Random Rants #63: These Rants Don't Run

Then he'll either sober up by the time of the interview or will suffer from hangover, which won't help.

I guess it's best to concentrate at the interviewee as much as possible, as if you were talking with no camera at all. As a teacher I was very uncomfortable in front of an audience a class, and "pretending" I speak individually to particular students constantly switching from one to another helped me a lot better than drinking.

Sunday we're going to do a live news update instead of an interview but I think an interview might be easier because the focus wouldn't really be on me. The management hasn't really given us anyone to interview so I don't know what to do about that. People in comments sections can be nasty so I'm worried about that. I feel like saying they hired me as an editor not an anchor but I don't want to emphasize things I can't do since I just started working there a month ago.

Ask someone to stand behind the camera and tell the news to that person. Or tell the news to the camera man's forehead. Whichever is easier or available.

You don't have to look straight into the camera, just that direction. At least a friend who's work is shooting a lot of footage told me that once. Perhaps it might be a good idea to ask the camera guy for some advice; there's nothing wrong with having your first time and being nervous about it, and if the guy is experienced he may teach you a trick or two.

"Dead fish" handshakes. Yuck. Seems like it's usually women, but maybe I just notice it more when it's a woman.

That's why handshake is not the proper way with women.

Ugh. Had my first copyright issue with my YouTube channel. Nothing big since I don't monetize my videos. It's just the owner of some of the music in Command and Conquer put a content ID claim on one of my videos. It says the owner isn't blocking any of my content and it doesn't count as a copyright strike against my account, but they are monetizing my video.

So if you watch any of my videos and ads show up, just know that it's not me.

Check out if they actually do own the C&C music or if they're just being copyright trolls.

Eh, it doesn't bother me all that much since I never plan on monetizing my videos and it's not having a negative impact on my account in terms of actual copyright violations.

I suppose that 12 (possible-monetised) views is hardly even worth their time, either.

Now that I think about it, I wouldn't even know where to look to verify if this company is the actual owner or not. Any idea where I could find that info if this does become a real problem in the future?

I have no idea, I'm afraid. Check through YouTube's (probably lacklustre) support pages for what to do in such an instance.

It's a gigantic problem right now actually. Troll bots are flagging everything and throwing their own ads on top of it if the owner refuses to shut it down, with zero ownership of the actual content. If you don't take down your video or give them the monetization, you'll be banned eventually for the copyright violations and such. Even if you prove they're patent trolls, you get no money from them, they get to keep it all, and you can't have your video back if it was removed. And you can't content these things, they're automatic. Not huge problem for some, but for people making their own OC and stuff, it's gamebreaking. Thanks DCMA.

Well, I have done some research on the company that is making the claim and so far they seem legit. They've been around since 1977, they are a digital entertainment company, and there is information out there saying they have made content for video games in the past. Although, I can't seem to find anything that says specifically what games they have made content for.

So my car started having problems about a week ago. A variety of warning lights started coming on, and the windshield wipers stopped working. Finally the brakes failed, which I found out about when I tried to back it up and found that it still backed up with my foot on the brake. I had it towed to a dealership this morning.

A couple of hours later, I got a call. Turns out that mice had gotten in and [copulated] up the electrical system, with extensive damage throughout the wiring. They also literally copulated, making a nice nest full of baby mice to keep the damage going into the next generation.

I used to feel bad for mice when I worked in a bio lab. Now I think we weren't cruel enough.

Fun fact I learned there: did you know that severed mouse heads can still bite for roughly 15 seconds after you decapitate them? Apparently they don't like getting decapitated and still being alive for long enough for the technician to begin cutting into the head to remove the brain.

Rant: Depression is a wonderful way to start spring break.

Don't mind me, just feeling worthless.

Probably just paranoid :3

I'm inviting you to drinks on Friday. And we can get dinner beforehoof if you really want that.

I actually cancelled a bunch of plans with people this week because I have neither the energy nor funds to attend them.

Also it's been almost 40C today and it's still over 30C and I have a headache and can't sleep and I'm super cranky.
I come back to CFC to find this… this… this linguistic monstrosity.

A draaaaaw!
Did your pencil break?

My (stock) CPU cooler came undone and the thermal paste has been exposed/ruined, and my idle temp with an open case is 60C, which jumps to 90-100 real quick whenever I open any game, no matter how lightweight it is. In short, I can't use it except for web browsing. New cooler won't be in until the 16th :(
