere that an empire built such a ship... though I cannot remember who, or whether it was an unreliable source...

Maybe you're talking about the Vasa? It didn't get very far. :p

Thanks but no thanks. Technological research is all fine and good, but super-weapons are typically overrated.

To a certain extent (respect my sanity please) armies are fully customizable. Stats will be done when they're done. I'm in the city atm, but after I get back work will go faster. No UU's, though every nation can very easily invest in a smaller, elite corps of troops if they choose to make that investment.

Btw, bonus points to whoever tagged this "latin". :p

Its actually quite a nice ship, and apparently the first thing tourists see in Stockholm (I would have thought a national history museum or similar, but this met blank stares from my g/f and friends :|)

Oh yeah, it's huge and pretty awesome. Still not very useful for war purposes, in real life or NESing. ;)
