Random Rants #63: These Rants Don't Run

Rant: I'm eating too much :(
Sounds like first world problems.

Rant: There is an opening for a new team lead at my work and I'm easily the best candidate for it. I've been on the team the longest and as far as I am aware none of the other qualified candidates want it because it is a big jump in workload with a miserly wage increase. As-is we are down to one lead full time with the departing lead working on half-days which means a huge backlog of quality control checks is building up; meaning that when I do get it there will be a big push to get things cleared out. But I won't know if I get the position for at least a week while HR accomplishes absolutely nothing, it could be longer because my boss decided to go on vacation for a week and the management structure is fond of needlessly intrusive micromanagement hands-on leadership.

In my case, her laughing at my terrible puns and I dunno beyond that.

I have managed to get some laughs out of my terrible puns before, but that doesn't make me any less nervous.

Definitely a first world problem, but rant: I'm spending too much

I've met multiple girls I liked, but never seem to be able to figure out how to convey that message.

Drinking a gallon of booze will give you the confidence to ask her out. If you still don't have a confidence after drinking a gallon of booze, drink more

"convey"

walk me through this. what is "convey" and what follows "convey"

What I mean by that is "I'm awkward and nervous and can't figure out how to tell girls I like them"

When I hear convey, it seems like you mean, one way or another, you want to put the ball in their court. That's just mean.

Wording things in a way I don't intend them is something I do too often.

I am asking what you were intending. I was quite struck by that word.

That makes no sense
You're asking them to expose themselves to be the vulnerable one (aka being exposed to rejection/shame) when it's something you want.

There's a gender difference on this issue as well: It's also just gonna kill your odds. A girl might like you, shy awkwardness and all, but on the condition that you actually do it. But that's an aside.

do you really not understand what the word convey means?

My job wants us to start doing live broadcasts and I'm just not comfortable on camera at all. Drinking is not an option either I don't want to do interviews smelling like alcohol.

Drink then have a shower?

Then he'll either sober up by the time of the interview or will suffer from hangover, which won't help.

I guess it's best to concentrate at the interviewee as much as possible, as if you were talking with no camera at all. As a teacher I was very uncomfortable in front of an audience a class, and "pretending" I speak individually to particular students constantly switching from one to another helped me a lot better than drinking.

"Dead fish" handshakes. Yuck. Seems like it's usually women, but maybe I just notice it more when it's a woman.
